June 11, 2017Fort Hamilton High School is Closed Until January – Swimming Classes this Summer
The pool at Fort Hamilton High School is closed until January for renovations. BRAINS Swimming is on hiatus until the pool opens again.
There are other swim classes this Summer for children in the area.
1) Poly Prep Swimming Classes
2) Camp Olympia has a Summer Camp with 3 days of Swimming instruction. They also offer private lessons at your pool for $45 a half an hour. [email protected]
3) Take Me to the Water Swimming at the Berkley Carroll has group and private classes
4) Imagine Swimming – $45 for 45 minutes
5) Matchpoint has swim lessons with Stephanie
6) Swim Academy at Marks JCHB
7) Horizon Swimming used to use the Fort Hamilton HS Pool is now going to use the Tilden High School Pool on Kings Highway and East 58th Street. Classes meet twice a week and were $400-$500

Kingsborough Community College – Tuesday or Wednesday for 2 hours a week during the Summer $90
Camp Olympia we have classes for adults Saturdays at John Jay High School and Sundays at Erasmus Hall 911 Flatbush Avenue

June 11, 2017Bay Ridge Car Incident – Bath Avenue – Shots Fired – No One Hurt
In Bay Ridge, yesterday morning a little after 10 am, a senior citizen drove her car onto the sidewalk. Police were assisting her in getting back on the street. When we saw it, her car was perpendicular to the street. Take it easy out there!
Right before 4 pm yesterday, in an apartment on Bay 16th and Bath Avenue one man shot at another. Thankfully he had bad aim and no one was injured and a suspect was arrested. Police were all over the area.

Family-friendly, interactive concert featuring songs in the many languages spoken in our member’s families. Following the concert, kids enjoy face painting, rock painting, and refreshments.
Admission is by suggested donation of $10 per family. Funds raised benefit Children In Need Haitian Project (http://www.cinhp.org/).

June 10, 2017El-Yateem and The Grant That Didn’t Do Anything
Recently, I found Khader El-Yateem writing about a grant that he secured. Reverend El-Yateem didn’t mention being in a group that “secured the grant,” he wrote that HE SECURED IT.
The grant was for HUD housing for Bay Ridge Seniors and Families.
El-Yateem said that board members didn’t want that type of housing because it would lower home values. El-Yateem didn’t mention where this HUD low income housing was going, but surely it wasn’t going next to his home in Dyker Heights. It’s strange that he found it weird that middle class families would think it was okay to throw low income housing next to their homes, but not his.
Here’s the important part: What happened to the grant? Did El-Yateem just let the issue go? Why didn’t El-Yateem use the leadership he claims to have and “secure” a new site in the area?
If a grant was “secured,” it wouldn’t just dissipate.
Something just isn’t right here. This is just like when El-Yateem presented the Bay Ridge Breakfast Club as much more than a once a year breakfast club.
When people say that affordable housing is not in Bay Ridge, they are just not informed. Over the years, apartment buildings have been changed to SRO’s and are on our blocks (well on our block). When you hear police sirens in the Summer and have no idea why you keep hearing them, it’s because someone called them to the SRO because people in the SRO are fighting with each other.

June 8, 2017Marty Golden Shows He Isn’t the Man Many People Think He Is AND Neither is John Quaglione
You know politicians are low when they try to insult others and then hide it. Senator Marty Golden was caught sinking to another low insulting Justin Brannan.
John Quaglione didn’t intervene and say, “Boss, Let’s keep to the issues of this race.” Quaglione was silent as his boss acted like an idiot. If Quaglione were a better man, he would have spoken up.
Golden has been a politician for years and doesn’t know how to be appropriate. Even kissing the blarney stone in Ireland can’t bring common sense to those who have none. Even the NY Post picked up the story.
Why did Golden go after Justin? Because Justin keeps current with the bills Marty pushes and Justin doesn’t stay silent when Golden is doing the wrong thing. Justin has been a leader in this community for years and Marty knows Bay Ridge loves Justin Brannan! Marty Golden should be honest about his staffer – you can read our experience with John Quaglione here.
Finally, Golden thought the reporter, Julianna Cuba would heed his warning and not print what she heard, but Cuba would rather print the news so we can know the real Marty Golden.
Update: June 12th – Liam McCabe tried to capitalize on this by writing a message about the incident and Quaglione’s failure to speak out about it.
Quaglione is so ridiculous that he posted Liam’s message on his Facebook page and his followers liked it – even though it highlighted Liam and insulted Quaglione.

Fantastic Bagel closed by the Department of Health. If you can’t figure out where this bagel shop is, it’s next to Pho Hoai on 4th Avenue between 86th Street and 87th Street. It’s 3 stores away from 86th Street Noodle.
