Silver Star Restaurant Closed For Good

Silver Star Restaurant on 18th Avenue and 62nd Street closed – yesterday was their last day. They wrote this message:

Some loyal patrons of the restaurant received phone calls from the staff.

For eight decades, families have loved visiting this sit-down restaurant in Bensonhurst and eating their favorite dishes including Silver Star’s amazing Lo Mein.

The original owner passed away and his son was running the restaurant. The restaurant (not the building) was for sale, (see here) so it may have sold.

The extensive street work in the area and Jin Jin Hong Kong Cafe being across the street must not have helped business. (See their dishes here)
Restaurants with similar types of food:
1) China New Star on Flatbush Avenue. (It’s so good)
2) China Moon on the corner of Cropsey Avenue and 26th Avenue – for take out – not a sit down restaurant. They have good fried rice!
3) New Ruan’s Restaurant at 1955 – 86th Street

A 2022 white Honda Odyssey, elite was stolen last night.
Why is there a flyer about this vehicle?
This car was stolen on 16th Avenue & 54th Street in Borough Park and a community group called the Shmira are getting the word out.
Years ago, the Shomrim was the volunteer group that guarded Borough Park. Now they have the Shomrim and Shmira (meaning: protection) guard the area.

July 19, 2024The 67th Street House Was Sealed – Hooray!

Great News! Councilman Justin Brannan shared that had the house at 1237 – 67th Street sealed – that’s the house that the squatters were starting fires in. Now the squatters can’t get back in!

Last Friday, the squatters started another fire at this house, so I am glad to hear that Councilman Brannan took action. so that the people living in the neighboring homes don’t have to worry. (Info)
Here’s the new problem: The squatters are going to look for another house to squat in the area. Dyker Heights residents: keep an eye on buildings that have been empty for awhile.

July 18, 2024Journalist Called Out Andrew Gounardes and Brannan For Playing Politics On Social Media

If you are wondering why things don’t get done in Bay Ridge, it’s because elected officials are playing on social media and not taking care of important issues (ex. PS 185’s Afterschool Program was defunded. (Info Here)
Finally, a journalist called out our Bay Ridge politicians for going after their political foes:

There was a lot of chaos in Brooklyn yesterday near the location for the new homeless shelter planned for 86th Street in Gravesend, Brooklyn. The developers started working at 5:00 am and when the Councilwoman Susan Zhuang saw there were no permits, she went to the location to protest the work. Things got heated between the people and police.
Neither Senator Andrew Gounardes or Justin Brannan attended the rally. Yet, Andrew Gounardes spent yesterday playing on social media like a 15-year-old teen. He wrote the statement below to stick it to another politician because his friend (a woman from Queens lost to the current councilwoman)….so hateful!

Neither Gounardes or Brannan represents that area, so why would they need to make a statement? The politicians should have worked on restoring funding the afterschool programs in Bay Ridge! (Info Here)

People are catching on to Gounardes’ unprofessional use of social media

Today, the same journalist shared this photo saying that Justin Brannan handed these teeth to a reporter for Spectrum News at a press conference today:

Bay Ridge, remember our community was only told one sentence from Community Board 10 about the homeless shelter in Bay Ridge.
Andrew Gounardes and Justin Brannan failed to communicate with the community about the homeless shelter and the City of Yes.
A few times a month, Andrew Gounardes sends out an email with photos of himself, but he isn’t sharing important information like the difference between a legal marijuana dispensary and the illegal ones we have been seen for two years!
Andrew Gounardes attended the City of Yes meeting at St. Anselm and he didn’t stand up and share any information with the community. Brannan didn’t even attend!
We need to elect people who want to help our community, communicate with us and not be people who who hate other politicians in adjacent districts.

July 18, 2024Why Didn’t Senator Iwen Chu Share The Photo of This Man to Her District? Ft. Hamilton Parkway

This man sexually assaulted a teen at Fort Hamilton Parkway station in June. Why didn’t Iwen Chu tell the community?
The 68th Precinct also did not share this information with the community.
Why has this taken the police so long to share? Senator Chu should be finding out that as well.
