August 20, 2019DiFara Pizzeria Closed & Seized by NYS Gov.
![]()
Well-loved, Di Fara Pizzeria at 1424 Avenue J in Midwood, Brooklyn has been closed and seized by the government. The state had everyone leave the building and they put the SEIZED sign on the door.
The news is reporting they owe over $160k in taxes since 2014. See here, here, here and here. (Saddest picture on that page)
![]()
This was a cash business so you would think they had enough money to keep the government away. They have a second location at 103 N 3rd Street in Williamsburg that is still open, if you need your pizza fix.
The owner’s daughter, Margaret Mieles, who runs the place told Channel 1 News that she believes the restaurant is being targeted. Mieles told Channel 1 News that they are on a payment plan with the state and since May, they haven’t missed a payment. Mieles said that the state just received a payment.
Seizing property is a last resort. The state will continue talks with the owner after taking the property to try and resolve the issue. So we may see De Fara’s opened again soon.
Update 8/21: Mayor de Blasio wants to save Di Fara Pizzeria. Cuomo came out against it because he didn’t think the pizzeria should avoid state tax.

Update: Di Fara Pizzeria reopened. They got the best free publicity and a lot of people who didn’t know about their pizzaria learned about it from all the news coverage.

August 20, 2019NYS Wastes Money to Change the License Plate
![]()
Money is unlimited in New York State and someone had a lot of free time to design a new license plate for NY. Do we really need a new license plate? I don’t think so. Go here to vote.
The last time they changed the plate, they said it was because the gold background and dark text was easier for the police to read? Why did they go back to the white background?
Number 3 is the reason I am writing this. Number 3 is of the Tappan Zee Bridge, which has been renamed the Mario Cuomo Bridge, after Governor Cuomo’s father.
The Tappan Zee Bridge isn’t a favorite bridge of anyone I know. Why would it be a design? Because that’s what someone wants. Did they offer three Statue of Liberty designs to divide the vote so the stupid bridge one wins?
I wouldn’t put it past them. This site said: “The plates will come with a $25 fee — on top of the registration renewal cost — and there will be an additional $20 fee to keep the same plate number.”
