December 11, 2018Preparing for a School at Angel Guardian Home
There was a meeting tonight at PS 176. Radio Free Brooklyn tweeted about the new school that is going to be build on the property of the former Angel Guardian Home. (See here)

There is a need for a school in the area because local schools are overcrowded (one woman talked about her daughter having lunch at 9:30 am). The school is going to be for 676 elementary school children. The building is going to be 24k square feet.
Of course dropping off children and parking is of concern to everyone in the area because there are many schools in the area:
When residents asked why a charter school wasn’t being placed in the area, they were told that “there are no failing schools in District 20.” Initial reports revealed that a charter school was interested in opening there.
A building is going be erected where there isn’t currently a building (between 63rd and 64th Street – closer to 13th Avenue)- see pic below

The comment period will be until January 24, 2019 for this particular project. After comments, it will be discussed/approved by City Council and then the Mayor’s office.
I’m glad that RadioFree Bay Ridge is hyperlocal so we get the news fast.
RadioFree Bay Ridge will be sharing the audio to the meeting here soon.

December 11, 2018Brannan & Deutch Bill to Red Line Curbs Uncertain Areas
Councilmen Brannan and Deutch (and others) put together a bill to paint a red line on curbs around hydrants and bus stops, so people know where they can legally park.
Often drivers have received tickets because they are too close to the hydrant or in the bus zone, so this is a good idea! But not everyone thinks so.

December 10, 2018Angel Guardian Home to Become an Elementary School
I was glad to hear that Angel Guardian home will become a public elementary school.
Angel Guardian Home is on 12th Avenue between 63rd and 64th Street. It was sold in August for 37.5 milion (see here)
After a long wait, the new property owner talked about using the huge lot for various uses for the property. Initially there was talk of a charter school opening there. Marty Golden supported a charter school, while other leaders knew a public school was needed to match the area’s population.
I was happy to hear from Councilman Brannan tonight that a new pubic elementary school will be opening there.
Tomorrow night – December 11th, the community board will have a public meeting with the School Construction Authority to introduce the project at PS 176 1225 Bay Ridge Avenue (off 12th Avenue) at 6:00 pm. It’s weird that they are having the meeting

December 10, 2018Capano Departs from Gounardes’ Transition Team
![]()
Bob Capano, Chairman of the Reform Party left Senator-elect Andrew Gounardes’ transition team.
How odd! #SomethingIsn’tRightHere
Journalist, Kadia Goba reported all angles of this story, yet something seems to be missing.
![]()
As Chairman of the Reform Party, Capano endorsed Andrew Gounardes over Marty Golden (Capano also endorsed Brannan last November). Bob Capano did the right thing for Bay Ridge as Marty Golden will be leaving office in a few short weeks. Andrew Gounardes asked Capano to be on the team and he accepted.
Kadia Goba’s article makes it seem that Capano left Gounardes Team because of something from the November 2017 election. That can’t be! Why would he have been asked to be on the team if he did something last year that someone was holding a grudge about. No one would hang onto the past like that….it’s gotta be something else….something else. Afterall, Capano was on the winning team’s side.
A tiger can’t change his stripes, but Capano definately became a little less Conservative when he endorsed two Progressive Democrats in Bay Ridge. In mid-December 2017, Warren Chan was asked to leave Councilman Brannan’s team because he was completely inappropriate.
