Still Drag Racing in Bay Ridge – May 2020
![]()
Last April the problem of drag racing in Bay Ridge was brought up in the news and very little was done to resolve the problem. This April the problem was brought up again (see here). A month later, the news featured the problem yet again.
NYC installed small speed bumps and threw down some paint. That didn’t scare deter the drag racers. I imagine the little speed bumps just added a bit more joy to their ride.
The NYPD said they were patrolling. Sigh. Our police don’t have a presence on the street so the drag racers own the streets.
Councilman Brannan just repeats himself like a broken record. He knows nothing is being done. When he sees something isn’t working, he doesn’t take the next step to get something done, instead he tweets, makes posts to Facebook and bombards the papers with stories. Social media doesn’t change the streets. We’ve seen Brannan reach out for help on various issues and when he doesn’t get a response, he doesn’t take the next step to get help.
Now the streets are empty due to the pandemic, it would be easy for the NYPD to catch these cars. They did catch one guy, but the racing goes on regularly.
Kudos to Andrew S. for speaking out to Jeanine Ramirez about it because no one is doing anything here. See video here.
Hugs,
marlene
