Call Someone You Haven’t Talked To In Awhile

I spoke with an old friend, who I haven’t spoken to in few years. We’ve known each other since sixth grade. We’ve texted, but we haven’t talked. It was nice to reminisce about old times and a boiler room.

The reality of friendship in Brooklyn is to never trust someone who doesn’t tell you about Lioni’s Heroes at 7803 – 15th Avenue (if your friend hasn’t shared Lioni’s with you, imagine all the other things they haven’t told you about).

RIP Maria Santos Flores – 85th Street in Bay Ridge

This morning around 9:15 am, a 36-year-old woman was found dead in her apartment on 85th Street between 4th and 5th Avenue. Her neck was cut. News: https://shorturl.at/kOTar

The sidewalk outside 435 – 85th Street was sectioned off with tape and the police have been on the block all day investigating the homicide.

Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny shared information with the community:

Later in the afternoon, Council Representative Santosuosso shared:

Maria was a bartender. She completed her shift and went home. Sadly, her sister found her this morning. They called her husband Santos Hernandez, who was at work.

The killer is still at large. The 68th Precinct Police are checking cameras and investigating in the area.

RIP Maria. Prayers for Maria’s husband, children and friends, who will hear this terrible news soon.

Kayla Santosuosso Doesn’t Know How to Help People

The Council Representative for Bay Ridge is broken.

Kayla Santosuosso has been in office for six months and she is unable to help a man, who is suffering on 5th Avenue.

At the beginning of the month, Santosuosso said she is working on this every day:

This man has been living on 5th Avenue for months. Many people have reported it to Kayla Santosuosso and she doesn’t know what to do in an emergency.

I reported this to Andrew Gounardes months ago. Gounades is making videos to put on social media and fool you – he doesn’t care about this man either.

The politics of Bay Ridge stops people from getting help. Some people will say it’s NYC….any politician who allows a man to sleep outside in the rain because he has nowhere else to go is horrible. Money is being thrown at not-for-profits, while someone’s simple needs are being ignored.

They want you and I to look away because this man has no lobbyists and doesn’t interest them.

New Building Coming to Century’s Property on 86th Street in Bay Ridge!

Tonight at the Community Board 10n Meeting, a Bay Ridge resident asked what was happening at Century’s old location on 86th Street in Bay Ridge. The buildings were taken down this year, Josephine said that they only filed demolition paperwork.

I went clicking around! Do you see the blue and white gingham pattern from the Bath and Body Works store on the right? (On the left is the blue awning from where Claire’s Accessory Store used to be).

What a gorgeous building! It’s going to fit perfectly on 86th Street. I can’t wait to see what stores will be there!

Community Board 10 Meeting – Kayla Santosuosso on Rezoning and a Community Plan For Bay Ridge

Community Board 10’s meeting was packed tonight.

Council representative, Kayla Santosuosso was at Community Board 10’s meeting and she brought the City Council Land Use Team. Santosuosso stood with them and left with them (meaning: She didn’t stay for the Community Board 10 meeting).

NYC passed a Charter revision to make sure that every district is building affordable housing. Community Board 10 only built 523 units in ten years. That is the lowest of any Brooklyn community board. In the map above, where its dark blue, that’s where most of the housing was built in NYC.

NYC has determined that twelve districts will be excluded from Ulurp and the housing projects will be fast-tracked. This is going to happen to Bay Ridge until we get off their list.

The Community Board 10 was told that Bay Ridge will be on NYC’s rezoning list between 2027 and 2032.

A community plan will help the community win back the power and the councilmember will be able to have Ulurp input when more affordable housing is added to the district. The community board will decide where to build.

NYC will be targeting the Bay Ridge Triangle (87th to 95th Street – where the R train is), which is shown in red on the map:

The red area is not set in stone, it will depend on the community meetings.

There is a large amount of commercial property here – auto shops on this strip (because of the C8 zoning):

The recent rezonings are targeting this area as well:

The community will be invited to participate in these meetings and determine where the housing will go.

The development will be mixed-use properties with shops or services on the bottom floor and apartments over them.

A Bay Ridge resident noted that while some apartments will be affordable, the other apartments in the development are not.

A Bay Ridge resident said that we don’t want this because it will make the area like a ghetto. He said, “We want you to go away.”
