Efrain Barreto Was Killed in Sunset Park. Brooklyn, Can You Help?

Last week, 82-year-old Efrain Barreto was killed on 60th Street by man riding an unregistered motor bike. No insurance. (See story and video)

The 32-year-old man riding the unregistered bike is free.

The family buried their father yesterday. Today, they asked residents in Brooklyn to call the assistant district attorney, Jonathan Johnson 718-250-2687, who is handling the case.

The family wrote: “Please call whether you knew Efrain Barreto or not.” Please tell the Assistant District Attorney’s Office that Efrain Barreto’s Life Mattered and that we cannot continue to allow these motorcyclists and mopeds to get away with injuries and terrorizing our neighborhoods. We need safer streets and we cannot tolerate the injustice and lawlessness that has become an everyday occurrence. The law has to change and if it has to start with my father, Efrain Barreto so that no one else gets killed, so be it .”

Efrain Barreto has lived in Sunset Park since 1967. Everyone in Sunset Park knows this family because they would help anyone! It takes five minutes to make a phone call and maybe Jonathan Johnson will actually do something.

Prayers for Efrain’s family.

Antisemitism Has Been Allowed to Grow in Brooklyn

When protesters show up at the Brooklyn Museum and protest, it’s quite different from people showing up outside the homes of Jewish board members and throwing paint on their property.

NYC must take action so the Brooklyn Museum’s Jewish Board Members are not threatened.

Because some things have been allowed and gone unchecked in Brooklyn, angry protesters are trying other things (and hope not to get caught.)

Hopefully, NYC is providing security to these people.

While Senator Andrew Gounardes may think Bay Ridge is better with cannabis dispensaries, everyone in Bay Ridge does not feel this way. This meeting was about the application for a Marijuana Dispensary at the old Pilo Arts building at 8412 Third Avenue.

The only elected leader present at the meeting was Assemblyman Alec Brook Krasny.

Statues at St. Dominic’s Church Were Vandalized UPDATE: Perp Arrested

John’s Photo

Update: Steven Chan shared: “I had an opportunity to speak to the commanding officer of the 62 pct a few hours ago. The perpetrator was arrested by the 62 precinct Neighborhood coordination officers. (Great job officers!) He also vandalized the traffic signals at the intersection. (Steven Chan is running for office – elect him!!)

Two statues outside of St. Dominic’s Church at 2001 Bay Ridge Pkwy (20th Avenue) were badly vandalized around 3:00 pm today. (See Citizen Alert) It’s awful to see this outside of a church.

The statue above is of Pope John XXIII and it is missing his face and hand. Below is a gold statue that was badly damaged.
