Ridgite’s Dog Attacked – $20,000 Bill – GoFundMe

On December 26th, Poodle (that’s the dog’s name) was attacked by another dog on 5th Avenue and 88th Street in Bay Ridge at 6:15 pm.

The 71-year-old man, who was walking Poodle, tried to get Poodle away from the other dog. He was bit by the other dog.

The man went to the hospital for stitches. Poodle was brought to a vet in Brooklyn.

The dog had to be taken to Manhattan to have emergency surgery because he was bitten in the abdomen.

The cost was $20,000, half had to be paid before they did surgery (and half when he is discharged). A GoFundMe was set up here – they need $8,000).

Some kind business owners in the area helped provide video of the area to Poodle’s owner. She is asking for help in identifying the man or the other dog. (See here)

The other dog appears to be mostly black with white around his neck, undercarriage and paws.

Bay Ridge Suffered in 2024 Due to the “Get Mine” Mentality

Living in different areas of Brooklyn has shown me the importance of community. Corruption arises when individuals only look out for themselves. In 2024, Bay Ridge suffered due to this selfishness.

In Bay Ridge, tragic deaths occurred and were met with indifference. Aihong Qu was killed on 7th Avenue, yet not a single politician acknowledged her death or mentioned her name. (Info) This lack of care was also evident when a woman was killed on 4th Avenue in 2023. No one even said her name. (Info) In the past, candlelight vigils were held for those lost, so what has changed? It seems that the sense of community has been lost.

The City of Yes carve-out by Justin Brannan was not surprising, as he has a history of putting his own interests above the community’s. (Info)

hat was surprising, however, was the involvement of Community Board 10 in allowing this carve-out. How can members of CB 10 claim to advocate for the community, while really advocating for themselves? If CB 10 held Brannan accountable, he may have voted differently. How could they vote on this issue when they would benefit the vote? Why didn’t one of them speak out at the December meeting?

CB 10’s lack of transparency regarding the homeless shelter and high school are further examples of their selfishness towards their neighbors in 2024.

Andrew Gounardes’ silence on the Bay Ridge carve-out from the City of Yes was also not surprising, though it is worth noting that his own home was not included in the carve-out. It’s possible that Gounardes’ wife is unaware of these actions, like many other Ridgites.

Bay Ridge, your churches are struggling. It’s important to support them before it’s too late. These churches are vital parts of the community – let’s not let them falter. (Info)

Despite the challenges, Bay Ridge is still home to many good people who step up to help their neighbors, families, seniors, and animals. Organizations like Grandma’s Love rallies to help those in need. Also inspiring are the many animal lovers in this community who quickly respond with, “I’m on my way” when someone reports a hurt animal. There are examples of the community’s resilience.

Happy New Year, Bay Ridge. Let’s work towards a better 2025 for our community.

Justin Brannan’s Voter Survey Form Called “Campaign Trickeration”

Councilman Brannan posted a voter survey and a video with the voter survey.

The survey makes it look like Brannan wants to hear from residents. LOL.

On social media. Justin Brannan’s form was called “Campaign Trickeration.” Politicians ask residents for their contact information to build their database to send emails throughout their campaign.
