NRA Fundraiser at the Rex Manor

Update 3/23: Fight Back Bay Ridge announced that this event may be cancelled.

The NRA is holding a fundraiser at the Rex Manor on April 25th.  See Kadia Goba’s story.

I always considered the Rex Manor a family place, I’m surprised they would host an event by the NRA.

To the NRA in Brooklyn – why do you need to run fundraisers?  The NRA threw money at the NYS Conservative Party head, Mike Long whose office is in Bay Ridge.

I have told Mike Long and now Gerry Kassar to return the NRA’s money.  Kassar hasn’t stood behind many  candidates who have won an election – so you wasted your money.

I like guns and I support people’s right to organize. I don’t support gun giveaways. We already had a careless person in this community leave their gun out  and one child shot the other. Our community was lucky there was no death or we would have been sitting around saying, “thoughts and prayers.”   When you see people speaking out against the NRA here, this is the reason – they know what happened!

While NYS laws are strong – the rest of the US and Internet sales on the Dark Web are not.

NRA – this is a family community. Find somewhere else to gather.

Corey Johnson Allows Mayor de Blasio to Spend Money Like Water

Corey Johnson, the Speaker of New York City Council,  should have spoken out against the mayor holding an election in May to replace Jumaane Williams (Williams became the public advocate).  See here

Now there will be a May election and another election in November for the same seat! The May election is completely unnecessary as NYC Council does hardly anything during the Summer. So the person would just be a council member for three month.

Elections are expensive and Johnson should have spoken up. Mayor de Blasio often goes unchecked because Corey Johnson is afraid to speak up or is too busy holding press conferences to get his picture in the paper.

Like  Melissa Mark-Viverito, the public did not choose Corey Johnson to the Speaker. Johnson was elected by other council members.  We got stuck with a man who is afraid to stand up to Mayor de Blasio on ANYTHING.

Last May, Corey Johnson and Mayor de Blasio set up a group to research property taxes in NYC. It’s almost a year later and that group has not  done anything to relieve the disparity in property taxes throughout the city.

Nicole Malliotakis – Called a Dope by the Daily News

Assemblymember Nicole Malliotakis was called a dope by the Daily News.  You can see the article here.

Nicole Malliotakis voted against the speed cameras. While all legislators from NYC voted for yes except for Malliotakis and three other assembly members.

Nicole Malliotakis Adam Baumel

Malliotakis voted NO against the cameras last year with Marty Golden, but her vote was not highlighted in the newspaper like it is this year.  Malliotakis has not offered any other suggestions for speeding in Bay Ridge.

While Nicole Malliotakis votes no, speeding is an issue in Brooklyn and it’s one she has not spoken up about in this district. Malliotakis often in silent in Bay Ridge when her voice should be one of the first heard.

I love chalkboards outside of stores.

And Kitchening’s chalkboard doesn’t disappoint.

Thank you for building our community, Kitchening. I love being able to run into Kitchening and being able to purchase just about anyone a gift there. They always have new items and everything is reasonably priced.

The Middle School at Nathans in Bay Ridge

July 2019 Update: We learned from a local newspaper that $25 million was paid for this property. The original owner sold the property for $12 million. Months later this flip happened. Why would anyone who worked for NYC offer 25 Million for this property?  It’s certainly not an ideal place for a school.  #SomethingIsntRightHere

On March 18th, Karina Costantino – Community Superintendent of District 20 spoke at the Community 10 Meeting about safety and traffic concerns that residents in Dyker Heights and Bay Ridge had over the new school.

The school is being planned for four hundred and twenty five students.  Superintendent Costantino stressed that the building was needed to alleviate the overcrowding at PS 104 (way over capacity), McKinley  and Dyker. She estimated that this school would be open in three to four years.

Superintendent Costantino spoke about providing all  middle school students Metrocards so there was not a problem with yellow buses or cars pulling up to drop students off.

She said she could stagger arrival and dismissal so that the area wasn’t overwhelmed with middle school students all at once.

A resident asked if the Department of Education purchased the property already. The Superintendent said she would check, but she believed that the DOE secured the property.

Another resident asked about school buses parking outside the school at night (currently bus drivers are allowed to park cars outside of schools, so they can easily access their bus near their home). Superintendent Costantino said she would look into this and understood the residents need for this question to be addressed.

Superintendent Costantino answered all the questions residents had.

New Structure at Owl’s Head Water Treatment Plant

We have this Wastewater treatment plant off of the Belt Parkway. I bet you don’t realize how big it is.

Take a look at this picture.

At the CB 10 meeting they talked about adding the aqua blue two story building (in the picture above) there.
