Afternoon Fireworks 74th Street in Dyker Heights

Around 3:45 pm today, a group of teenagers set off fireworks on 74th Street between 13th and 14th Avenues. They placed the canister of fireworks in the manhole and aimed it at a framed house. Then they videotaped and cheered as the sparks hit the tree and house.

A good neighbor called the police. Three hours later, the police showed up.

While many people in this area love the booming sound of fireworks, many remember the three members of the Antonelli Family who were killed in a fire started by fireworks on 73rd Street. (Info)

District 47 – The Snake District in Brooklyn

It’s interesting that the Democrats allowed this snake district in Brooklyn. Two communities that have nothing in common joined together.

Years ago, Senator Andrew Gounardes was in the Bay Ridge Democrats and they were all against gerrymandering. When this district was created, they all went silent.

Why did the neck center of the snake choose to omit some streets? Who lives there?

Protest Outside Justin Brannan’s Office – 1/31/24

On Wednesday, January 31st, Bay Ridge residents are having a protest against the homeless shelter planned for 4th Avenue and 65th Street.

Meet outside Councilman Justin Brannan’s office at 8203 -3rd Avenue at noon.

Brannan used to laugh at politicians who hid when the community protested outside their office. Let’s see if he shows up and talks to the protesters.

Several people asked which group is sponsoring this protest. Bay Ridge residents are having the protest. It is not an outside group – it’s people who live here!

Do You Have Any Coats You Don’t Need?

COATS FOR THE COLD is an organization in Bay Ridge that has been collecting coats and giving them to people who need a coat.

This year, their goal is 10,000 coats.

They are 938 coats short of that goal (wow that’s soooo good) and have only 30 days left! Maybe your child has outgrown a jacket?

Can you help Bay Ridge? Check your closet and see if you have a coat to donate. If you do, drop it off at Brooklyn Brew Cafe at 310 – 79th Street or contact them for a pickup:
