Water Main Break – Water Shut Off in Bay Ridge – 77th – 80th Streets (Off 3rd Avenue)

Update: Water was turned back on tonight for these residents.

Water was shut off on 77th to 80th Streets off 3rd Avenue due to a water main break.

It could be causing this flooded basement on 78th Street:

Olives and Pita at 7720 – 3rd Avenue had to closed because there was no water.

RIP Basil Capetanakis

We were sad to hear that Basil Capentanakis died. (Info)

When we first moved to Bay Ridge, was saw Basil’s name in the newspaper all the time. He was a realtor and owned 14 Apollo Real Estate. Basil was also a civil leader. We met him in person at a celebration and he was a very pleasant man.

Basil Capetanakis served as Community Board 10 Member for 20 years and was Chair from July 1992 through June 1995.

Assemblyman Brooks-Krasny shared this:

Viewing: On Friday, December 27th at Kimisis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church 224 – 18th Street in Brooklyn from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M.

Funeral Service: Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 9:30 am at Kimisis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church 224 – 18th Street in Brooklyn.

Interment: Greenwood Cemetery at 500 25th Street, Brooklyn.

Santa on a Horse Drawn Carriage Will Be in Bay Ridge Today 12/22 – Sponsored by Super Roofer

This is one of Bay Ridge’s nicest and most unique events! Santa pulls up in a horse drawn carriage. He’s a Santa with an amazing outfit and he looks amazing in photos!

Sant will be outside of Skinflints on 79th Street and 5th Avenue starting at 12:30 pm. This is free because Bill Boshell, the Super Roofer paid for it. He does this every year and it’s beautiful!

RIP. Woman Burned Alive on the F Train in Bklyn – Update: NYPD Arrested Suspect

News 12 shared that a woman was on fire this morning around 7:30 am. This morning the news reporters stated that the woman set herself on fire. Video showed this was a malicious homicide. (News)

The Daily News wrote that a man threw a lit match at the sleeping woman on the F train. (News)

This is the man the police arrested. He used his lighter to set the woman on fire. Then he went to the train platform and watched the woman burn:

Teenagers saw the man and called the police to provide his location. The NYPD went to the train and arrested Sebastian Zapeta on the train.

Firefighters put out the flames. The woman was pronounced dead at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue subway station platform.

How awful can someone be? One NY’er filmed the woman burning. No one took off their coat and tried to help put out the fire.

RIP. She’s with God now.

Around 3:20 pm, Governor Kathy Hochul shared her selfies and said she made the subway safer for millions of people.

During the MTA”s announcement about this woman’s murder, the MTA’s head of security praised Kathy Hochul and the head of the MTA.

Max Funland Opened on 39th Street and 8th Avenue in Brooklyn

People have been waiting for Max Funland at 3901 – 8th Avenue in Brooklyn to open for a long time. It opens today, December 22nd at 11:00 am and closes at 10:00 pm. 646-423-9863

Max Funland has a ball pit, a foam pit, trampoline, climbing slide, VR games, over 100 arcade games and a 6D theater (see the video below as this family shows what happens.)

They have a deal for today – spend $100 get a $20 game card.

Have You Seen the Stockings Hanging In Bay Ridge Bars and Coffee Shops Too?

When I first saw the stockings, there was just a few. I thought they were made for the employees.

When we were out yesterday, the bartender explained that they were Stockings for a Cause. (Info on Stocking for a Cause)

Michael Gaynor was US Specialist in the Army in Iraq fourteen years ago. He was seriously injured and is now a paraplegic.

Tower to Tunnels and Stockings for a Cause are teaming up to make Michael a home that he can get around easily.

The stockings are $25 – you decorate and hang them in the bars or Cafe Caffe coffee shop. This is fun to do with friends while you are getting a drink.

If you have never seen Totoro, it may be because you don’t watch Japanese anime. Totoro is a combination of a racoon dog, owl, cat and bear.
