Chuck Otey Bashes Gounardes Before He’s Even Taken Office

Chuck Otey filled the role of the Grinch this year. Otey is the executive editor of The Home Reporter, a paper which misses a lot of news that happens here in Bay Ridge. Otey endorsed his friend Marty Golden in the paper, while the neighborhood voted for Andrew Gounardes.  #OutOfTouch

This week Chuch Otey wrote this about Andrew Gounardes:

Everyone knows Andrew Gounardes is a nice guy – that’s undeniable.  Chuck Otey doesn’t know if Gounardes is a good attorney or not, so it’s weird that he wrote that. Right after that, Chuck Otey shows he is just a mean man and implying that Gounardes can’t be better than Golden. Gounardes hasn’t even started and Chuck Otey thinks it is okay to insult him.  No one would say that to someone taking a new job, so why would any editor write that in the newspaper?

Why would the Home Reporter be so disrespectful to the people’s Senator?

It’s fine if Chuck Otey wants to reminisce about Marty Golden from years ago:

But the jig is up Chuck. The people voted Golden out because his leadership changed.

We will be living here in Bay Ridge for ten years in August. We didn’t experience the same Marty Golden that Chuck Otey wrote about. For us, we found that Marty Golden didn’t feel he needed to answer to residents. We didn’t find Golden to be helpful to anyone we knew. Golden even avoided speaking to some residents because they knew how little he did and he didn’t want to own it.

As time went on, especially this year, we saw that Golden thought he was above the law.  I  was glad Marty was so bold about that on video.  Most people were shocked to see the Senator speaking the way he did AND sharing the videos on his own Facebook page. It made it easy for people to vote him out.

Chuck Otey wrote about Marty Golden and Larry Moorish meeting with members of the Muslim community. Moorish died in 2016, so maybe the connection he made  in the community was more important than Golden realize. Otey wrote:

Marty Golden, as the senator was not respectful to the Muslim community. On The Brian Leher show, Marty Golden was very rude. Golden said the 9/11 bomber lived in Bay Ridge which wasn’t true. Imagine being a Muslim here and hearing Senator Golden say that?

There there was the time Marty Golden said immigrants don’t vote. Yalla was ready for Senator Golden. Mr. Otey probably didn’t realize the power of  Yalla. Yalla is composed of residents who just want what everyone wants – fairness.   They aren’t a picture-taking, press-releasing group, but they have power and that played a part in this election that very few realized.  ; )   In May 2018, I knew they would Rock the Vote.

After the election,Yalla showed a video of Marty Golden going to ask for their vote. Somia Elrowmeim, co-vice president of Yalla Brooklyn, let Golden know that Yalla would be voting….him out.  She was very polite, but Elrowmeim worked hard to let the community know it was time for Marty to go.

Chuck Otey, I want to thank you for doing your part to help Marty Golden lose. I knew Golden was corrupt as soon as I found out he gave tax breaks to developers in Manhattan (although you thought that was okay and never wrote about it).  Residents here were shocked that our local papers wouldn’t report on something THAT BIG. While in other elections, the paper was well-respected, by the time the election came, local papers had lost the respect of residents.

Right before the election, I saw Golden had rented a pickup truck to blare his name throughout the neighborhood. When I saw the truck, I knew Golden had lost the election.  Golden was so disconnected from the community, he didn’t realize that this was just annoying people….and reminding them to vote him out!

Chuck Otey – you and I both know Andrew Gounardes is going to be an amazing Senator. He won’t be perfect because we are all human. We know he is a good person who loves Bay Ridge and will do the right thing for everyone. Even though you are feeling Grinchy, I can tell you that the community is very excited for new leadership. Don’t get on Andrew’s back about petty things like tree lightnings and egg hunts; support the senator because he wants to help everyone in the community. When you disagree, let him know…Andrew is very open and is listening to people.

Finally, Happy New Year Chuck Otey!  Standing by your friends is one thing. Don’t waste your time with nonsense – by now you should know you can’t raise one man up by insulting another…..not even publicly in a newspaper. Be well and use your words wisely.

Justin Brannan Christmas

Councilman Brannan’s window is really cute!

While I don’t usually like pictures of politicians, I love this one because he “did something.”  Adding to the beauty of the Avenue is always appreciated.
