Why Did Cannabis Shops Choose Bay Ridge?

At the Community Board 10 Meeting this week and the Committee Meeting early this month, one fantastic CB 10 member asked a prospective shop owner who their target audience was.

I was shocked that older white women is the target audience for cannabis shops. I thought the shops chose Bay Ridge because they are cash-only businesses and they wanted a safe community (these shops can not use credit cards yet, so there are usually more robberies) .

Many articles online show that women 65+ are using cannabis for pain management and mental health.

Our community is going to be covered with as many pot shops as they can legally fit because of our greatest commodity – the women who live here.

When liquor stores request to open in a community, the Community Board can make stipulations to the New York State Liquor Authority.

The Cannabis Board in NY will not allow any stipulations. This Cannabis Board has made so many mistakes rolling out this initiative and they they think they are the experts on our community. YET the Cannabis Board failed to tell us that our community is being unfairly targeted because of the population.

Senator Andrew Gounardes voted in favor of the cannabis shops, without understanding that our community could be targeted by these shops. Gounardes did not speak out after the community board meeting when this information came out. He is to too busy playing on social media and posting photos of himself. How many photos do we need of him?

Justin Brannan Shared That Food Stamps Were Being Cut by The Government – They Are Not

It’s easy to tweet. Elected officials know they can’t quote an article without checking the source of information.

Councilman Brannan could have called someone to check before he wrote online. (See here) There are going to be real cuts that he will need to speak out against, but creating hysteria over incorrect information is ridiculous.

Brannan wouldn’t share the information about a homeless shelter in his community, but he will run to X and write this because the Democrats like playing politics online.

Another Accident on 74th Street and 14th Avenue – When Will Someone Take Action Here?

This afternoon there was an accident on 14th Avenue and 74th Street. The firefighters had to extricate the man from the car. Residents were glad the man was alright.

This corner needs a light as there are several accidents per year here. Residents say that drivers fly by the stop sign on 74th Street. It shouldn’t take a fatality to get a light.

We put a request to the NYC DOT. You can see it here. (Incident #DOT-682779-X6K1)

Minor Handcuffed on 86th Street in Bay Ridge

A high school student was handcuffed by the 68th Precinct police on 86th Street between 4th and 5th Avenue.

Many people were filming the police. One woman felt that the police did not have a reason to arrest the boy and that they had to call his mother before they could take him in.

After the cops handcuffed the boy, he threw himself on the ground. The officers put him in the back of their SUV and the boy was banging on the windows.
