The 68th Precinct’s National Night Out Event will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2025 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at Shore Road Park (79th Street and Shore Road).

This event is for everyone and is for free. The NYPD holds this event each year for the community. There will be food, soft drinks/water, children’s activities, live music and fun!

In Sunset Park, they have National Night Out earlier – so some people go to both!

This used to be called National Night Out Against Crime, but most NYC Police Districts, like ours dropped the ending “Against Crime.”

Redhook, Brooklyn Needs a Better Leader Than Andrew Gounardes

A huge project for the Brooklyn Marine Terminal was supposed to be voted on by the taskforce, but the vote has been postponed FOUR times.

On Thursday, July 24th, the Brooklyn Marine Taskforce will finally vote. At 3:15 pm, Brooklynites will rally!

Redhook residents explained in detail the problems with the project. There are missing reports that should have been done last Fall, when the project was started. Also resident’s concerns have been ignored by the EDC – they sent queations and did not receive responses.

Senator Andrew Gounardes’ job is to make sure the people’s concerns are being heard.

Gounardes wrote a useless opt-ed for the newspaper and left out the people’s concerns. Sunset Parkers made the graphic above because Gounardes is pushing for housing, but doesn’t realize how significant this location on the water is to the community.

While housing is important, it is not the only concern for the area or the residents. The growth of this community depends on this project being properly planner. Housing can always be added later.

Antonio Reynoso explained all of the problems with this project:

Even Congressman Jerry Nadler spoke out and said that the vote has been delayed because the EDC knows they don’t have the votes for this project.

Senator Andrew Gounardes was put on this taskforce with Dan Goldman by Mayor Adams. Both Gounardes and Goldman have accepted donations from a member of the EDC.

Council Representative Alexa Aviles called for transparency:

Many of the people on the committee do not know this because Gounardes did not disclose this information to the committee, but he should have disclosed this to them or recused himself from the vote.

Hopefully, Andrew Gounardes does not vote against this Brooklyn Community and does the right thing. A vote of NO and getting the EDC to include the community’s input in this special area is important.

*For those of you who follow politics in our community: The residents in Redhook are being backed by the residents in Coney Island, who are fighting against the casino. Brannan and Gounardes are not doing the right things for these communities.

Did Kayla Santosuosso Just Realize Bay Ridge Was Dirty?

Bay Ridge don’t be fooled by a politician who creates a video of cleaning up the street to get elected. We’ve done this already!

The street that Kayla was filming has been reported to Justin Brannan’s office many times (for years). Councilman Brannan has not been too concerned with the way the streets look.

When Andrew Gounardes and Justin Brannan ran for election, they had cleanups. After they got elected, they made a graphic with cleanup dates which included their offices. Don’t believe me? Look at the first two addresses on this graphic:

Kayla Santosuosso worked for Brannan for years. Why hasn’t she ever organized a cleanup before? Why hasn’t she had hateful grafitti removed from around the neighborhood?

Santosuosso said in her video that she will add trash bins to the avenues. Who removed the garbage cans? For years people have been asking for the garbage bins to be returned to the street, why didn’t Kayla call and have them put back? A few years ago, I called the Sanitation Commissioner Ed Grayson about it. The baskets were intentionally removed.

Bay Ridge, we don’t need more politicians who want to make a video walking up the subway stairs with ONE empty cup to throw away. We need to move away from this group of politicians and get real representation in our community.

See Kayla’s video here:
