Even though there wasn’t a large party due to Covid-19, his swearing in ceremony looks very nice.

January 4, 2021Assemblyman Tannousis’ Bay Ridge Office

Assemblyman Michael Tannousis will be sharing an office with Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis at 7716 3rd Avenue.

Assemblyman Tannousis’ has already started working in the position! He went to speak with the NYPD in Staten Island.

Tannousis, like many Bay Ridge residents, is against bail reform because the Senate and Assembly went too far and this has caused crime to increase. (See here Tannousis notes crime in SI)
Tannousis listed his three phone numbers here – the Brooklyn number is: 718-439-8090.

He also has an online form for help here.
Inside the office was a desk, chairs for constituents and an American flag on the wall.
This is a good sign because Andrew Gounardes didn’t want people to know where his office was. Gounardes’ address was not published online and he took over a year to put a sign on his office. (See here)
Malliotakis had this poster in the window:

Michael Tannousis will be involved in these committees in the NY Assembly: (See article)
Committee on Aging -appointed ranking member (see here)
Codes Committee
Judiciary Committee
Governmental Employees Committee
Cities Committee.

January 3, 2021Why Didn’t Andrew Gounardes and Other Democrats in Our Area Speak Out Against the Racist Remark Made by a Democratic District Leader?

A Brooklyn Democratic District Leader made a comment on social media that was hurtful to the Asian community. (See here, here and here)
Update: For three days now, Democrats spoke out about it, but most from our area were silent.
Andrew Gounardes was supported by Maslow when he ran for election, so he didn’t say anything. (See here) Maslow was also on Gounardes’ transition team (See here)
Andrew Gounardes was on social media today and didn’t say anything about the racist comment. See here
Democratic District Leaders like Chris McCreight and Tori Kelly didn’t say anything about the comments. If you are going to remain silent, then step down from the District Leader position and let some of these people who aren’t afraid speak out.
Councilman Brannan did not speak out about this. Here’s what he is tweeting about. Brannan didn’t say anything about this comment either.
Community group, Radiofree Bay Ridge only said three words (See here). This group wanted to talk about racist statues this November – don’t divert people’s attention from real racism.
The Democratic Party Leader tweeted this:

From the tweet, Rodneyse Bichotte doesn’t tell you that Maslow is still a Democratic District Leader.
While Maslow stepped down from position as 6th Vice President of the Democratic County Committee, she did not step down from being a district leader. That part is important and shows that Bichotte isn’t ready to speak out against all racism!

January 3, 2021Hamzeh Alawadi’s Barber Shop in Bay Ridge

Welcome to Hamzehal Alawadi’s Barber shop. It opened at 8020 – 3rd Avenue in Bay Ridge. It’s next door to Little Weddings Works between 80th and 81st Streets.

I like when a new barber shop comes to the area.
Barbers are always so task-oriented. They set up the business, put up a sign, decorate the window and start cutting hair.

Congratulations Hamza, the barber!

This is nice looking barber shop.
Hamza does nice cuts for kids – see pics here

This storefront used to be Bay Ridge Yoga. In July we saw the For Rent sign as this studio was forced closed due to the pandemic. The owner was teaching yoga outdoors on Shore Road. *After the pandemic, we hope to see her back on the avenue.

January 3, 2021Congresswoman Malliotakis was Sworn in Today

Nicole Malliotakis was sworn into Congress today.

Whether you like her or you don’t, Malliotakis will provide balance to the government. While other politicians have been complacent or in agreement towards socialism, Malliotakis has spoken out against it strongly.
It’s interesting to see her dog was at that swearing in.
In Bay Ridge a few weeks ago, there was a rally against a puppy mill being run out of a home. While Malliotakis wasn’t the representative for the area, she showed up to support the Bay Ridge residents. (No other politician showed up – Brannan, Gounardes and Felix Ortiz (who was the representative until the end of the year).
