December 21, 2024Staten Island Man Arrested for Bay Ridge Hit-and-Run Last November

ABC News shared that on Friday morning, 34-year-old, Joshua Joshi from Staten Island was arrested for the hit and run accident that killed Anne-Marie Wiesner on Marine Avenue on November 16, 2023. (Info)

Early this morning, ABC News shared the story. (News)
Joshi was charged with criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an incident, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and speeding, police said.
While this doesn’t bring Anne-Marie back, the neighborhood is glad that the driver was caught.
The newspaper made it a point to say that they don’t know how the police found the driver over 13 months later.
Update: Today, Saturday, December 21st, Andrew Gouanardes and Justin Brannan both took credit for it on their Facebook pages. (See here and here) Notice how neither politician thanked the police officers/detectives who solved this case!
Joshi was arrested around 7:50 am Friday. If Andrew Gounardes or Justin Brannan were connected to the investigation, they would have announced it yesterday – not today after the news did!

Neither politician mentioned the death of Aihong Qu on 7th Avenue on June 14th (Info) or ever said the name of the woman who was killed on 4th Avenue and Senator Street (Info), but they want us to believe they had something to do with this police work.

December 20, 2024Permits Filed for a Five Story High School on Ovington Avenue in Bay Ridge

The permits were filed for the new high school, a five-story high school building at 445 Ovington Avenue in Bay Ridge. It will be 94 feet high and 676 students will be able to attend. (Info here)
In May 2023, Community Board 10 voted against a high school on Ovington Avenue because School Construction Authority and Councilman Brannan were not able to answer questions about safety.
The main question was this property does not have a way for students to exit on Bay Ridge Avenue – the street has row houses (see here).
Also there are several elementary schools on this block and Ridgites were concerned how adding 500+ high school students to this street would work.

During that Summer, Brannan told residents in a private Facebook group that he proceeded with the high school, even though CB 10 voted against it.
When CB 10 returned in the Fall 2023, they announced that Brannan overrode them and that was the last time anyone mentioned the school.

December 20, 2024Townhouse 275 on 94th Street is Closing

The speakeasy on 94th Street off 3rd Avenue is closing on January 1st.

Ridgites love Tim, the bartender at this cocktail bar.
During the Fall, Townhouse 275 was hosting a few groups – a book club, a chess group and a special group. But I guess it wasn’t enough to pay the bills and make a profit.
One of the biggest problems for this place was that a lot of people don’t know this place exists in Bay Ridge.

December 20, 2024A Year After Winning the Coney Island Council Seat, Justin Brannan Opens an Office in Coney

Councilman Brannan wanted the Coney Island NYC Council seat, so when he ran for office, he told the residents he would set up an office there.
But then he forgot to do it. Recently, the residents in Coney called called him out on Facebook for not following through.
The new office is at 1915 Mermaid Avenue. (See Street view)
Brannan is only in office for one more year (actually 54 weeks left), so there was no reason to waste money on a hand-painted sign.

December 19, 2024Ride the Rolling Homeless Shelter R Train in Bay Ridge or Pay Congestion Pricing

This man is wearing a garbage bag because he is cold. He isn’t asking for help because he isn’t well.

The families of these people have no idea they are riding on the train.

Every day the R train rolls into 95th Street and no one helps these people.

Andrew Gounardes and Justin Brannan love to campaign at train stations, but they don’t want to help any of these people.

The people aren’t hiding. This man was laying on the steps at the 95th Street station and no came to assist him.

This has been going on for years.
We have the wrong people in government – they dance for lobbyists. These people have no lobbyists, but need the most help.
