Assemblywoman Frontus and Kings County Politics….What’s Up With KCP?

When we elected Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus to be our representative, we chose her to represent our community’s best interest.

Sometimes national issues hit city or state legislatures – but really they shouldn’t because NY has enough issues to deal with in our state.

The BDS movement wants the US to boycott products from Israel until Palestine’s control over the land is restored. BDS was an issue that NYC Council voted on in 2016.  It was a heated and televised debate as their were a several Jewish Councilmen who were terse towards a very passionate audience who just wanted to be heard.

Israel is an ally of the United States and unless that has change, all elected representatives should be supporting that. I can’t stand when NY representatives want to push national/international issues when we have so many problems here to deal with. Dr. Frontus said she Supports  the NYS Assembly’s Anti-BDS Legislation….and we agree with that.

Kings County Politics Blog must be having a slow day and are looking for clicks. They love to write about Mathylde Frontus, but it’s always in a questioning light.  WHY KCP?

Mathylde Frontus was elected by the people and we know she will always be doing  what is right and fair.

Volunteer at Fab Scrap in Sunset Park

Have you heard of Fab Scrap?

It’s a warehouse with commercial fabric leftovers for sale – essentially, its a huge fabric store in our backyard – it’s in Sunset Park.  You can buy online or go there to shop!

If you like recycling and fabric, you will love Fab Scrap.  Volunteers receive five pounds of fabric for after volunteering (after the 5 pounds, they can purchase material at the student rate of $3 a pound).

FABSCRAP is an organization which provides convenient pickup and recycling of commercial textile waste and fabric scraps from the design, fashion, and entertainment industries in New York City.

Fabscrap volunteers organized around 2,000 lbs of fabric each week in 2018.

Fabscrap is located in the Brooklyn Army Terminal at 140 58th Street Building B, Unit 5H-4, Brooklyn, NY 11220

You can sign up to volunteer at Fabscrap here.

Muslim Community Patrol in Bay Ridge

The NY Post has an article about the Muslim Community Patrol – MCP. This vehicle was seen in Bay Ridge last week.

Here’s the thing: We have so many ways for people to communicate – Why is a newspaper telling us about the car? Why isn’t the NYPD, specifically all the NCO’s that are now part of the 68th Precinct?  Wait….where are those NCO’s – they were supposed to be like beat cops walking around, but there has only been two sightings of them a few months ago when the program began.

Back to the MCP cars – Why do they look like NYPD cars?  In Borough Park,  the Shomrim have similiar cars.  On 8th Avenue, the Asian community also has a similiar vehicle for security and it has emergency lights. These are all private patrol cars. Volunteers driving these cars go through a background check and some training by NYPD. So the NYPD knows that these cars look like theirs. This isn’t anything new to NYC, except it’s support/safety for the Muslim community. Should any of these private patrol cars use the NYPD colors? We don’t think so.

The Shomrim were considered security in Borough Park and the volunteers didn’t pull people over or approach anyone – even when there was an accident. They were respectful and they were present to offer support to the Jewish community. The Shomrim don’t interact with the rest of the community – they aren’t being rude or dismissive – it’s just how it is. These private security groups are unarmed and don’t have the authority to stop or detain anyone.

I’m all for more security, but it would be nice for someone to say: “Bay Ridge meet the new neighborhood security” rather than see a picture on social media and be surprised.  It would also be good for someone to tell us if the mosque in Bay Ridge is receiving more threats. Something must have changed that more security than the NCO’s is needed. All residents should be made aware of any changes in the neighborhood.

Councilman Brannan Spotted at St. Pats on Xmas Eve

Council Justin Brannan and His Mother at Midnight Mass St. Patricks December 24, 2018

Councilman Justin Brannan and his Mother attended Christmas Eve Mass at St. Patrick’s Church in Manhattan. We saw him on television and then saw his Facebook confirmed it.

A few rows back from The Brannans is Rita Cosby, a news anchor from Inside Edition can be seen in a red jacket. Four rows in front of the Councilman, John Catsimatidis (owner of Gristedes Grocery Store) can be seen praying with his family (he’s next to the PIX 11 logo in the bottom right of the screen). So cool!

We think there is one other well known person in the photo too, but we are unsure at this time.
