May 21, 2024CB 10 – When Did Loading Zones Become Placard Parking Spots in Bay Ridge?

The loading zone outside of Starbucks on 3rd Avenue and 92nd Street isn’t just for trucks loading items, as Community Board 10 told us it would be.

If you have a placard, you can pop that in your front window and go eat breakfast at Paneantico, like this entitled individual.

It’s a free parking spot for some.
Why did Community Board 10 add all of these loading zones after Justin Brannan was lobbied over them? (Info here)
How do we get rid of the ones which are being abused?

May 21, 2024Put Up a Rainbow in Bay Ridge for Pride Month

There are ten days left until June, when Pride month begins.
Three years ago, a member of GayRidge counted all the Pride flags in Bay Ridge and there were hardly any. They shared that less than 1% of businesses in Bay Ridge displayed a pride flag.

This past year, two pride flags were burned in Bay Ridge. Senator Andrew Gounardes didn’t take action and replace the flags in our community.
Councilman Brannan spoke to the newspaper, but he didn’t replace the flag either – the haters won and got rid of the pride flags. (See here)
Sadly, one of the co-directors of GayRidge told the newspaper:

We have to do better Bay Ridge!
On the Shore Road bike path is a rainbow bench dedicated to a teen our community lost in 2020.

If you knew you could send a message of acceptance to teens who haven’t felt accepted, wouldn’t you?

Did you know that in NYC, the rate of attempted suicide was 32% among NYC youth who have been bullied on school grounds in the past 12 months and identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual or were not sure of their sexual identity. (Source)

May 21, 2024Press Conference on May 21st at 2:00 pm

There has to be a way to do this protest in Bay Ridge better.
"This has only taught us to be more unafraid and made us more emboldened to know our rights — to resist this crackdown on our streets, in our neighborhoods, and beyond."@NerdeenKiswani at the community press conference on NYPD violence in Bay Ridge during our Nakba 76 rally pic.twitter.com/YyIHlbq7YC

A business owner brought the group food! So kind!
When owner of Al-Aqsa Restaurant & Bakery Mahmoud Kasem saw that this press conference — organized WOL Palestine in response to the NYPD’s bloody policing of Saturday’s Nakba protest in Bay Ridge — was happening he prepared some falafel & tahina and brought it over to the event. pic.twitter.com/X1lyBIn4BE

May 20, 2024Community Leader Removed From CB 10 Before Her Term Was Over

On April 25th, Barbara V. received a letter that she was removed from Community Board 10 because of rezoning.
Since elected leaders gerrymandered the area, our Community Board has representatives from other City Council representatives that represent parts of Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights.
Barbara was appointed last year and had another year left!
Barbara took her position on CB 10 very seriously. She would research everything and explain things to Bay Ridge. Barbara was amazing on the police and public safety committee. Barbara loves this community and speaks out for Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights.
Brooklyn Borough President, Antonio Reynoso should not have added more members to Community Board 10.
I don’t know Barbara personally, but we see the parent of an elected representative has not been removed from CB 10. (See list) C’mon!
