I was sad to hear that Tom Pacella died yesterday, July 29th.
A celebration of Tom’s life will take place in September (Info)
So many people shared pictures and memories of Big T on Facebook. Everyone was remarking what a kind and gentle person he was. Many people knew him because Tom was always out, enjoying life and talking with everyone at Bay Ridge places.
RIP Tom.

Flyer Tells Brooklynites to Sell Their Homes Near the Shelter
William Colton shared a flyer that someone received in his district telling home owners near the new homeless shelter on 86th Street.
This is called block busting and we should see newspapers writing about it.
If you receive a flyer like this, Assemblyman Colton would like people to forward it to him.

Bay Ridge Rocks Continues to Surprise People
A few years ago, Bay Ridge Rocks painted rocks and hid them around the community. Now they are hiding ducks too!
Some kind person bought ducks, made the label, printed it and laminated it to make other people smile.

Petition to Landmark Visitation Academy

I don’t like petitions, but I signed this one because the creator is a preservationist and has landmarked other buildings in NYC.
The petition is from Kelly Carroll, who is part of the landmark advocacy group, Historic Districts Council. (Info on HDC here)

Rav4 SUV Taken at Gunpoint 70th Street Between 9th & 10th Early This Morning
This morning around 6:50 am, a person reported that a man wearing a mask and holding a gun stole their 2013 Rav 4 from 70th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues.
The thief was wearing a mask and had been in a red vehicle before the robbery.
It’s a gray Rav with the license plate: GTB4199. (Info)
In the last month, 24 cars have been stolen in the 68th Precinct, which is up from 10 at the same time last year.

New Student Driver Accident on Shore Road

While this accident looks terrible, a Bay Ridge resident explained what happened.
A new student driver was practicing with her parent. She was anxious and mistook the gas and brake pedals. Their vehicle went through the fence on Shore Road and Bay Ridge Parkway.
Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Luis Flores is Missing From Brooklyn
Update: It’s August 6, 2024 and Luis still has not been found. Luis has been missing from Brooklyn for twenty-three days – something is wrong. His friend posted on Tiktok today. (See here)
Luis Flores was last seen on 2nd Avenue and 54th Street in Brooklyn on Sunday, July 14th.
Luis was wearing a black t-shirt with the NY Yankees logo in green, black basketball shorts and and white sneakers as shown in this photo:
This Sunset Park father is 40 years old.
Luis is 5’9″ and 215 lbs.
Prayers for his fast return!

Summer Stroll on 3rd Avenue is Tonight, 7/26
Tonight’s Summer Stroll is from 68th Street to 82nd Street from 6:00 – 10:00 pm. (Click here to see specials and bands.)
The bands and specials for this weeks Summer Stroll:
1) The Ridge Shop at 8121 – 3rd Avenue has ices, patches, treats and special discounts and giveaways!

2) The Pour House at 7901 – 3rd Avenue will have Kieran Monaghan performing from 6:30 – 9:30 pm.
3) Encypher Music will be 8027-3rd Avenue. Artists are performing and this group is fundraising forthe 523 Jal Foundation. This foundation uses the creative arts to help people with their mental health.
4) L’Angolo Di Palermo at 7801 3rd Avenue has a special: buy 1 sandwich 2nd sandwich 50% off and live music.
5) Olives and Pita at 7720 – 3rd Avenue is having their first lamb roast starting at 6:00 pm.

6) Greenhouse Cafe at 7717 3rd Avenue has Acoustic Ed, Mike, Diana, Ritchie and Friends from 7:00 – 10:00 pm.
7) 74th Street and 3rd Avenue will be set up with free activities for children!
8) Amuni Restaurant at 7217 – 3rd Avenue has a lot of specials (see menu below)
9) Blue Agave Mexican Restaurant at 7215 3rd Avenue will have live music with DJ Alberto and drink specials.
10) Peace by Piece Thrift Store at 6931- 3rd Avenue is having a Christmas in July sale – all Christmas items are 50% off.
