Danny Fitzpatrick’s Parents on Long Island Medium

Danny Fitzpatrick attended school in Bay Ridge. I’m sure you remember seeing his story on the cover of the newspapers. Daniel took his life after being bullied extensively.

Danny’s parents went on The Long Island Medium television show and hopefully they will find some peace. (See video here)

The Fitzpatrick’s are trying to help others dealing with bullying

Paint Rocks at St Andrew’s on 4/22

Rock Painting after all masses at St. Andrew’s Church – Kiernn Hall. The Parish is creating a Peace Rock Garden!

The rocks you decorate will help make the “Peace Rocks!” Garden – Rocks, markers, paints and brushes will be supplied –

Bring a smock or tee shirt to protect clothing.   Write a peace-filled quote  or create a one-of-a–kind design; or follow a sample design; or just colorfully paint the rock – YOU CAN DO THIS!

The rock garden will be located in the space between the main church steps and the Parish House so we will be able to see it every time you come to church to remind us of our mission to create a peaceful world.

If you would like to help with this activity contact Christine  at 917-589-5104 or [email protected]

Strange Tweet about Omar Vaid

Weird Tweet Today:

A man that spoke with Omar Vaid on the phone today thinks that Vaid is a veteran. No,  Vaid is not a veteran, but two of the other candidates running in our election are veterans: Mike DeVito and Max Rose – I bet they will be so annoyed when they see that tweet.

Mike DeVito has a picture with Vaid on his Instagram so it’s obvious they know each other. (Remove knife from back)

How does someone give another person the idea they fought in war without being in the military? Omar corrected the man, but he had to because tweets are public and he knew someone would catch that. Here’s the problem – there were 5 retweets and 23 likes on it so people are going to believe this is true.

Yesterday, I also saw someone say something untrue about Omar Vaid on Twitter and Vaid did not correct it. Kadia Goba reported that Omar was bolstered through social media, but it’s ridiculous in only two days I have seen this.

Omar Vaid’s filing for April 15, 2018 was strange – see here.

The man tweeted an apology and said that he was multitasking:

This is the New York 11 Democratic Voter’s Guide. Fight Back Bay Ridge (see here) put it together and it really is a great way to see which candidates match what you believe.  Omar Vaid chose not to participate in it, even though it was open to all and free. I can’t figure out why he didn’t want to participate in it.

Ross Barkan is Good for Bay Ridge Businesses

Ross Barkan called Senator Golden out for his failure to meet with a Bay Ridge resident and discuss money for schools in Bay Ridge. Senator Golden’s staff scheduled an appointment, cancelled it and has not rescheduled it.

Barkan is ready to listen to constituents REGULARLY.  While a resident couldn’t get a meeting with Senator Golden,  Ross Barkan wants to open up the lines of communication and hold meetups in local places. He realizes that it is important to be accessible to residents.

Barkan’s plan is also a great way to help our local businesses! We can all see Merchant’s Avenues are suffering. Why hasn’t Senator Golden ever done anything like this to help local businesses on 3rd or 5th Avenue?

On Wednesday, May 18th, Ross Barkan will be at Coffee RX 6903 – 3rd Avenue from 3:00 – 5:00 pm . Don’t worry if you miss this one, he will be doing more.

One of the most important tweets from Barkan was this one that I saw today:

My husband and I have great healthcare. If we didn’t, we would have been pushed into debt by bills last year when Lee had stomach cancer. A one day operation and a week in the hospital was paid entirely by his healthcare – over $70,000.  What would someone who didn’t have healthcare have done? No one should be put in this position.

Andrew Gounardes has also called out Senator Golden many times for failing Bay Ridge.

68th Precinct and 311 Calls

Last night Community Board 10 met and they discussed some local issues – see here.

One thing really stood out as a problem to me and I see this as a reoccurring issue. Residents are reporting problems to 311 and the calls aren’t being handled by the precinct.  We have a new captain at the 68th Precinct, but there has been no change.

Community Board 10 said that there were 115 noise calls to 311 about one local establishment in Bay Ridge. Sometimes there were multiple calls per evening. At some point the 68th Precinct needs to put that place on notice and have an officer stop in regularly to ticket the place if it isn’t in compliance.

There is a disconnect between the community and the police. And it’s not on the resident’s side. Laws aren’t being enforced for many things……except parking – there are way to many ticket agents in the area – we need law enforcement agents!

What’s worse is that Community Board 10 didn’t know about this situation and they described it as it going “under the radar.”

We have a Community Affairs Officer who didn’t seem to have any answers at the meeting (see here). Why didn’t the Community Affairs officer bring up this establishment to Community Board 10. Why hasn’t this Community Affairs officer met with the neighbors of the establishment and made a plan for them, so that the owners of the business are respecting their neighbors?   Community Board 10 shouldn’t have to work this hard if the 68th Precinct was supporting the community.   I have seen this officer not be professional – we need a new community affairs officer.

Do we have to start a cheesy petition in Bay Ridge to get some help?   I can tell you there are very few people in Bay Ridge who wouldn’t sign the petition.  We want to be able to count on the police when we call 911 or 311.  Residents are angry and if we are reporting what we see (as we have been asked to do), we need the NYPD to respond.

Mural Being Painted in Bay Ridge

Video by Carl Calt

The Department of Transportation and Xaverian High School have partnered together to have a mural entitled  “Diversity”  painted on the bridge wall on Bay Ridge Avenue on Shore Road (under the Belt Parkway) – it’s at the entrance of the 69th pier.   They have had request for murals on the opposite wall and will be working on that.

The mural is the creation of Patrick Matthews, Xaverian art teacher.

This mural will be paint by Xaverian students from April 14th – May 4th

Omar Vaid’s Filing – Strange

First, Omar Vaid’s filing dated April 15, 2018 has a Williamsburg address on it.

On Twitter, several people who support Omar Vaid have stated that he lives here in Bay Ridge. Many of these don’t live in NY state.

From this filing, the numbers don’t seem to match what Vaid is stating on Twitter. How could the money he collected be that low? It’s actually a very strange filing. – check it out here

Didn’t Omar check the filing before he submitted it?
