Protest at Councilman Brannan’s Office Today – Brannan’s Staffer Tried to Shame Protesters

Residents saw Councilman Brannan talking to the police outside the office up until fifteen minutes before the protest. Then Councilman Brannan disappeared.

Several Bay Ridge residents sent me pictures of a man photographing them at the protest. I recognized Justin Brannan’s staffer from Community Board 10 meetings.

The staffer is a community liaison. How can you be a community liason if you don’t understand people have the right to protest? Community Board 10 should not allow him to act as a liason because this is inappropriate.

The staffer returned to the office and thought he went unnoticed. He was boo’d by the protesters.

Here’s the sad part: This guy knows the residents in The Towers have not received any information about the homeless shelter from Justin Brannan. Brannan has not held any community meetings or sent information about the shelter through the mail. This is just mean.

A homeless shelter is being put up next to their home. Of course someone should have spoken to the residents there by now!

Some of the children living in The Towers will be walking past this Homeless Shelter to get to school. Of course adults in Bay Ridge are going to protest this!

Here’s where things got ugly….Justin Brannan went after the protesters and posted the photo his staffer took on X (formerly Twitter) while they were outside his office. (See here – it’s actually still up!)

The people who peacefully protested today should be proud of themselves for standing up for our community.

I believe many of the people living in The Towers are Democrats, but what if they aren’t? Why would the Councilman be so obsessed with calling anyone a Maga?

In flyers, Brannan says that he doesn’t care what party people belong to:

Photo: Tom Hilton

I guess that’s his way of dehumanizing someone because they called out his failure to communicate. People have the right to protest, even if Justin Brannan wants to act like a fascist and try to stop them.

Residents noted that the 68th Precinct had six police officers, three community affairs officers and a Captain at the protest.

Justin Brannan’s job isn’t to be a teenager and post resident’s picture on the social media to mock residents – it’s to provide residents with information.

Ironically, years ago, Justin Brannan and Chris McCreight spoke out against a politician who hid from protesters.

Why didn’t Democrat District Leader, Chris McCreight take the names of all the protesters and contact them one-by-on? McCreight knows these residents have received very little information about the homeless shelter!

Susan Zhuang Voted Against The Override – She’s For The Community

I’m impressed that the new Council representative for Dyker Heights, Susan Zhuang didn’t vote with the Democrats. She voted for the police and for safety.

You can see Councilwoman Zhuang’s No vote here.

Councilwoman Zhuang also wrote an op-ed with Inna Vernkov to explain how this change will affect Asian and Jewish communities. (See article)

Councilman Brannan Voted Yes to the “How Many Stops Act” Today

Today, NYC Council voted to override Mayor Adams’ veto of their bill, 586-A “The How Many Stops Act.”

It’s clear there is a problem with some officers in the NYPD:

NYC Council’s plan to have the NYPD log encounters with the public could have been used with police officers who had negative interactions with the public. They would change their ways so they wouldn’t be stuck doing paperwork. There is a problem in the NYPD and this app could have been a way to fix the problem

The 68th Precinct shared on X (formerly Twitter) that this bill will put pressure on an already strained department.

In this video, the police explain why the 586-A

The reality is that good, hard-working police officers will have to do paperwork all day long to log who they spoke with. This act was made by people who don’t know how to manage other people and want to micromanage the police department.

You can see the vote for yourself here.

It was no surprise that Justin Brannan voted to override the Mayor.

Five days before Christmas, Justin Brannan voted for this bill. Brannan did not share this vote with the community in a newsletter or on social media. You can see that vote here

Brannan’s on the Committee of Public Safety….(SMH) and voted for it in committee too.

On January 22nd, Councilman Brannan’s picture was on the cover of the NY Post. It said the Mayor had to get two NYC Councilmembers to change their votes. (The Mayor was not at Brannan’s inauguration party this weekend.)

Here’s the thing: Justin Brannan’s vote was not needed for this to pass. The Democrats had plenty of votes for this to pass without Brannan:

Councilman Brannan could have voted to support the police, but he wanted to be part of “that Council vote that stuck it to the police”.

While several NYC Councilmembers took a ride with the police, Justin Brannan and most of them didn’t bother. (Info) The “know-it-all” councilmembers didn’t think they could learn anything by going out with the police.

Tonight, some of you will be fooled by this word soup: (See it here)

Some NYS politicians are even trying to have the NYC police commissioner voted upon. (See here) This is a bill in the NYS Senate now: (See bill)

Prediction: There will be a lot less interaction from the police, especially in neighborhoods which really need it. No one wants to do extra “paperwork” on an app or be micromanaged.
