July 21, 2020More About Lobbyists….
Wow! You had a lot of questions about lobbyists. Many of you tried NYC’s site for the lobbyist database. I’ll link it on the right so it’s easy to find. Were you surprised how much money is being exchanged?
Some of you didn’t see the power bucks that are making things happen in NYC:
The Bay Ridge Democrats taught me about lobbyists. They told me about the former Senator and lobbyists. It’s strange that they didn’t they call this out. Two contacted me and said they never saw this database and had no idea!
Lobbyists influence politicians to vote for (or against) policies. Sadly, communities don’t realize that many votes are decided by lobbyists controlling the vote. A lot of real estate issues in NYC, that we heard about on the news, can also be found in the lobbyist database of course Amazon is in there!

July 21, 2020Politicians Meeting Not Helpful – Disorganized
As schools set up hybrid models for September, students and parents are worried because there isn’t enough information yet. It’s the first time schools are doing this so they are taking the time to do it well.
A Zoom meeting happened tonight. This meeting was not helpful mainly because it was not organized. The format used is good if you are talking about making a dog walk – not about school or big decisions for families.
When you are the facilitator of a meeting, you have to have an agenda and be sure you are providing information to those who are attending for information.
Some questions people asked were not answered because that person wasn’t prepared to answer the question. If questions were collected beforehand, then the speakers would have been able to provide more information.
This is not like the beginning of the pandemic – where people can sit around on Zoom because they don’t have anything else to do. People have things to do during the Summer and need answers.
Throughout the meeting they call on parents who aren’t there. Both politicians have attended Zoom meetings and know this wastes time.
Don’t hold a meeting if you don’t hold the information. Say, “I don’t have enough information to have a meeting yet.”

July 21, 2020Speeding…9:15 am on Fort Hamilton Parkway
![]()
This happened around 9:15 am this morning near 8636 Fort Hamilton Pkwy. (87th Street and Ft. Hamilton Pkwy) See here
Hopefully, everyone is okay.
Yesterday morning, this serious accident happened on 5th Avenue and 82nd in Bay Ridge and the person was trapped in their car.
Don’t worry, Andrew Gounardes will tell us the streets are safer because he is giving more tickets. Andrew refuses to believe that a police presence is needed in our community, so people will continue to be hurt….until it is someone he knows OR this community votes him out.

Do you think streets are any safer when people are crashing into buildings and need help getting out of their vehicles after they have crashed in Bay Ridge?
Senator Gounardes thinks that camera lights made the area safer. We don’t.

July 20, 2020Lobbyists Run the City – Money Wins
![]()
You know something isn’t right, but you can’t put your finger on it.
The same problems exist year-after-year and elected representatives pretend they have worked hard.
Lobbyists are people who work for companies who want our politicians to vote in favor of their projects.
Their $148,500+ salary each year isn’t enough for them. Remember in 2016 when NYC Council voted to raise their salary from $112,500 to $148,500. See here Yet, they are still involved with lobbyists.
NYC offers transparency about lobbyists through a database. You can look up which lobbyists have targeted your elected politician. Before you use the lobbyist database, grab a coffee prepare yourself mentally – this is going to be ugly. Click here for the lobbyist database.
Directions for the database:
1. On the left go to YEAR and Click your mouse on the first year and pull down to select all years.
2. Skip… Lobbying Subject and Subject Detail.
3. Go to Target – this is where you will put your politician’s name. Choose the dark blue button which says select Target. At the top type your politician’s name and choose the blue search button on the right. In the box below you will be able to choose the politicians’s name (or even staff members). Choose done.
4. You will see a chart with all the lobbyists that have contacted your pol. Go to the far right and you will see the word Details. Under it, you will see view details.

July 19, 2020Eric Adams is Blasted for His Stupid Advice
Brooklyn Borough President, Eric Adams told people to confront those who are throwing fireworks, instead of calling the police on them. Adams thought that would prevent violence. On July 7th, Shatavia Walls, 33, was shot and killed in East New York when she asked guys to move their fireworks away from a playground. See here
Curtis Sliwa called his advice deadly – see here.
Update: Bob Capano also called out Adams – See here
