Alpine Theater Needs Help!

Alpine Movie Theater in Bay Ridge asked: If we can pack an airplane like this, why can’t we fill a movie theatre safely at least 50%?

Why haven’t large theaters been able to open – even at 25%? Let them make operating fees and be able to pay their taxes.

It doesn’t look like theaters will be open any time soon as they are talking about shutting down indoor dining again because of the rising Covid rates.

The Alpine Movie Theater shared this link and asked people to write to Congress at www.saveyourcinema.com

Bay Ridge Protest for the Dogs on Bergen Place

Today, Liam McCabe led Bay Ridge in a protest on Bergen Place calling for the government to intervene for these dogs.

Jack LaTorre and the residents on Bergen Place just want the dogs to be taken care of.

The man who owns the dogs was at the protest. Covid-19 has has been hard on people. Maybe he will reconsider turning the dogs over to the neighbors.

Passionately, McCabe pleaded with the man “I care about the dogs. We want to take the dogs.”

Photos from the rally here, here and here.

Justin Brannan and Senator Andrew Gounardes did not attend – even to hear from residents or to let residents know what is going on.

Although Nicole Malliotakis is neither the Assemblywoman or Congresswoman-Elect for this block, she came to support the Bay Ridge residents.

Thank you Jack LaTorre and the neighbors on Bergen Place for remaining persistant on this issue.

Thank you Liam McCabe and thank you to all the people who stood with Liam today.

If you are interested in adopting one of the dogs, please contact Liam McCabe. Maybe the government will step in soon or the dog owner will change his mind.

Daniel Presti Goes Too Far – Officer Hurt – 2nd Arrest

Daniel Presti gained a lot of support this past week because he is the manager of Macs Public House Bar in Staten Island and has continued indoor dining/socializing despite being in an orange zone.

Many Staten Island residents and business owners support Presti because businesses several blocks away are allowed to be open and have inside dining (they are in a different color zone).

Macs Public House lost its license to serve liquor at the end of November for violating Covid regulations. (Source). Presti declared the bar an autonomous zone.

On Saturday night, Presti was stopped by deputies. He got in his Jeep and took off. An officer not in unform was clipped and clung to the hood of Presti’s Jeep for 100 yards. (Story here)

This video was shared on social media of the police catching up with Presti.

The officer was taken to the hospital and has been released with two broken tibias. (Source)

I think most people will say Presti has gone to far. Hurting an officer isn’t okay – they are just doing thier job.

Yet people continued to donate to his GoFund me account which is just under $85K today. (See GoFundMe)

The attorney for the bar said that they had Presti under surveillance because they thought the sheriff’s office might do something.

Tonight, Macs Public House looks like it is closed.

14.1 Million for 86th St. Property in Bay Ridge

531 86th Street in Bay Ridge sold for 14.1 Million. (Info here)

That’s a good price, especially during Covid-19.

This property includes the former location of NY & Company, the old Modell’s (now closed) and Spectrum (which opened where Panera used to be).

Don’t count 86th Street out just because Century’s is closing today!

This year, Sephora opened down the block from this location and the Victoria Secret Store opened as a lower cost VS Store after the initial Covid-19 breakout. Both bring a good amount of traffic to the area.
