Blood Outside PS 102 in Bay Ridge
In the early morning hours, an incident happened outside of PS 102 on Ridge Blvd and 71st Street.
Today there is a large blood stain on the ground. That’s all that I know is true.
________
Apparently a man stabbed himself. But the story of why or how this happened is unclear. {Hopefully the man is alive}
Before the incident, the man was seen walking and arguing with a female – possibly drunk.
A large group of guys smoking week were seen on the school steps prior to the incident happening.
People heard low-flying helicopters, police sirens and someone screaming to get off of him!

May 16, 2020Officer Sick on 84th Street
![]()
Update: The officer is fine and at home now. Info here
NYC 911 put out an alert that an office was hurt at 1434 84th Street.
![]()
An officer was not hurt. A 62nd precinct police officer fainted/didn’t feel well, so he was taken to the hospital.
But the call went in differently than that…maybe to get immediate help from the NYPD?
The streets were closed off and even the people on the Belt Parkway were delayed due to the motorcade.
The Citizen App stated that a police office was injured. The Citizen App also states that a man was shot in the foot tonight around 6pm (it doesn’t say it was the officer). Half of the items on Citizen App aren’t true – so while something happened – who knows what the story is. See videos
Another tweet followed stating that the officer was found to be conscious and alert – it doesn’t explain any more. See here
The streets were closed to allow emergency vehicles to get through fast.
Last month, there was a problem down the block from this home on 84th Street. See here

May 16, 2020Car Racing Through Bay Ridge – May 2020
![]()
Did you hear the cars screeching through the neighborhood last night?
Yup. It’s a wide open area and no one is watching.
Last night, about a dozen cars were racing along Shore Road and up and around on 3rd Avenue and some on 5th Avenue too. It started after 11:30 pm and continued into the morning hours.
@NYPD68Pct these type of degenerates need to stop. Lucky he didn’t come back for a second pass. #bayridge #dragracing pic.twitter.com/KcVL3dgXQu
— Brooklyn Shot (@GetShotinBKLYN) May 15, 2020
The only way to stop this is to do away with the existing Neighborhood Policing Program. The police are doing what they are asked to do – answer e-mails.
Everyone hears it happening except the police…because they are in the precinct.
Sitting at home, it sounds like the Grand Prix outside. Can hear the idiots going all around the streets in the distance. #bayridge

A Bay Ridge resident shared on social media that she called 911 because she heard drag racing near her home earlier this month. The 68th Precinct called her back yesterday (weeks later!). E-Policing doesn’t work for instances where actual law enforcement is needed. Lee called 911 months ago, they didn’t respond – he called back. An officer from the 68th Precinct Neighborhood Policing Program did not contact my husband to follow up (they are supposed to follow up on all 911 calls).
Brannan and Gounardes have met with the Captain over several issues and there is no change. The Captain doesn’t live in this borough and isn’t vested here.
Councilman Brannan wants to tweet about the issue, but tweets are useless. Brannan needs to call for an end to neighborhood policing. This situation has been going on for over a year now. Brannan knows the program isn’t what he initially described to him because Councilman Brannan told us that this would bring the beat cop back to the streets.
Why isn’t Brannan calling for an end to the neighborhood policing program? This program may be wrapped up with the mayor and Brannan can’t speak out against his friend. We can’t think of any other reason why he would turn a blind eye to this.
Senator Gounardes also doesn’t do anything about the broken program – just a lot of promises about street safety. All Gounardes did was get the ticket cameras put up – everyone knows where they are, avoids them and speeds on other streets now. Andrew has been in office for almost two years and wasn’t about to make any change for our neighborhood.

May 15, 2020Did You Hear the Car Horns Today in BR?
![]()
This afternoon, cars with teens were lined up on Shore Road and the surrounding area beeping their horns to celebrate the graduates of Fontbonne Hall Academy in Bay Ridge. Some young women were hanging out the window cheering. Although this wasn’t the graduation they expected, they were very happy!
![]()
The parade of SUV’s with balloons traveled across Shore Road to the school on 99th Street and up and around onto Third Avenue.
Fontbonne decorated the outside of the school with balloons, banners and pictures of the graduates on the school gates.
The Coronavirus Pandemic has changed the way we celebrate. The quarantine and the requirement of social distancing didn’t allow the Class of 2020 at Fontbonne to have senior rituals, like prom and wearing white gowns at graduation.
For some of the girls at Fontbonne, this was their second big disappointment. Last year, some of them had to transfer to Fontbonne because Bishop Kearney High School closed.
Congratulations to the Class of 2020!
Someone caught a little of it and put it with annoying music – so turn of the sound and watch the video (I warned you)
@eddiesson23 Im telling you is real, congrats class 2020 tho ##gueswhat ##coronavirus ##congratsgrad ##congratsclassof2020 ##quarentine ##class2020 ##brooklyn

May 14, 2020Politicians Webinar is a Fail for Business Owners
Sometimes what’s advertised isn’t what people receive.
Last night our local politicians held a webinar. It was announced as a townhall. Maybe the politicians don’t understand the difference?
A webinar is when people present information over video on the web. It’s a one-sided conversation.
A townhall is an interactive meeting where ideas are exchanged between different groups.
The webinar had a few glimmer of light, but mostly it was just old information and offices stroking some of the politicians egos. There were about 90 people watching the video.
![]()
Let’s start with the good points from the media: Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus has been traveling throughout the neighborhood bringing meals, masks and hand sanitizer. She doesn’t just send her team to do it and post pictures like Mark Treyger, she’s actually there doing the deliveries. Frontus has been doing this for many weeks! She was bringing masks to residents long before other politicians decided to give them out.
Tonight, Mathylde was in business mode and spoke about her current Assembly bill – A10349 . This bill requires employers to warn employees of potential hazardous environmental and health conditions in the workplace and provide PPE to employees. Frontus is the main sponsor of the bill and has a lot of co-sponsors. Anyone can co-sponsor a bill – the sponsor is the real worker!
Frontus offered her help and if you are a business owner in her district, you should give her a call. She’s the real deal. Next week she is doing a phone conference for senior citizens – they aren’t on the computer, so she is getting the message to them in a way they are familiar with – more info here.
Max Rose was an optimistic speaker. Rose spoke about the government working on being prepared for the second wave of the coronavirus. Rose also brought a testing site to Brooklyn. Unfortunately the Congressman didn’t provide any new info for business owners. Yet, he listened intently to the speakers. Often, we have seen Rose listen and come back with solutions to issues at late date. Rose thinks differently and maybe he will come back with something for these SB owners.

Gounardes was the Democratic Party echo. Gounardes spoke S8211, a bill between him and Assemblyman Carroll. This bill would Force insurance companies to pay business interruption claims for COVID-19. I’m not sure the government can change an insurance provision. Carroll and Gounardes submitted the bill last month, but the Assembly and Senate haven’t been meeting.
Senator Gounardes didn’t seem interested to be part of this conversation.
Most of the meeting, Gounardes just sat there. Helping small business owners doesn’t seem to be a high priority for Andrew. There is a recording for this session, so can see this.
The NYC representative gave the business owners the NYC website. SERIOUSLY? Did the politicians think that seven weeks in people didn’t have it? She gave it out again at the end of the webinar. Business owners must have been so annoyed.
Randy Peers, head of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce provided some statistics. That was mildly useful. I’ll add the screenshots here later today.
![]()
![]()
More small business owners in Brooklyn were able to get in on the funding during Round 2 as compared to Round 1.
![]()
Randy also talked about 46% businesses missing May rent because they don’t have incoming income. Only 21% received a landlord concession in May.
That’s not good.
Their final speaker pointed out that some people are earning more money on unemployment. Then he spent a lot of the time giving compliments to Brannan. LOL. I’m not sure what that is about, but this is the second time I have seen this speaker on a webinar and it’s the second time he has done this.
Councilman Justin Brannan acted as a moderator and told everyone when to speak. He didn’t provide information tonight, even though NYC Council passed some bills today for businesses. (There were five bills – one limited sites like Grubhub from not taking more than 15%).
Brannan said that some of the best ideas for policy come from residents. I think he means he takes ideas from his group. I know this isn’t true because I asked Brannan to put in a bill about the discrepancy in property taxes in our area and Brannan didn’t. From my dealing with him, I got the feeling that Justin would rather people didn’t bother him!
I had hoped that the politicians were going to announce an alliance, share grant information and give inside tips to get funding to our small mom and pop shops which are hurting during this time. I had hoped Brannan could have offered some NYC Council information about moderately opening a few more types of business which could safely open with one person in the shop at a time. (But that didn’t happen.)
The meeting was ended quickly by Brannan – no input from any of the business owners. Remember the way Dan Donovan used to end meetings because he hated doing them? This was the same way.
Sorry business owners.

May 14, 2020Still Drag Racing in Bay Ridge – May 2020
![]()
Last April the problem of drag racing in Bay Ridge was brought up in the news and very little was done to resolve the problem. This April the problem was brought up again (see here). A month later, the news featured the problem yet again.
NYC installed small speed bumps and threw down some paint. That didn’t scare deter the drag racers. I imagine the little speed bumps just added a bit more joy to their ride.
The NYPD said they were patrolling. Sigh. Our police don’t have a presence on the street so the drag racers own the streets.
Councilman Brannan just repeats himself like a broken record. He knows nothing is being done. When he sees something isn’t working, he doesn’t take the next step to get something done, instead he tweets, makes posts to Facebook and bombards the papers with stories. Social media doesn’t change the streets. We’ve seen Brannan reach out for help on various issues and when he doesn’t get a response, he doesn’t take the next step to get help.
Now the streets are empty due to the pandemic, it would be easy for the NYPD to catch these cars. They did catch one guy, but the racing goes on regularly.
Kudos to Andrew S. for speaking out to Jeanine Ramirez about it because no one is doing anything here. See video here.

May 13, 2020Cup of Joe is Opening on 5th Avenue
A Cup of Joe Coffee Shop is opening on Monday, May 18th
The new coffee shop is at 7407 5th Avenue, where Onofrio Jewelers used to be.
If you can’t picture that location, it’s across the street from Gino’s (that helped right?) The new owners picked a good location on 5th Avenue, Connors and Sullivan and Chase are nearby.
For 10% off on Opening Day..say that you know Amanda!
Congratulations to the new owners. It isn’t easy to open a new place, it must be even harder to do it during a pandemic.
We’re glad to see new businesses opening…..we’ll be by soon for coffee.
