Baya Bar Opened on Bay Ridge Avenue

Baya Bar at 3rd Avenue and 94th Street (across from Walgreens) opened a second shop! See their menu here.

The new Baya Bar is on Bay Ridge Avenue – between Third Avenue and Ridge Blvd. It’s inside Bad Ass Academy Gym at 238 Bay Ridge Avenue. You don’t need to be a gym member to go inside and get items from the Baya Bar.

Dyker Heights Businesses Inspected

Some small  business owners in Dyker Heights received a visit from NYC this week. They were checked to see if they are COVID – compliant.

NYC knows how COVID-19 is spreading because they hired contact tracers. They would know if a store, restaurant or even a dentist office was spreading coronavirus.

Businesses such as a deli, a pork store, a dentist and a tattoo places were some of the places visited this week.  Lioni’s, which has always been very clean and well-run, received a ticket. (See here)  Senator Gounardes didn’t go to help the Deli, instead he posted a picture of sandwich from four years ago. (See here)

Residents spoke up for these owners because this is not the time for NYC to target small businesses!  Politicians won’t speak up for these businesses.

This upset residents because Justin Brannan fought when his wife’s business received an awning ticket for several thousand dollars. (See here)  Brannan  co-sponsored a bill for the awnings, even though he should have recused himself because of his wife’s involvement. (See here)

When that happened, we didn’t see Senator Gounardes chime in and tell Brannan to recuse himself and step back. Why do politicians not have to pay ticket fines and have bills written to second chances, but business owners don’t?

Why haven’t inspectors come out to these 43 properties and ticketed them?   (See here)  That letter was written in April 2019 and nothing was done.  Why hasn’t Andrew Gounardes done anything to help the home owners near these illegal conversions? Gounardes is an attorney and could have sued on behalf of the homeowners in this community.

Some say that Republican business owners were targeted. I’m not sure about that, but I hope that’s not the issue here.

What Happened to the Birds at Poly Prep?

For awhile there were signs all around Poly Prep asking people not to feed the birds.

Now there are no birds walking around Poly Prep or outside.  If you walked down 92nd Street and 7th Avenue you could see ducks and sometimes a few chickens too.

You used to see birds laying around like this:

Due to COVID-19, the students at Poly Prep have class outdoors.

Did the birds leave by themselves or did Poly have them move because of the outdoor classrooms?

No Catalina Cruz You Can’t Fool Bay Ridge!

Politicians that don’t even live in  Brooklyn came here and told Bay Ridge to vote for Andrew. They didn’t tell Bay Ridge that Andrew Gounardes has taken money from developers. Why not say the whole truth? If there is nothing wrong with that, why not say the truth?

Because they know NO ONE WANTS an owned politician.  Please vote Gounardes out, Bay Ridge!  If Andrew wins, he and Brannan will continue to collect money from developers with no regard for this neighborhood!

Let’s Defund the Ticket Agents in Bay Ridge

How many NYC Traffic Agents does a block in Bay Ridge need?

 THREE!!!

There aren’t enough sanitation cleaners, but there are THREE ticket agents on for a residential block.

NYC needs money and Bay Ridge is it’s money bag!

Alternate-side parking is in full-effect and finding parking spaces is harder than it was before. Plus some streets are closed because they are being grinded and repaved (so less viable parking spots).

This is how you know we have the wrong people in office. Defund the ticket agents – not the police.

Be careful Bay Ridge drivers!

CB 10 Meeting 10/29 Rezoning for Developer

Do you remember there was a developer who wanted to put a hotel across the street from PS 104 on 91st Street and 5th Avenue?

Now that location is asking Community Board 10 if it can put 50 units in 9 floors.

This sounds like a SRO going in.  (BTW, SRO’s were placed on some blocks in Bay Ridge and many don’t know it, so they keep asking for affordable housing when the area really needs senior housing.)

SRO stands for Single Room Occupancy – a very small apartment consisting of one room, a bathroom and a cooking area.

I don’t know what CB10 will be able to do here. We saw Senator Gounardes and Councilman Brannan override the Community Board’s decision before, so even if they made a decision to say, those two could just override again.

The nine stories is the developer stretching this area.  The original plan for the hotel was supposed to be 6 floors and 65-feet tall. (See here)  I hope the neighbors in the area of this building show up!
