July 27, 2025Mayor Eric Adams Will Be In Sunset Park Today

Mayor Eric Adams is expected in Sunset Park today, Sunday, July 27th at 12:00 pm. Avoid the area if you don’t want to be caught in traffic.
Adams is going to be on 65th Street and 8th Avenue campaigning. The Asian community votes, so Adams wants their support.
In Manhattan, the Asian community is supporting Adams over Mamdani. See here:
Eric Adams is going to have a hard time convincing this Asian community that he supports them when Asians in Brooklyn are against Eric Adams putting an all-male shelter on 86th Street. If Adams changed that to a family shelter, it would be more influential than campaigning. The peop;le are afraid and just want to feel safe.
Some Asian grandparents are even sleeping in their vehicles near the site so that they can alert the community if there are any changes at the shelter.
If Eric Adams wants the Asian community’s vote, he needs to offer real safety to the people. Sliwa told the people that they wouldn’t put a shelter on 86th Street.
Update: Curtis Sliwa was counter protesting Adams:

Eric Adams people set up the area to look nice. But Sliwa has a lot more people with him.
Looking like the protest across the street is bigger than the southern Brooklyn AAPI rally for @NYCMayor Eric Adams. Still waiting for the mayor. pic.twitter.com/MjOYdDFLOl

July 26, 2025No Money for Some Afterschool Programs in Bay Ridge, But Money Spent Like Water

Some schools in Bay Ridge will not have afterschool programs AGAIN. This is funding cut by LEAPS – (LEAPS stands for Learning and Enrichment After-School Program Supports).
Senator Andrew Gounardes has not shared that information with the community yet.
When I heard about the cuts, I asked Gounardes to cancel his “fun day” in Shore Road Park as two hours of fun can pay for afterschool for several children. The same organization holding the fun day, NIA is also in charge of the afterschool programs, so it would have been a simple phone call.

The low attendance event was held yesterday – see Gounardes video here: https://www.facebook.com/reel/1127295796113816
It was a very poorly advertised event and seemed to be for a certain group of people – almost like a private party. While an event like this is fantastic for Halloween, it is unnecessary in July.
Last year, Iwen Chu and Justin Brannan held the bouncy house fun day in the park. While these days are nice, they seem seem frivoulous when state funding was cut for some schools. That money could have been better spent on afterschool for a few families that needed it.

July 26, 2025Some Justice for Ephrain Barreto – Sunset Park

On June 3, 2024, Efrain Barreto was struck by Abed Abed on a moped , as he crossed 60th Street near 5th Avenue in Sunset Park.
Yesterday, Senator Steve Chan announced that there was a conviction in the case. “In Loving Memory” of Efrain Barreto shirts were worn by family and friends, who have been waiting for justice.

Senator Chan wrote that Abed Abed was found guilty on all ten charges. Abed was remanded to jail on a $20,000 cash bail pending sentencing on Monday, September 8th. See charges:
Senator Chan has asked for the community to show up for Abed Abed’s sentencing on September 8th at 9:00 at at Kings Criminal Court at 120 Schermerhorn Street in Brooklyn.

Barreto’s daughter, Vivian has been seeking justice for her father and in turn safer streets for Brooklyn.

Abed was charged with aggravated operation of a motor vehicle without a license in the third degree. He killed Efrain Barreto, so he should have been charged with a felony, but the current law does not support that. Barreto’s daughter wants that changed, so reckless drivers are held accountable for killing people.

RIP Ephrain Barreto. Thank you to his family and community for holding someone accountable in a time when it feels like crime goes nnoticed. Prayers for your continued healing and peace.
——————-
Senator Steve Chan has been taking street safety seriously. He realizes that he can’t just concentrate on just his district because this problem exists throughout Brooklyn.

Senator Chan has been speaking out about deaths in other areas of Brooklyn.

Chan immediately went to Sunset Park after two men were killed while crossing the street. While this is Senator Andrew Gounardes’ district, Gounardes waited almost two weeks to hold a presser and speak about what happened.
For Gounardes, it seems like creating videos is more for his social media, rather than taking action for Brooklyn. The mayor isn’t going to take this issue seriously if the politicians are waiting two weeks to speak up about it. Senator Gounardes ended this week with:

July 25, 2025Strange Things – Election Fraud in Bay Ridge

There is more information coming out about the Republican Primary election results now:
1) Today an article in the New York Times said there were twenty-two paper ballots that appeared, but were not scanned by the voting machines on election night. See here:
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/25/nyregion/election-fraud-new-york-city-council.html
Those 22 votes were not counted.

2) There were two deceased people who “voted” in the Republican Primary election in June. The article says that those two votes WERE counted and included in the total votes! Here’s the reason why:

3) Frank Seddio told the NY Post that several people, who worked at the Brooklyn Board of Elections on this primary were reassigned during this investigation.
4) Personal devices and computers were seized from BOE employees as part of the probe.
