Community Board 10 Meeting September 16th – Bring Your Community Problems and Complaints

On Monday, September 16, 2024, Community Board 10 will have a meeting at The Knights of Columbus at 1305 – 86th Street.

Topics carried from previous years that are ignored or no one wants to discuss:

a) Did 10th Avenue water pipes get fixed so there isn’t flooding in the Dyker Heights resident’s homes?

b) Did they change some tennis courts into pickleball courts so more people could play and wouldn’t need to wait for a court (this was an easy one)?

c) Why was Barbara thrown off Community Board 10 without reason and new members added? UPDATE 9/16: Barbara was restored.

d) The new high school on Ovington Avenue that CB 10 voted against, but is opening next to several elementary schools and CB 10 didn’t take action.

e) The homeless shelter on 4th Avenue that CB 10 only said one sentence about.

Andrew Gounardes is Not Helping Constituents in Brooklyn With Property Taxes – See Video

A small business owner in Sunset Park was charged over $30,000 in property taxes this year! He contacted Senator Andrew Gounardes and he had to deal with Gounardes’ staffer.

Why didn’t Andrew pick up the phone and call the constituent?

Gounardes should be answering to constituents, especially when his staffer is not able to answer the constituent’s questions and they call back.

When the small business owner saw Gounardes this week, he spoke to him respectfully.

Senator Gounardes’ demeanor was not appropriate for a public servant: (Watch the video below)

When Gounardes ran for office, Andrew told us he was going to change property taxes.

Why did Andrew Gounardes not step up for this small business owner in Brooklyn?

Gounardes has been office for six years and has failed to make has failed make any change to property taxes. Andrew has not introduced new legislation or even held a community meeting.

This year, Gounardes pushed Congestion Pricing on NYC, instead of correcting property taxes.

Andrew Gounardes should step down if he doesn’t know how to help this constituent. Being rude is unacceptable! A politician refusing to help a constituent means it is time for the politician to take a different job.

Frankels has been in Brooklyn since 1890. Why is a small business next to the BQE paying $30,000 in property taxes?

Home owners in Bay Ridge are paying more than two times the property tax that Bill de Blasio and Brad Lander in Park Slope pay in property taxes. Rents are higher here because landlords want more rent to cover the higher tax.

Before Andrew Gounardes was elected, Justin Brannan and Gounardes said Marty Golden did not fix property taxes.

After elected to office, Andrew Gounardes said he was waiting for the property tax commission to return their report. The Commission returned the report years ago, but Andrew Gounardes failed to take any action.

As you all know, I have contacted Senator Gounardes several times. I have never received a callback from Andrew when I have left message.

When I emailed Senator Gounardes asking to see how the money for this area was spent, Gounardes’ staff did not respond for months. When they finally responded, I received an incomplete list. I sent a question to Gounardes’ staffer, Tori Burhans Kelly to clarify and I did not receive a response.

When You Don’t Show Up Until Election Season, You Can’t Expect Support

Senator Iwen Chu visited the 86th Street protest, but the people know she has not been with them all year.

This politician likes taking photos, so one clever Brooklynite held up a sign behind Senator Chu. In English it says, “You are not welcome here.” I tried a translator app on it, but it did not work. Someone translated it to: Cannot buy my mouth. Cannot buy my vote.

You can’t show up during election season and think you can fool people!

This red box translates to: 86th Street resident’s voice.

The people know Iwen Chu pushed a Queens politician against Susan for NYC Council. This new Asian District just received representation and Iwen didn’t think the people should be represented by one of their neighbors from Brooklyn!

This morning someone left this container with two guinea pigs outside of One Love Animal Hospital at 8209 3rd Avenue.

A kind Ridgite stayed with the little animals until someone from One Love opened the place (and thankfully, took them inside).

The person who left Rice and Beans, the two guinea pigs left a note on the side of the container, She explained that she was leaving a domestic abuse relationship.

**Prayers that this woman gets to a safe place and her healing begins.** She cared enough to bring the animals to a place she knew they would be cared for.

Governor Hochul Added Three Million to Save Afterschool Programs in NYC!

Yesterday, the news announced that Governor Hochul restored NYS funding for one year to afterschool programs, which didn’t receive funding in NYC. (News)

No programs in our area have announced any funding or that their program was restored, so let’s hope they are receiving some of the money.

Thankfully, Governor Hochul heard the parents and District 20’s CEC. Thank you Steven Stowe, Elizabeth Chen, John Riccotone and Joyce Xie for rallying on Labor Day Weekend for Families! (See here)

Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights, elect new state representatives because Andrew Gounardes and Iwen Chu didn’t tell parents or Bay Ridge that NYS had cut this funding.

Neither Senator showed up at the rally on September 1st to stand with the parents! Andrew Gounardes has rallied for the wrong thing in our community – see here
