December 10, 2023Dyker Lights – If There Are Vendors, Then There Needs to Be a Cleanup Crew Too

The lovely people living in Dyker Heights decorate their homes because they love Christmas. They have been doing this for several decades.
Vendors are allowed to sell in this area, so NYC is responsible for cleaning up the area – just like after a parade or another event in NYC!

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, buses come and there are a lot more people purchasing from the vendors. That means in the early hours of Saturday, Sunday and Monday, a sanitation crew is needed on a dozen blocks in Dyker Heights.
If NYC doesn’t have the money for the cleanup, then collect it from each bus, which is currently receiving a free parking spot on 86th Street! Charge $40 for parking to cover the sanitation. The companies can pay online for the parking pass and display it in their window. The bus is loaded with people who have paid to see the lights, so the company doing the tour, can pay for the cleanup.
Each year the community is told that this is being taken care of, but it isn’t. It is the same issue year after year.

Today, we saw several residents write that they were ticketed in front of their home. Ticket the people blocking residents driveways – don’t ticket the residents.
If you have ever been to Dyker Heights, you will see that the people keep their property clean and well-maintained. They don’t need a lot of special services throughout the year because they take care of the neighborhood.
If you are a NY’er and you are writing online that Dyker Heights residents should not put up their lights, please go back under your rock. It’s Christmastime – it’s time for lights, decorations and having a good time! Brooklyn is lucky to have it’s own Christmas town!

December 9, 2023Best Ramen and Pho in Bay Ridge or Nearby
best ramen in bay ridge, best pho in brooklyn 11209
Some nights you just want a bowl of delicious ramen or pho. A bowl of ramen is composed of noodles, pork and chopped veggies. This Japanese soup has a brown broth. Pho is Vietnamese ramen soup made with beef (and anise spice just in case you don’t like anise) and has a clear broth.
These are some of the best places for ramen or pho in Bay Ridge or nearby:
Ramen –
**Naruto Ramen at 276 – 5th Avenue – see here – Everyone LOVES this place, but it’s in Park Slope.
1) Oishi Noodle Bar 9324 – 3rd Avenue. Good ramen. Nice place to go with friends.
2) Tanoshii Ramen 77th Street and 5th Avenue – great ramen and they deliver
3) Japan Village
4) Yun Nan Flavour Garden. 5121 8th Avenue. OMG sooo good!! See menu. Hello beautiful:
5) Sapporo Japanese Restaurant 7812 – 3rd Avenue has good Udon Noodle Soup – udon noodles are thicker and shorter than ramen noodles
6) When I want it delivered fast -> QQ Star Noodle Soups are good – see noodle soup on the menu QQStar is on 9212 – 4th Avenue (it used to be HaHa’s)
7) Hand Pull Noodle and Dumpling House 7201 – 18th Avenue – see here – open late
8) E Noodle Cafe – 8619 5th Avenue – I’m don’t love this place, but many people love it. All of their soups are made with beef broth
In Manhattan:
a) Minca at 536 E 5th Street has amazing ramen
Pho
Pho Hoi 8616 – 4th Avenue – good – Pho Hai made it into the top 10 of Pho places in NYC.
Thanh da -6008 7th Avenue in Sunset Park great Pho
Other places that sell great soup in Bay Ridge

December 9, 2023Best Soup in Bay Ridge
When the weather starts to get chilly like it is now, I LOVE soup. Here are my favorites. If you know of any other places, leave it in the comments – thanks!
My favorite soup in Bay Ridge is lentil soup from Bombay Indian Restaurant – it’s called Mulligatawny Soup. Mulligatawny soup is like a tomato/lentil (but the lentils are cooked into the soup so it’s just a tasty tomato-ish type soup. The lentils can’t be seen). I order that and a slice of bread (it’s called onion kulcha bread) – it’s a big fluffy bread.
Brooklyn Harvest Market 8102 3rd Avenue 718-567-8600 has amazing clam chowder and broccoli and cheese soup, plus three other soups that rotate – quick pickup on the way home – pints and quarts (you have to make it hot)
Nonno’s Pizzeria – Delicious Tortellini Soup
Ginos – Pasta fagiole
Ninos – Stratadella soup
95th Street Diner – 95th and 4th Avenue – **Chicken orzo (chicken and rice) – It was soooo fresh and delicious. Lee swears by their cream of turkey soup. When he had an operation, I stopped in and got their turkey soup before taking an Uber to the hospital (available on Sundays) – they also have French onion soup
- Elia Restaurant 8611 3rd Avenue
- Blue Door Souvlakia Restaurant 8413 3rd Avenue 718-680-8600
- Bay Ridge Diner 8017 5th Avenue
- Something Greek
- Meze 6601 13th Avenue
