The good weather has brought all the drivers to our neighborhood. They rev their engines and get ready to race. The problem is they race until around 2:00 am before going home.
Is Bay Ridge immune to the speeding?
The circular tire track marks on 4th Avenue and the Bay Ridge Parkway intersection have people worried.

Assemblyman Brook-Krasny shared that Eden’s Raceway at Luna Park, the first electric-powered go-karts in New York City! (More info)
Their are no emissions from these carts, like there was with the gas-powered ones.

May 23, 2024Lottery Opened for Bay Ridge Towers – June 2024
Update: The results from this lottery will be out on December 19th.
In September, some people received letters that they were on the waiting list (if any of the preliminary applicants didn’t meet the requirements).
The Bay Ridge Courier announced the lottery for the The Bay Ridge Towers. So far, it is only for studio apartments. This is middle income affordable housing through the Mitchell Lama program.
To request a lottery application you send a self-stamped address envelope. It must reach them by 9:00 am on June 24th (so aim to be earlier):

This lottery is for both of the buildings.
After everyone sends in their application, they do the lottery for the order that 300 people will contacted when a studio becomes available. Some people are lucky and get called right away, but many wait on the list for years.
Some people, who don’t want a studio will apply for it because once someone lives in a building, they will transfer to a larger apartment when it becomes available.

Pope Francis asked Catholics to care for the Earth this year. St. Andrew’s heard the message and responded.
The Care for Creation ministry doesn’t just remember the Earth on one day.
This year, during Laudato Si’ Week, the group will dedicate a St. Kateri habitat named in honor of the patron saint of the environment, Saint Kateri.
The habitat has to have flowers that attract pollinators, no chemicals can be used and there has to be a religious aspect.

May 23, 202449-Year-Old Man Killed in Sunset Park
A 49-year-old man riding an ebike was killed on 4th Avenue and 53rd Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn at 9:00 am. (News)
A 40-year-old man driving a pickup truck made a left turn and the cyclist hit into the truck. The cyclist was taken to NYU Hospital in Brooklyn, but passed away.
The man remained at the scene of the accident and was not charged.

May 22, 2024Bay Ridge – Did You Receive the Notice About City of Yes Meeting on June 4th at FHHS?
On June 4th, Community Board 10 is having a meeting at 7:00 pm on The City of Yes Housing Opportunity Text Amendment, which will change the zoning in our community.
We did not receive the letter above. Did you?
Sadly, Senator Andrew Gounardes has pushed the City of Yes, but have never shared any information with our community. (Info here)
Gounardes sat quietly at the last City of Yes Meeting at St. Anselm. He did not speak or offer any information. After the meeting, Andrew Gounardes failed to shared information about the City of Yes in his social media or in mailings. Gounardes has not held a townhall meeting in years. At the last townhall, he promised action on the trucks on Poly Place, but failed to follow through.
So come to this meeting at Fort Hamilton High School on June 4th and share how you feel about accessory dwellings.
Community Board 10 finally made a graphic to share information about the meeting online.
They wrote: Community Board 10 Zoning and Land Use Committee invites you to attend a Public Informational Meeting to learn about the Citywide Zoning Text Amendment City of Yes for Housing Opportunity on Tuesday, June 4th at 7pm – Fort Hamilton High School Auditorium 8301 Shore Road – enter on Narrows Avenue at 85th Street.
Councilman Brannan will be voting on this in the Fall.
