Senator Gounardes Is in Favor of The City of Yes – Silent at November CB 10 Meeting

At the November Community Board 10 Meeting, Senator Gounardes was present, but did not speak.

After the meeting, Gounardes remained silent and didn’t provide the community with any information to make people less concerned.

On Thursday, December 7th, Senator Gounardes put this write-up about The City of Yes in the middle of his newsletter:

Why didn’t Senator Gounardes answer Community Board 10’s concerns about The City of Yes in his newsletter? The CB 10 Committee worked very hard to read and condense the material for the community.

It’s ridiculous that Gounardes wrote, “share your thoughts with me” when he heard from the community at the meeting in November!

Why did Senator Gounardes fail to tell Bay Ridge that he supports the City of Yes plan?

How do we know Gounardes supports the City of Yes? A quick search on Google (seen here) shows:

A) September 2023: New Yorkers who back the plan (See page)

Senator Gounardes said this:

Senator Gounardes has failed to take action for the homeless men and women that have been riding the R train into Bay Ridge for years. Now Gounardes is concerned about the housing crisis? Gounardes never cared about housing when he represented Coney Island.

There are empty apartments all over this NYC. (Info here) There are 4,800 empty NYCHA apartments according to this article in November 2023. There are 13,000 empty rent stabilized apartments. (See here) Why are they vacant? See videos below.

In May 2023, Gounardes wanted 421-A to be reinstated. (Info) He’s so thoughtful of the developers!

421-A cost NYC 1.77 billion each year. (Source) NYC Politicians let 421-A expire in June 2022 because it was a giveaway to developers.

B) In July, Gounardes danced for developers in Downtown Brooklyn. Governor Hochul gave the developers a sweet deal, despite 421a ending. It was like Christmas in July for THOSE developers – yes, only those developers in Gounardes district received this deal. (See info)

On July 18th, Gounardes is quoted in an article about advancing the City of Yes. (See here)

Senator Gounardes was aware of The City of Yes initiative since July 2023. Why didn’t Andrew Gounardes speak with Community Board 10 about to and help answer questions?

C) Senator Gounardes is counting on this new zoning to pass because he is backing legislation by Brian Cunningham that will rezone faith based organizations for housing. Cunningham wrote about it here.

Why did it take five months for Gounardes to mention the City of Yes to Bay Ridge in a newsletter?

Why hasn’t Andrew Gounardes told the Comunity Board and constituents that he has been pushing for the City of Yes Initiative?

By the time residents hear about these initiatives, our politicians have secretly supported them. They aren’t communicating information to the community when they receive the information.

Juice Time NYC Opened on 74th St. in Bay Ridge

We love to see a bright and beautiful new business in Bay Ridge. Juice Time opened at  509 74th Street (it‘s between 5th and 6th Avenues – but closer to 5th Avenue).

The name of the place makes people think that they just serve fresh juice. But this is an ice cream and dessert place. These serve ice cream, shakes, waffles and crepes.

Congratulations to the new owners!

Malliotakis, Tannousis and Parents Get 120+ School Safety Agents for Schools

In November, Mayor Adams cut 250 school safety agents from the NYC Budget.

Congresswoman Malliotakis, Assemblyman Michael Tannousis and parents rallied right away to let the mayor know that safety agents are necessary and shouldn’t be cut. (See video)

Tomorrow, a new group of safety agents will start the 17-week training Friday (yes tomorrow)! (Source) Some websites say 120 agents are in this class, while other sources have 125, 135 & even 140 as the number of people hired. (Here)

Security checked the students and a dozen knives and other weapons were found. (Source) One student said: “I don’t feel safe. I feel like my life is in danger.” (Source)

It’s amazing that some organizations don’t realize that students don’t feel safe and are annoyed that Mayor Adams restored some safety agents.

“Nearly 7,000 weapons were confiscated in public schools last year, an almost 160% increase compared with the 2018-19 school year, according to data shared with reporters this Fall.” (Source)

John Ricottone, Vice President of District 20 Community Education Council was one of the parents who spoke at the Staten Island rally to get the safety agents restored.

Tonight, Ricottone spoke about school safety on the news. (See here) It’s great to see a District 20 parent leading!!

Good News! Some Restaurant Shacks Were Removed From 3rd Avenue

While we were driving on 3rd Avenue tonight, we noticed that a lot of the restaurant shacks were removed. Those streets looked a lot better.

All of the restaurants should remove the outdoor shacks. They were necessary to the help restaurants during Covid. But the pandemic has been over for a long time and the restaurants should have removed them by now.

Many restaurant owners do not live in Bay Ridge. But there is a rat problem in the area and the restaurant owners should remove the shacks so real cleaning can be done.

Will CB 10 Approve These Cannabis Shops?

On Wednesday, December 13th, a Committee will discuss in a Zoom meeting if these four (or five – two of them have the same address) cannabis shops can legally operate.

CB 10 thinks they are volunteers, who are doing the community a service by approving weed shops!

Get ready for more accidents on the street! When Senator Andrew Gounardes voted in favor of legalizing weed, he was aware that the NYPD does not have any way to test if someone is high, like they have a breathalyzer test to check if someone is drunk.

One of these shops n selling illegally since June 2022.
