Is Con Edison Overcharging Customers?

This Summer many people complained about their unusually high Con Edison Bills.

The Public Service Commission approved a rate hike for National Grid, not Con Edison.

Yet, Congress representative Ritchie Torres saw that residents were receiving different charges. (See story here)

Food Bazaar Will Replace Stop & Shop on Cropsey Avenue in Brooklyn

The staff said that Stop and Shop is closing on September 5th.

Food Bazaar Supermarket will open on September 6th at 2965 Cropsey Avenue, where Stop and Shop Supermarket is currently located. (See their flyer with prices)

Stop and Shop is closing 32 stores this year. (Source)

Food Bazaar has fair prices:

Councilman Brannan said that Stop and Shop’s last day in business is September 19th and Food Bazaar will open on September 20th.

Last year, Food Bazaar took over the Stop and Shop Location on Flatbush Avenue. (Info here) People like the prices and international section at Food Bazaar.

In 2020, Food Bazaar took over Fairway’s location on Van Brunt Street after Fairway Supermarket went out of business. While it isn’t as good as Fairway, it is a very good grocery store. The community around the store demands a clean store and an easy to use parking lot, so if this new shop isn’t clean or the parking lot needs better lighting, make sure to speak up.

If you are changing grocery stores, be sure to get Food Bazaar’s app before you go, so you can start receiving reward points at checkout!

Bored Teens Tagged Shore Road Park

Photo: Britton W.

It’s the end of Summer and teens are bored, so they put their tags on Shore Road Park.

It’s not terrible graffiti. It doesn’t contain hate (some graffiti in Bay Ridge is hateful). It needs to be removed because it is on the wall of a ballpark for team sports.

The tagged wall was called in to 311 and residents are thinking about painting it themselves.

Teens in our community have no place to go and hang out. The money from this community goes to all kinds of not-for-profit, private organizations. That money is supposed to be for a community center for teens to go, like other communities have. Elect better leaders, who will put tax money towards a community center.

NYPD Ticketing Cars Stopping in Bus Stops

Today the NYPD will start ticketing cars in the bus stop or double parked in the street on a bus route.

While many will call this a money grab, you would know this was necessary if you have ever been stuck on a street behind a bus that can’t get through because people are parking in the bus top or double parking on the street.

Harry Mena shared this photo taken in the 72nd Precinct:

More restaurants will probably offer curbside delivery when they realize that people aren’t stopping at their place because they can’t park and don’t want to get a ticket.

Be careful where you park, Bay Ridge!

St. Rosalie Feast – 18th Avenue in Brooklyn

Pic from Live Walking NYC (Here)

A lot of people were glad to be out enjoying the feast last night – 18th Avenue was SO packed. Many people came back to visit and reminisce with their old friends.

People loved seeing Angelo Venuto and his family. They were singing and dancing in the street. (See video here)

Several stands are marked at Lucy’s. They aren’t Lucy Spano’s – hers is on 70th Street and 18th Avenue. The sandwiches there are $12 (the other places are $15).

Friday night, August 23rd – it will be packed again!

Revenge in Sunset Park – Near OLPH Church

Woooooooo someone was cheating in Sunset Park and someone with a broken heart took revenge.

The car is parked in front of OLPH Church on 5th Avenue between 59th and 60th Street, so everyone knows! Brutal!

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, especially a Sunset Park woman, who call you out in front of the basilica (the center of the community).

Greek Festival in Bay Ridge – September 2024

In 2024, the Holy Cross Greek Festival will take place from September 20th – Sunday, September 22nd.

The Holy Cross Greek Festival in Bay Ridge is Friday, Saturday and Sunday on 84th Street and Ridge Blvd.

Interested in being a vendor or sponsor of the Greek Festival – (See here)

Are you interested in volunteering? (Sign up here)

The Festival starts on Friday, September 20th at 2:00 pm.

On Saturday and Sunday, it begins at 12:00 pm. If you want to see a lot of people and see the festival in full force, go on Saturday around 7:00 pm.

This is my favorite festival in NYC. The food is amazing. What’s great? The Spanikopita is the best and my friends love the gyro platter.

The money from this festival goes to the school. The parents who work the festival are fantastic. Stop by during the weekend. If you like Greek food, you won’t be disappointed.
