August 2, 2024Hit and Run on 70th Street in Bay Ridge

Right before 7:00 pm tonight, a white car hit a woman as she was walking with her dog crossing the street at the corner of 70th Street and Ridge Blvd in Bay Ridge.
The car didn’t stop and it sped away after hitting the woman. She tried to chase down the vehicle, but it was too late.
She was able to get some video footage from local stores and filed a police report. Thankfully, she and her dog are both alright.
Why didn’t the woman just go home and forget about it? Because she is a good person and she knows the next person that is hit by this driver isn’t going to be so lucky. So yes, it’s time consuming and annoying to report it, but eventually this idiot is going to get caught.

August 2, 2024Inna Vernikov’s Bill to Stop Other Countries From Participating in NYC Elections With Donations

I was glad to see Councilwoman Inna Vernikov’s bill – Intro 598 that will stop foreign donations in NYC elections. (See bill) Vernikov represents District 48 – Midwood, Brighton Beach and a part of Sheepshead Bay.
Recently, we have been seeing a stories in the news of politicians who have accepted money from the Chinese Communist Party. (See Newsweek Article) The CCP didn’t donate a million dollars to politicians for nothing. (Info)
We need to remind local politicians that we aren’t going to support anyone who is accepting money from the CCP. If you took it, please return it as it isn’t worth it.

August 2, 2024Why was the Bay Ridge Library Closed Today – Sign Said Inclement Weather!

The Bay Ridge Library on Ridge Blvd and 73rd Street closed today due to the air conditioner not working.
The sign on the door said: “Closed Friday due to inclement weather.”
Ridgites thought that meant due to the rain today and they were annoyed.
This library was closed today because the air conditioning was not working. Why didn’t they write that instead of upsetting people?
Many people use the library as a cooling center when it is very hot out.

Right before 1:00 am this morning, there was a bad collision on 18th Avenue and 65th Street.

July 31, 2024What Andrew Gounardes Forgot to Tell Us About New Yorkers United for Childcare ….

Senator Andrew Gounardes hasn’t held a community meeting since June 2022. During that meeting Andrew Gounardes promised to do things, but he didn’t follow through. (Info here)
Today, Gounardes wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that he is co-hosting a Happy Hour about universal childcare. People would have to pay $50 a ticket to attend. YIKES!

Andrew Gounardes failed to tell Bay Ridge that the new organization, New Yorkers United for Childcare is run by his former staffer.

While I don’t think Gounardes is a good representative, I didn’t think he would do something like this!

Politicians know that parents don’t have time to look that up! But in terms of transparency, Senator Andrew Gounardes should have revealed that his former staffer is in charge of New Yorkers United for Childcare.
If you paid for a ticket and didn’t know that information, ask for your money back!

Andrew Gounardes is terrible about communicating with our community. Gounardes failed to tell the community that afterschool programs in Bay Ridge were defunded by the state and parents at some schools are just finding out now. (Info here)

A parent in Bay Ridge shared the New Yorkers United for Childcare event flyer. I messaged him about it and he responded. Then I asked the parent to put me in contact with the head of the organization. I didn’t hear back.
I wrote to the organization and she didn’t express any concern for families at schools losing their afterschool program in Bay Ridge. I thought, “What parent in Bay Ridge wouldn’t be concerned?” And then I realized – it’s not someone from Bay Ridge!
When Community Board 10 had a meeting about the City of Yes, Gounardes attended, but failed to share any information with the community at the meeting!
Elect politicians who want to hold meetings – not for their friend’s organizations to make money, but for the community to receive information.
Gounardes keeps spamming the community with email from his campaign email address. People didn’t give Andrew Gounardes their email address so he could promote his former employee’s event.

July 31, 202423 Years After 9/11, Terrorist Gets a Plea Deal

Harsh news today for anyone who lost someone on 9/11. The terrorist is getting a plea deal. (News here)
Nicole Malliotakis said: “Any plea deal with the terrorists responsible for killing thousands of Americans including so many of my constituents is unacceptable. We owe it to the victims, their families and those 9/11 heroes who continue dying today from related illnesses to pursue the death penalty.”
Jim Smith, the husband of Moira Smith, the police officer from Bay Ridge who lost her life on 9/11 was also quoted in (This article).

Jim Smith said: “The prosecution and families have waited for 23 years to have our day in court to put on the record what these animals did to our loved ones. “They took that opportunity away from us,” he said of the US government, adding of the alleged terrorists, “They committed the worst crime in the history of our country. They should receive the highest penalty.”
