The Post Speculated on Justin Brannan’s Next Position – They Were Wrong Before!

Since Brad Lander is running for Mayor, the post speculated on who is going to run for the Comptroller seat. Mark Levine is expected to run for comptroller. Keith Powers is expected to run for Manhattan Borough President.

The Post shared that Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso is eyeing a comptroller and so it Justin Brannan. (Source)

Last November, the same journalist told us that Brannan was going to run for Congress against Malliotakis. And we see that didn’t happen. (Source)

I don’t think Reynoso is running for comptroller because he has another term as Brooklyn Borough President that he can glide on. The paper stated that Brannan would run for borough president if Reynoso doesn’t.

Art at Narrows Botanical Garden Vandalized Plus Update

Photo: NBG

Someone sprayed yellow paint over the art displayed at the Narrows Botanical Garden. The work was destroyed. NBG asked if anyone knows anything about this, to please contact them.

It’s very sad to see this because the art was beautiful and unexpected in the park.

These six works were done by Kristin Reiber Harris, a Bay Ridge artist. The drawings of plants were created on paper and then transferred to vinyl, so it may be possible to have another set printed – maybe? (Info here)

Update: The art was recreated and the park was cleaned up.

NBG is maintained by the people who love and appreciate the area. It’s too bad that there isn’t a way to lock the area at night so bored teens don’t return.

NBG is on Shore Road between Bay Ridge Avenue and 72nd Street.

Justin Brannan Is This Pay-To-Play in NYC?

UPDATE August 4, 2024

Journalist, Rich Calder pointed out that politicians introduced legislation which would drive up hotel costs in NYC. (See article)

Justin Brannan didn’t mention this legislation in the email telling the community what he has done. Would you have noticed if he did? Would you have cared?

Is This Pay-To-Play in NYC Government?

The Hotel & Gaming Trades Council donated $711,428 to politicians and Brannan received a lot:

“This is like a nuclear bomb. It will destroy a major segment of the industry. This is a bazooka to kill a gnat,” said Vijay Dandapani, president and CEO of the Hotel Association of New York City. (Source)

The bill originally would have hurt the restaurant industry too, but Julie Menin changed the bill after Andrew Ridgie, head of NYC Hospitality Alliance and others complained. (See here)

On Sunday, August 4th, the NY Post had another explaining that hotel owners are raising money to have a lobbying group to get rid of NYC Council’s bill. (See article)

Brooklyn – Everyone Watches The Game

An group of people playing an afternoon game in Borough Park.

There are a lot more people are watching the game than playing it. In other neighborhoods in Brooklyn, someone keeps watch for the police – not here. Many groups gather every day in this area and gamble.

Homelessness in NYC Increased Drastically – Why Didn’t NYC Council Change Their Budgets?

This afternoon Spectrum News shared the statistics about the sharp increase in homeless people in NYC. (See above)

There are thousands of people sleeping unsheltered in public spaces in NYC.

It’s good so many people were able to double and triple up with their families so they have a space to stay.

NYC politicians continued spending and giving money to not-for-profits instead of addressing the increases in homelessness in NYC.

Our Councilman Justin Brannan was too afraid to speak about the homeless shelter in Bay Ridge. That made people even more afraid.

Senator Andrew Gounardes failed to speak to the community about the homeless shelter as well. Gounardes is often silent about important issues. Other state senators communicate with their district when a homeless shelter is being placed in their community:

Swings at John J. Carty Park Were Vandalized

Update 8/5/24

The men were there to fix the swings early in the morning:

A parent shared that several screws had been removed from the swings at JJ Carty Park in Bay Ridge.

This park was recently remodeled and the screws shouldn’t have been that easy for menacing teens to remove.

Photo: Julia Elizabeth (shared here)

I reported it to 311, so hopefully a lot of people report it and NYC Parks is alerted to the problem, fixes it and no one gets hurt.

Some concerned parents rolled up the swings, but people keep trying to take them down because they don’t understand it is dangerous.

Justin Brannan Wrote ANOTHER Op-Ed, Instead of Taking Action for NYC With Legislation

Councilman Justin Brannan wrote ANOTHER opt. ed.

This time Brannan went after Donald Trump and Project 2025. Project 2025 is a 922 page document that some people say is the plan if Trump is elected again. (See Project 2025 here)

Donald Trump claimed he did not know who wrote Project 2025. CNN found that 140 people who worked for Trump were involved in Project 2025. (Source)

In Justin Brannan’s article, Brannan explained that Project 2025 will change healthcare drastically for Brooklynites.

On page 498 of Project 2025, it states that Medicare Advantage will be the default enrollment option:

Former NYC workers know that Medicare Advantage is an inferior plan, as some retirees were forced on it for a short time. (Info)

AARP commented on Medicare Advantage:

Justin Brannan tells us he’s a union man and is fighting like hell for Brooklyn. So why did Brannan write an op-ed for an online publication, rather than writing a bill to protect NYC residents from Medicare Advantage?

Now is the time for NYC Council to take action against Trump and make sure that NYC employees and retirees don’t have to deal with Medicare Advantage. They can ban the use of Medicare Advantage in NYC and that would protect everyone.

Plea Deal for 9/11 Terrorists Removed

On Wednesday last week, the news announced that the 9/11 terrorists were receiving a plea deal. (Info) Today, Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III announced that there would be no plea deal for 9/11 terrorists!

Some NYC Families were furious that 9/11 terrorist were able to get a plea deal.

James Smith, husband of Moira Smith, the only female police officer to lose her life on 9/11, was very angry and voiced his opposition to any plea deal. (See here) The Smiths lived in Bay Ridge.

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis was glad that the decision was reversed and said that this Administration needs to be serious about national security.
