Cocoa Grinder, I Love You, But Not Your Awning

What’s with the weird awning and weird message, Cocoa Grinder?

I thought we were going to be good friends CG (Cocoa Grinder). You have good coffee and salads.
I find myself missing The Coop even more after seeing your new awning.

WHAT GIVES?

At the other Cocoa Grinder’s locations, you have beautiful store fronts. Neither has a bright yellow awning – they are so charming. If you needed an awning due to the sun, why didn’t you pick a beautiful awning like Pier 69 Market (see here)?

I don’t like the drawn out words on the awning…they aren’t cheeky or cute. Although I do like that it is a co-working space because many people need that. The long drawn out letters reminds me of The Beeeeeer Store with the weird message :(

When The Coop move in, i remember they put out huge pots of flowers to let us know they arrived and they were going to add to the beauty of the neighborhood.  C’mon CG.

Protest Outside of Brooklyn Prison at 1:00 PM

Brooklyn residents will be protesting outside of the Metropolitan Detention Center (prison) on 29th Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn today.
See Councilman Brannan’s video
They need heat, hot water, their medicine and lights OR move them to a l0cation where their basic needs can be met.
Both the prisoners and those who have been working there are being mistreated.
Bay Ridge for Social Justice, FBBR (Fight Back Bay Ridge), Yalla, Solidarity Space and others are organizing the event. See info

Fastelavn in Bay Ridge – February 23rd

Fastelavn is the Danish version of Mardi Gras.

On Saturday, February 23rd there will be a Fastelavn Celebration at Vesuvio’s Restaurant – 7305 – Third Avenue from 1:00- 5:00 pm. (Private Back Room)
Dress in costume, decorate spring branches, hit the barrel, eat special cream buns for dessert& be part of this wonderful tradition.
Music by Ellen Lindstrom – The Swedish Meatball
Sponsored by Scandinavian East Coast Museum

Another Republican Bails….Tired of Politics

The Brooklyn Republican Party flat-lined.
Existing members see those in leadership aren’t the ones who will make the party strong again, so they are bailing.

By the way, this woman did a lot of work for the Republican Party. She was authentic and the real deal. This young woman tried to support her party, but she encountered too much corruption and problems. Those in the party know it too. Now they are referring to her as a kid or teen (one of them called her a “girl”). Just an FYI, she may have just turned 18, but she has been a woman standing up and doing the right thing for a long time! She had more maturity than most of the Republicans she represented, so they shouldn’t go there and dismiss what she said:
“I have witnessed the GOP being controlled by outside parties, backroom deals being made, and most importantly, good people be corrupted. This is why I got out, and to anyone involved in local GOP politics in NYC I suggest that you get out as well. ”
Outside parties: Jerrrrrryyyyy! She was too polite to name him. LOL
Backroom deals: This one must have stung, as she really respected one of the candidates involved in this.
Good people being corrupted: The candidates who took $$ from developers/received aid from PACs.   She saw the writing on the wall – those people want to be district leaders now. It’s a non-ending cycle, so she bailed.
Everyone whose a decent person, regardless of party, respects her for bailing.
She’ll come back when she is ready to run. If she stayed, she would just be labeled by the corruption.

Inhumane Treatment of Prisoners in Brooklyn

On 29th Street in Brooklyn is a federal prison. Since Sunday, prisoners have been living in the dark and freezing cold prison without being allowed visitors. See daytime video

The sound of the inmates knocking on the windows with flashing lights is chilling.

The jail isn’t in Brannan’s district, but he’s a good person and he went to help.
This prison is in Carlos Menchaca’s district. I saw Menchaca retweeting Nydia Velasquez, but Menchaca is not in the video with the other politician s at the jail.

How was this treatment allowed to go on for so long?
Tonight, we know they were given hot meals, some heat and electricity has been restored in part of the prison. See here
Some people are still in the dark. At midnight, they were still signaling – see here
Prisoners need to see their family and friends, even if the prison has to do it one visitor at a time for safety.

Why Did Storobin Publish An Article About Sap?

Bklyner revealed that David Storobin owns the Shore Front News website. (Kadia Goba’s article)
ShoreFront News published an article implying that Steve Saperstein may be switching parties to make another run for government. The final sentence in the article states that  Steve Saperstein had no comment. That ending is a bit telling. Because if someone is asked about their party, they are usually proud to discuss it. If someone asked Saperstein if he was changing parties, he should have been able to say confidently, “No way.”

Some Republicans have said the article isn’t true. Why did Storobin write the article? Is Storobin thinking of making a future run for NYC Council and concerned that Saperstein would be his opponent? Or is Storobin supporting someone who is thinking of running for the seat?
As a Republican, it’s strange that he would publish an article about another Republican. The head of the Republican Party probably needs to do something here. LOL, yeah that won’t happen.

Saperstein lost both a city council election and the Assembly election. In the last election, he lost by a lot – 2927 votes (source) After two failed elections, Saperstein knows that the people aren’t interested in his type of leadership (Pro tip: No one wanted to see the local pols naked – yes that was Steve Saperstein’s idea – see here). The Democrats wouldn’t accept someone who was so far to the right. Steve didn’t run as a moderate Republican. Plus his acceptance of developer money would make him a liability to whatever party he ran for.

Dyker Heights Student Hit by Car on the Way to School
I bet you are thinking it was a crazy driver not paying attention.
Nope.
Senator Gounardes wrote: I just spoke to the 68th Precinct. The child was crossing against the light with his mother and a car grazed him. He fell to the ground, got back up, and went to school. Police were called as a precaution. Boy will be fine, according to the police.
Don’t sit there judging the boy’s mother. She crossed him against the light because she was trying to get him to school on this VERY COLD day. She was probably rushing so he could get to school quicker. The car grazed him….and his mother sent him to school because it wasn’t a big deal.
Brooklyn kids are tough and everybody’s mama knows it!

Snow Squall in Bay Ridge….Just a White Out.

The news loves being dramatic and saying we had a snow squall. It was just a regular white out…..it’s been called a white out for years. In the above picture is the regular snow storm. Below is the snow squall or whiteout where visibility is low.

It’s just cold, but nothing we haven’t seen many times before.
