Five brothers are selling lemonade on Shore Road and 79th Street from 1:30 pm until they run out.
This is the boy’s Summer project to learn about creating a business. They are raising money for the new school year.
*This was the cutest family. They were in a great spot on Shore Road and had a good flow of people getting lemonade.

August 17, 2024Where’s the Traffic Study for the 86th Street School That CM. Brannan Promised Bay Ridge?

School is opening in a few weeks. Yet, Councilman Brannan hasn’t provided Bay Ridge with the traffic study for 86th Street and 7th Avenue.

Councilman Brannan likes to make a lot of graphics like these, but will he keep his word to the community?

For the past few weeks, parents have been expressing concerns about traffic near this school and the new school on 3rd Avenue, but the politicians are not answering their concerns.
Traffic maps from Spectrum News and Channel 7 News show the traffic in that area. (See here or here)

NYC’s Crashmap shows that the area has problems. (See here) You can see previous years by pulling down the year on the right.
Councilman Brannan likes to add new schools, but he doesn’t work collaboratively with the community in setting up the school, so the school doesn’t have what families want. (See here) Schools are stronger when parents have input.
Councilman Brannan didn’t answer Community Board 10’s questions about safety at the new high school. There are already three schools on that street! CB 10 voted against the high school for that reason. Councilman Brannan overrode the Community Board. (Info) Brannan will be out of office when the high school is built.
In June, NYS defunded afterschool program at some schools in our area, without any reason. (Info) Senator Andrew Gounardes has not been able to explain where the funding went and restore it. How will afterschool be funded at the new schools, where there isn’t enough funding for existing schools?

August 16, 2024Why is a Park Renovated in 2016 Nicer Than Bay Ridge Parks that Were Renovated in 2024?

Families depend on parks for relaxation and entertainment. When a park gets a makeover, it is closed for almost a year and families expect to see an amazing park – like Gravesend Park on 18th Avenue and 59th Street.

There are five jungle gyms at Gravesend Park – each with a different theme.

The park is fully enclosed and has a music area with several xylophones.

In 2016, $5.4 million was spent on Gravesend Park renovations. (Source)
In 2024, $5.4 million was spent on J.J. Carty Park, but the park looks like many others that were recently renovated. The jungle gyms look like a kit, just in different colors. (Source)

In 2020, Justin Brannan and NYC Parks held a meeting for Owls Head Parks renovations.
Children asked for:
1) Monkey bars
2) A bridge attached to a boat (like a pirate ship) and a water area with sand
3) Big kids swings (NYC Parks said they need 30 feet high to install this so it may not be part of the design)
4) A strawberry to climb in
5) Longer slides

August 14, 2024Andrew Gounardes Won’t Tell NYC That Lobbyists Win with Justin Brannan

Years ago, Andrew Gounardes spoke out against politicians who were led by lobbyists. Now he is silent because Justin Brannan is his friend.
If we had a better senator, that person would have called out the amount of lobbyists that have won in Brooklyn!
The secret lobbying behind the school at Nathan’s made everyone distrust these men. (See here) And when parents called for safety at the school, both Gounardes and Brannan failed to provide a safety report. They were too busy tweeting.
So no Justin Brannan would not make a good comptroller. He hasn’t been a good representative for his community.
