February 13, 2021People’s Pantry Placed on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge

** We’ve seen a couple rob the whole contents of this pantry with their wagon.

The People’s Pantry was placed on 5th Avenue between 80th and 81st Street to assist anyone who needs help. People can add food to the pantry for their neighbors.

It’s not a refrigerator so place non-perishable items in the pantry.

February 13, 2021Papa John’s Valentine’s Day Deal

Papa John’s has two Valentine’s Day Deals going on. Order here with code: Valentine
You may ask, “Why get Papa John’s when there are so many other pizzerias in the area?
You can see other pizzerias in Bay Ridge that have heart-shaped pizzas here.

Some people like Papa John’s. Some people aren’t able to find a pizzeria to deliver a heart shaped pizza quickly. And some people like getting a deal – especially during this Covid Valentine’s Day.

February 12, 2021Justin Brannan Claimed He Lowered Your Property Tax Bill by $300. Did Anyone Get a Lower Property Tax Bill?

In July, Brannan told Bay Ridge that he and NYC Council reduced home owners property tax by $300.

I haven’t found anyone who in Bay Ridge or Dyker Heights or got a lower bill from last year.
Councilman Brannan doesn’t think he needs to be accountable for what he says.
Newspapers wrote that properties in NYC would be taxed at the same rate as last year. Yes our tax increased this year AGAIN. Yours too?
Today on social media, Councilman Brannan pretended to be outraged about property taxes on social media.

His poor choice of words shows Brannan’s lack of education.
Brannan thinks people want to hear this type of language. This is just unprofessional!
The reality is Brannan is part of the red tape that has permitted a broken property tax system to continue. Brannan pushed for the property tax commission because he knew that would help the delay the process.
Everyone knows a property tax commission wasn’t needed to say that the rates are disproportionately uneven.
When the Property Tax Commission finally came in with their report, they left out the property tax rate.
At that point, Senator Andrew Gounardes should have sued the city or proceeded in Albany with making changes to the law. Gounardes didn’t do anything because he follows his party. (See video where he says he is waiting for on the Mayor)
Gounardes plays around tweeting messages on Twitter and Facebook, but he is a terrible representative for our area.
I didn’t think that a representative would need to be a home owner to understand they need to do something when their area is being overtaxed by thousands.
This week, Mayor de Blasio said he would continue the property tax commission hearings with the public.
Andrew Gounardes responded to the mayor: “Great.”
Gounardes should have asked for a date for the property tax rate, but he didn’t because he knows nothing is going to happen. #Fail
Deputy Mayor, Vicki Been let everyone know that property taxes wouldn’t be adjusted during Mayor de Blasio’s time. (See here) The next day she was forced to recant that statement (the woman has to pay her bills).
It’s ridiculous for NYC to continue property tax hearings during COVID-19 (or any other time). No one is going to say: “My property tax is too low.” Brad Lander from Park Slope SHOULD, but Brannan and Gounardes’ friend doesn’t want higher taxes either.

February 12, 2021Verrazzano Bridge Toll Increases in April Because Bay Ridge Politicians Failed

The Verrazzano Bridge toll will be increasing in April. (See here)
The politicians for Bay Ridge have a history of standing in front of the Verrazzano Bridge, taking a picture and acting like they did something to change the toll.

Not one of the politicians shown above or below did anything to decrease the toll cost from Brooklyn to Staten Island. It doesn’t matter if it is Republicans or Democrats.

Gounardes did not do his job. His March 2019 sits in Committee. (See here)
People thought the politicians did something because local newspapers hailed the bill. But then newspapers never followed up and told you that the bill didn’t go anywhere.
Max Rose was the only elected who made any change to the Verrazzano toll. Rose’s bill was for a two-way toll, so less traffic would come through Staten Island/Brooklyn.
We need regular people representing us, not politicians. Regular people wouldn’t tweet nonsense or fill our papers with press releases about things they haven’t done.

February 12, 2021Cuomo’s Coverup Should Result in Him Being Removed For Fraud

How is Cuomo able to stay in office after submitting fictitious reports? (See story)
The NYS Senate and Assembly should have called for his resignation or to impeach him.
They are complicit. They extended power to Cuomo and voted in favor of immunity for nursing homes. Barely any commented when Leticia James released her report! Our senator, Andrew Gounardes was silent until yesterday.
Cuomo’s staffer lied because she said she didn’t want to face a federal investigation. And she still holds her position.

February 12, 2021Today I Am Changed My Political Party So I Can Vote Against Eric Adams

While some readers of this blog are strong Democrats or Republicans – I am not.
Currently, I am a registered Republican…LOL. Even I laughed when I wrote that!
Yes, I know I don’t make a good Republican. I switched parties a few years ago because I wanted to get Golden out of office and coward Democrats allowed him to run unchallenged. (See here)
Politically, I fall in the middle on most issues. I believe in a hands-off government, but there are times I need the government to step in and help my students’ families (and immigrants too….be kind to immigrants because the system is broken). I am against pay-to-play, lobbyists and developers ruling this city.
Today is the last day to switch to vote in the Democrat primary for Mayor. The Democratic Primary will decide this election. Everyone knows it. The DMV online allows people to change parties (DMVs Website)
I asked Lee if he wanted to switch with me. He said, “After 50, no one cares what political party they are in. I want to vote against Eric Adams too.”
Eric Adams would be a terrible mayor. He’s an awful borough president mostly because he doesn’t have the foresight to see what his decisions will do.
Here’s why:
1) Eric Adams invited AirBnB into Brooklyn years ago. (See here) Rents skyrocked after that because there was a shortage of apartments. Years ago, I rented a whole house with 3 bedrooms and a background for $1100….that’s how I was able to save for a house.
Eric Adams has no foresight. Later, when he realized he made a mistake, he tried to remove his support for AirBnB, but the damage was done.
2) Eric Adams invited Cars2Go into Brooklyn. This company parked their vehicles all over the neighborhood – the city wasn’t given any money. (See here)
3) In February 2019, Eric Adams was did not show up for three days when hundreds of prisoners were in MDC jail freezing in Brooklyn. I wrote about it back then because I was shocked. (See here)
4) Eric Adams endorsed his friend’s friend in Coney Island, rather than Mathylde Frontus. Not only did Adams know about her work, but he knew she was devoted to her community. I contacted Eric Adams and he said he endorsed the other guy because he asked. (See here) That’s not a valid reason to endorse someone, especially when a qualified candidate was running!
5) When tensions rose between Brooklyn neighborhoods, Eric Adams rode on the bus instead of taking action and making changes in the community. (See here) The Bronx Borough President had baseball for the kids and they competed at Yankee Stadiums for the Borough President’s Cup. (See here)
The reason there is hate between groups is because they don’t know each other. When I was a kid everyone in the community played ball. No one was obsessed with what nationality anyone was. We were all kids who liked to play. Team sports need to be made available to all children.
6) This Summer, a man yelled “Death to America. Death to Israel.” And people repeated his chant. This video was shared over and over on social media. Eric Adams did not respond to it. (See video)
7) Eric Adams believes it is acceptable for an elected representative to accept trips to other countries. (See here)
8) When other politicians have done the wrong thing….like Jumane Williams racking up 27 tickets for speeding in school zones (See here) or Scott Stringer’s driver doing the same thing. (See here). Eric Adams was silent. Laws were made for everyone to follow, not for politicians to be exempt.
9) Eric Adams doesn’t think that he or his staff should have to pay for parking. When you are in Downtown Brooklyn for jury duty, drivers pull out of this area as if there aren’t hundreds of people around. (See here)
10) When gifted education was in the discussion, Eric Adams flipped back and forth on his answer. He couldn’t tell you the simple answer that gifted education is necessary, but that the method being used for admission is not acceptable. Adams knew that many districts stopped gifted programs in their elementary schools and he should have stepped up to fund them!
11) When violence happens in many parts of Brooklyn, Eric Adams has been silent. Mathylde Frontus rallied in Coney Island against guns. Adams wasn’t with her. When a Bay Ridge business owner was shot this Summer, not one politician or journalist spoke to him. The business owner went to the news because he wanted the community to know what happened.
12) As crime increased in Brooklyn, Eric Adams didn’t do anything to help. A man out of jail due to bail reform attempted to rape a woman at the 95th Street station. (See here) A man attempted to rape a senior citizen in Bay Ridge. Eric Adams was silent. (See here)
13) Eric Adams and Justin Brannan have been pushing for drones. The newspaper revealed that The Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) and lobbyists behind the bill. (See here) Even during the pandemic when people and businesses need help, Adams and Brannan pushed for drones! (Disgusting!)
I’ll also be joining many of you and voting against Justin Brannan if someone is running against him. Currently, he is unchallenged.
Sadly, Brannan became everything he spoke out against years ago. His support for lobbyists bills and developers doesn’t help people in Bay Ridge. (See here)
