Happy New Year!

There were some fireworks for New Years Eve, but not a lot.

It wasn’t anything like the 4th of July fireworks.

Happy New Year Neighbors!

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is ny.png

Since the coronavirus started, we have heard people in Bay Ridge say the words, “Stay Safe” on a daily basis.

Each time I heard the words “Stay Safe” whether it was said to me or someone else, I always looked at the person who was giving the warning. Their words were always said with such sincerity.

The warning to “stay safe” was done out of care for people in this community.

Bay Ridge, thank you for caring so much – for each other and for this neighborhood!

I pray that sometime in 2021, we will no longer need to hear those warning words.

When this is over, I look forward to a Bay Ridge street stroll and hanging out with you and all the millions of germs that never bothered us before corona.

Happy New Year!

The Bay Ridge Puppy Mill is Out of Business

The Bay Ridge Puppy Mill no longer exists on Bergen Place.

Thank you to Jack, the Bergen Place neighbors, Liam and all of the animal activists who worked on this.

Ever since the rally, the dogs were not being kept in the shed. Some neighbors bought some of the dogs to get the dogs out of that home (thank you kind neighbors).

Seeing this place boarded up is a good way to end the year!

He left Bergen Place with a few dogs.

That situation will probably exist somewhere else in NYC, so our neighbors want to get the law changed so this can’t happen again.

The law needs to be updated to make animal abuse part of the penal law, so law enforcement can take action. Elected officials need to get involved with animal abuse issues.

Jack wrote: Write to your elected officials. Demand change. Otherwise the situation will not improve for the animals…all animals, not just the ones that were on Bergen Place.

KFC in Bay Ridge Closed

Kentucky Fried Chicken at 9201 5th Avenue closed. This closure is not pandemic related.

We knew this one was coming because Community Board 10 spoke about this lot in May. (See here)

This space is expected to become a medical office pavillion.

Disconnected

Who allows the rich and powerful to be heard?

While the statement is nice, it doesn’t happen when politicians cut the red tape for developers, accept money from developers or give power to lobbyists.

Why didn’t a staffer, friend or his wife tell him that this statement isn’t appropriate now?

Disconnected.

Fire – 3rd Avenue & 98th Street in Bay Ridge

Did you hear the sirens tonight right before 7:00 pm? Yes, there was another fire tonight.

The fire was in the large apartment building on 3rd Avenue and 98th Street.

It was in the upper level of the building and the FDNY had their ladder all the way up.

Thank God for the FDNY.

Gounardes Didn’t Sponsor or Co-Sponsor the Bill But is Taking Credit for It

Senator Andrew Gounardes wants you to think that he worked on this bill, but he didn’t sponsor or EVEN co-sponsor it.

Brian Kavanagh sponsored the senate bill.

Brian Benjamin, who is running for NYC Comptroller also sponsored the bill.

These are the eight co-sponsors of the bill:

If the bill was important, why didn’t Andrew Gounardes co-sponsor and help?

Andrew had his staffer make a graphic as if this bill was an occasion announcement, like a street fair.

You can see the bill here.

In the NY Assembly, Mathylde Frontus was a sponsor of this bill. Frontus clearly shares the bill here. There is no pretty graphic because she has information to share.

The bill is decent for many groups, except recent home buyers, who are renting out apartments in hopes of paying their mortgage/taxes.

Whose helping these home owners? No one because Gounardes, Frontus and the other state politicians consider you to be in the wealthy category – so no help!

Ironically, Gounardes closed his office this week because he thought no one in the community needed help. (See here)
