August 22, 2019Eric Adams Silent on Gun Violence in Brooklyn Again
On Tuesday, August 20th, two step-brothers in Coney Island were shot and killed. See here and here
Eric Adams, the Brooklyn Borough President was SILENT. I waited to share this because I wanted to see if Eric Adams was his usual fake self or if he was really concerned about poor areas in Brooklyn.
Days ago, I pointed out to him that Eric Adams was grandstanding on the issue of gun violence. Catherina Gioino shared that Adams held a presser about illegal guns.
![]()
At the presser, Eric Adams pretended he cared about poor neighborhoods and complained that “There should be an outcry over all neighborhood shootings, as opposed to only ones in more affluent areas.”
Adams didn’t mention the shoot out in Coney Island on his Facebook or Twitter – not even to offer condolences to the families.
Dr. Mathylde Frontus has been an advocate against gun violence for years. On August 20th, she shared this:

Dr. Frontus has been speaking out against violence in Coney Island long before she was an Assemblywoman (this is from 2015 – no sign of Eric Adams).
Councilman Mark Treyger shared this statement.
Eric Adams is an ex-police office. This should be an area that is a strength for him. But it’s not. I wrote to Catherina Gioino to ask her to do an update on Adams because he was caught grandstanding. See here.

August 22, 2019Will Bishop Kearney Become a Specialized Public High School?
![]()
Senator Gounardes and Councilman Brannan want Mayor de Blasio and Chancellor Carranza to purchase Bishop Kearney High School and make it a NYC Specialized High School for students. There is a demand for more specialized schools in NYC. Story here.
While this is an okay idea, it would be better if the school became a Beacon School that any student in the area could go to and have a high quality education. A specialized high school will be open to all students in the city. Gounardes should grab the school and make it a community school. Maybe he doesn’t have the funding or authority to do that, so he is hoping the city buys it?

Why didn’t Gounardes and Brannan meet with the Mayor or the Chancellor OR wait to hear from one of them before he contacted the paper. I noticed that this has become a trend lately, so there are a lot of articles, but not a lot happening (examples: Gounardes on the lowering of the Verrazzano bridge toll – see here OR Brannan calling for action on illegal conversions and nothing happening – see here and here). Golden and Malliotakis did this for years, so I am surprised the Democrats are doing the same thing.
Update: The Eagle had the letter from the politicians, which has yesterday’s date, so it’s weird that they ran right to the paper to discuss this when nothing has happened.
Another thing that is strange is why would Gounardes announce this? Is he trying to make the same thing happen at this school that happened at the last school location? The Nathan’s location on 86th Street was purchased by a developer for $12.5K and he turned around and sold it to NYC School Construction Authority for $25 million without any improvements to the property. The sad part is that there was someone dumb enough to pay that much money for the property. It doesn’t take a business degree to know that was a bad deal. Story here

August 21, 2019Mike Grimm & Marco Kepi 2020 Candidates
![]()
For the past few days, Republicans have been chirping about candidates for 2020 elections in Brooklyn!
Michael Grimm will be running for Congressman in 2020. See here. There will be a primary between Grimm, Nicole Malliotakis and Joseph Saladino. Grimm will easily win. People in Staten Island love Michael Grimm. When Malliotakis ran for mayor, a lot of Staten Islanders said they didn’t know much about Nicole Malliotakis. “Joey Salads” Saladino is a Youtube personality that may attract a younger audience, but will they vote? Will Grimm be make a comeback?
Former Trump staffer, Sean Spicer is with Malliotakis, who will Grimm and Saladino recruit?
Marko Kepi will be running for Nicole Malliotakis’ vacated 64th Assembly seat which covers part of Bay Ridge. Kepi lives in Staten Island, but is known in Brooklyn because of his work at Marty Golden’s office. Will that help him or hurt him?
Michael Tannousis, a 35-year-old Staten Island resident and former Assistant District Attorney in the Bronx announced that he is also running for Malliotakis’ seat. Tannousis just started working for Connors and Sullivan Law Firm in Bay. Sadly, Michael Tannousis doesn’t seem to know he is running for a seat that covers Bay Ridge and Staten Island – see here. What else is new!
