June 8, 2024Hit and Run – Bath Avenue & Bay Parkway

A male driver hit another vehicle on Bath Avenue and Bay Parkway (by the liquor store) and then turned and left.
The other driver was a woman, who took to social media because she was surprised someone who do a hit and run in this neighborhood. The male driver did not ask if the other driver or passenger were hurt. Thankfully they are okay, although her daughter has whiplash.
Their car also had small damage – two holes from his license plates.
One man who was walking by went over to the car and chatted with the driver. He saw it happen and must have realized she was shaken up.

Last night there were a lot of police cars on the Verrazzano Bridge. People complained about the delays and said they saw many people being pulled over.
Another successful Verrazano Narrows Bridge ? initiative was conducted with more vehicle seizures. Reminder to all motorists: vehicles need to be registered and plates displayed properly. No Tape!

People who were driving with obstructed license plates were pulled over. Some vehicles were ticked and some vehicles were seized.
This is not the first time the police were on the bridge doing this, so beware anyone who is covering their license plates.

June 8, 2024Mural on 13th Avenue and Bay Ridge Ave. Who are the Three Young Men in the Painting?

I never knew the story behind the mural on the three guys 13th Avenue and Bay Ridge Avenue.
In 2008, four friends went fishing and their boat capsized. One of the men was able to get to safety, the other three died. (Story here)
RIP Domenico Coluccio, Anthony Dupont and Carlo Milito. Such a beautiful tribute to three young lives lost.

June 8, 2024CB 10 Meeting on Monday, June 10th – Cannabis Dispensary for Pilo Arts Location?

Community Board 10 is taking their Police and Public Safety Committee Meeting on Monday will be held at DGK School at 8502 Ridge Blvd. They have not held a meeting at this location before.

The topic: A cannabis dispensary is applying to open at 8412 3rd Avenue (which was Pilo Arts former location).

Senator Andrew Gounardes voted in favor of cannabis being legal. (Info here) But Gounardes failed to check if the program would be rolled out appropriately in his community. For two years, we were told they were closing these shops. This month, they closed a few.
Now a large dispensary wants to open on 84th Street and 3rd Avenue, which parents have said is to close to two schools.
Cannabis lovers say that a dispensary is a lot different than a smoke- shop selling cannabis and people shouldn’t worry.
When there are 25+ cannabis shops in your neighborhood, no one cares if there is a difference. Because these shops are cash-only, they get robbed regularly. Federal law prohibits banks and credit unions from taking marijuana money.
For years, Senator Andrew Gounardes has failed to communicate with the community about these shops, so non-cannabis using residents would not know there was a difference. Elect people who want to communicate with the community and hold townhall meetings!
