Snow Squall in Bay Ridge….Just a White Out.
The news loves being dramatic and saying we had a snow squall. It was just a regular white out…..it’s been called a white out for years. In the above picture is the regular snow storm. Below is the snow squall or whiteout where visibility is low.
It’s just cold, but nothing we haven’t seen many times before.

January 30, 2019RIP Joe Hynes
Charles Hynes was the Brooklyn District Attorney during most of my life. Although, I didn’t pay attention to politics back then, newspapers printed great stories about Hynes and the programs he was running.
In 2008, I made an appointment to speak to Hynes because of neighbor to my family’s business needed help. She was a victim of predatory lending. Hynes was informative and helpful. He seemed genuinely concerned and sympathetic. Hynes had his office staff contact the neighbor to assist her. And after they helped her, Hynes’ called me to tell me what they did.
I’m sorry his career ended in such a negative way. No one wanted to vote for him and neighbors were telling neighbors what they heard. It seemed like the people pushing his candidacy weren’t his friends at all. All the good things the Hynes did seemed less important to people.
RIP Joe.

January 30, 2019Nicole Malliotakis Fails Republicans & Conservatives
Recently, Nicole Malliotakis cast her vote against the Reproductive Health Act that Cuomo signed into law.
Malliotakis gave her speech and sounded like she was really interested in the topic of abortion. That probably was for show, so she could say she spoke out against the bill in a press release.
We all know Malliotakis is a lawmaker and if she wanted to make the law clearer or limit it, she could amend the law to help clarify or limit the new law.
As of today, she’s still NO BILLS NICOLE (see pic above). Meaning: it’s days after that vote and Assembly woman Malliotakis hasn’t submitted a new bill.
You can search yourself by clicking here if you are seeing this post later on and want to see if she did anything.

January 30, 2019Casa Pepe in Bay Ridge Closed
![]()
Sad to see Casa Pepe closed. This is not a surprise, as it was talked about in December. It had changed owners a long time ago (and was taken off of Tio Pepe’s site). In 2018, the new owners made a good attempt at reviving the place with a new menu.
Their website displays the message above.
See other restaurants and stores that closed in Bay Ridge. You can still visit the original Tio Pepe in Manhattan.

January 29, 2019Bake Ridge Bagels Closed for Renovations
![]()
Final Update: Bake Ridge Bagels will not be reopening. They will be missed.
Update: March 2019 Still closed – see here
This afternoon, I noticed a blaring orange sign on the front door of Bake Ridge Bagels – 3rd Avenue between 94th and 95th Streets (across the street from Walgreens). The lights to the store were all out.
![]()
The orange sign read: Closed for Renovations. And the sign said they would be reopening soon. The strange thing was there appeared to be muffins in the case – like they closed abruptly and just left things as they were.
Bay Ridge hasn’t had the best luck with places that said they were closed for renovations (Areo’s, The Coop, etc.) so we are crossing our fingers for them (and Leske’s Bakery, which is also renovating)
I immediately thought, “Noooooooo Renovations!”
This store was remodeled around two years ago (I stopped there to get dinner when Lee had his surgery and the store wasn’t complete).

January 29, 2019Mike Long is No Longer Leading the Conservative Party
I never got to see the side of Mike Long that others talk about.
I only saw Mike Long accepting money from the NRA at the Conservative Party headquarters in #BayRidge.
Then Long was silent when there was a placeholder candidate.
And Long supported Marty Golden.
I don’t know him as the nice guy other people refer to him as.
Now the Conservative Party is looking at Jerry Kassar taking over. Kassar was adamant that the Brooklyn Conservatives did not accept NRA money. If he becomes the head of the NYS Conservative Party, will he return the NRA’s money?
