Will the Golden Faction Make Ulrich Lose?

Eric Ulrich is a Republican City Councilman from Queens. He is running for Public Advocate. Ulrich is  known as a moderate Republican and he doesn’t ride the Trump train.

Eric Ulrich is having a fundraiser on January 9th at the Dyker Beach Golf Course. The Golden faction of the Republican Party looks like it is supporting Ulrich’s run.

It was first believed that Ulrich was being supported by his former college classmate, Liam McCabe. McCabe has a following in the neighborhood because he ran a decent campaign and his campaign money was on point. Yet, Marty Golden didn’t support McCabe’s run. Why didn’t McCabe just run the event with the district leaders?

Ulrich and Nicole Malliotakis have a feud that has been going on for awhile. Most of the Republicans on the invitation have been supported or supported Malliotakis.

Did someone forget that Marty Golden was a 16-year incumbent who lost because people didn’t want that type of politics for their community? 

Two of the politicians listed on the invitation received money from developers during their campaigns, so residents here wouldn’t be interested in Ulrich upon seeing those names.  *The distrust for the Republican Party here is high by home owners.  See here and see video at 1:35 – 1:37

There are a few thousand Republicans in Brooklyn and few factions of Republicans – why did Ulrich go with this group? 

I don’t get politics…maybe it’s Golden’s plan for Ulrich to lose so his friend, Nicole Malliotakis will be happy. Malliotakis was supported by Sliwa, but Marty Golden was not, so maybe this is just a revenge endorsement? (Remember the Reform Party said Golden could primary Gounardes for the Reform Party line, but Golden refused).

Mezcal’s in Bay Ridge Closed

We didn’t notice that Mezcal’s Mexican Restaurant at 7508 – 3rd Avenue closed (next to Bagel Schmagel or across the street from Salty Dog).

We just thought the sign was down or the property was for sale. The property is for rent for $6,500 a month – see here (that is so high)

The sign on the door shows it was closed by The Department of Health for operating without a permit.

Politics is Funny Once in Awhile….

When I logged into Twitter, I saw the above message and I laughed.

Then I went to check the profile to see if it was a troll account – because I thought it was!

The account was made by someone being good-natured and funny. (See here) Apparently the beard is running for Public Advocate….might as well – everyone else is!

Soldiers from Bay Ridge Serving in the Military

I noticed Saint Anselm lists the same four soldiers in their bulletin every few months and reminds people to pray for them as they are away in the war:

It’s strange that a local paper doesn’t profile them. I couldn’t find any info about them online either. But I want to know more about them.

Al Bought the Last Hotdog at Nathan’s

Al bought the last hotdog at Nathan’s in Bay Ridge. His claim to fame is he was the last customer at this location!

On January 6th, Nathan’s in Bay Ridge closed it’s doors after four decades here. See other Brooklynites enjoying their last day at Nathan’s in Bay Ridge here (The reporter states that Nathan’s is looking for a new location in the neighborhood).

The property was recently purchased for $12.25 million by 660 86 LLC.

RIP Steven Pollard, Brooklyn Fireman

Funeral arrangements here – light a candle here

First we saw the news that a Brooklyn fireman was seriously hurt while responding to a car accident near the Belt Parkway’s new Mill Basin Bridge. See story here and here.

Then we saw that he was being taken to Kings County Hospital and the Mayor was going there to see him.

 

But soon after the NYC Scanner revealed that the fireman died from falling off the bridge. Firefighter Pollard  slipped through a gap in the roadway and fell to the ground approximately 50 feet below.

He was only 30 years old.

RIP.   Prayers for Steve Pollard’s family. His father is a retired FDNY and his brother is also a fireman.

And for Fireman Pollard’s girlfriend.

RIP.

Bay Ridge Ballet for Boys

Besides Bay Ridge Ballet having ballet for boys, this business owner’s plan is one that other businesses that are starting out may want to copy. 

Whenever I see pictures from her ballet school, I always smile because I know how hard she worked to make her dance school dream reality.

Everyone sees Ms. Patty, the proprieter having her business at 127 Bay Ridge Ave Bay Ridge Avenue now, but she started out small in the basement of an old church. From there she built her dance studio’s reputation as parents began to share their child’s positive experiences at the school and the Summer program.

Congressman Rose Declares Pier 76 as the Finest Pizza in Staten Island

What does a Staten Island Congressman do after one of the biggest events of life?

Yesterday, Congressman Max Rose went to his inauguration ceremony (see here, here and video here) and then he went to get a slice of the finest pizza in Staten Island.

Residents asked what place Rose went to, but most figured out that he was at Pier 76. (Tweet here)

Bay Ridge Crime Statistics Tweaked to Be Storybook Perfect

Crime statistics came out and Mayor de Blasio and his minions rejoiced. The local paper, The Brooklyn Reporter shared the  report. The reporter, Jaime DeJesus doesn’t live in Bay Ridge. You will see no residents were interviewed for the story.  This is how the wool is pulled over the community’s eyes. 

You and I know what’s up. 

Bay Ridge crime statistics are skewed, twisted or under-reported on purpose. If crime was reported honestly here, then we would have a problem. If there is a problem, then people need to work on it and……no one wants to do work.

Real information:

On August 25th, there was an attempted rape in Bay Ridge on 90th Street.  A 27-year-old woman was thrown on the ground, her clothes ripped off and the man sexually assaulted her. A good Samaritan stopped the rape. Story here

The 68th Precinct officers reported this as a date rape….meaning it was down-graded to an assault and no one had to do anything because it’s two people who knew each other and they almost had sex on a date. (Yeah apparently rape isn’t rape according to the NYPD since date rape has a lower category).

Now here’s where we KNOW a problem exists in the 68th Precinct:  The police officers who made the report had to turn it in to a supervisor (a Sargent, a lieutenant or a Captain – someone had to read that report).  If it was “date rape” then the woman would have told the police officers the rapist’s name and it would be in the report. The victim didn’t know his name, so how did that go unnoticed by supervisors? (There are at least three NYPD officers in the 68th Precinct who knew this was rape from the start – the two officers on duty and their supervisor).

The victim didn’t know her attacker. How the heck could any NYPD officer have gotten that fact incorrect? That NYPD officer still works in our district because no one investigated, as the situation was swept away like it never happened.

YES, we were told it was going to be looked into, but it was quickly forgotten about.   

No one wants to question the NYPD in Bay Ridge because questioners are called cop-haters here.  Nicole Malliotakis’  staffer called me this for questioning the NYPD in the area where I live.  Malliotakis is an assembly representative who doesn’t live in Bay Ridge, so she doesn’t care. In a few years, she won’t even part of this community, so it doesn’t matter to her.  Marty Golden didn’t question the police because he was a NYPD officer. 

For years, I have written about the NYPD at Fort Snooze, even when I had a friend working in the precinct. I grew up in Sunset Park with many friends who became police officers. I support the death penalty for cop killers, so no one needs to tell me who I am – especially not a political hack.

Residents here will tell you that their calls to the 68th Precinct go unanswered, calls to 311 are closed with no NYPD response, 311 calls are reported as answered even when nothing has happened (see here and here),  some officers discourage residents from making reports or simply will NOT take a report (see here).

The NYPD knows that no one follows up with 311 calls, so they don’t care. Most people just accept that their call is closed. I had to open one call about four times…no one contacted me from the city to ask about what happened. 

Last year, we learned that residents reported 32 noise complaints about a restaurant, yet the owner of the restaurant said in front of everyone including the NYPD officer that represents this community that he had only heard of one or two complaints (see here – video too) 

Last January, I shared that Compstats had changed for this area….one month they were one number and the following month, the number was tweaked see here.  Whose tweaking the 68th Precinct’s statistics? 

Accepting statistics has become the norm. It makes people happy to say crime is down.

Our area should be covered with beat cops walking around Bay Ridge because we are part of the community policing program.  Has anyone seen them or did the NYPD  just hire more police officers to sit in the precinct or lend out to other districts? The only  officer I ever see in Bay Ridge is the one that’s on the horse. Where are the NCO’s?
