Gounardes Vot ed in Favor of Legalizing Pot

Andrew Gounardes has never done anything about the drug problem in NYC. Today, Gounardes voted in favor of legalizing pot. He wrote:

Brooklyn has seen an increase in traffic accidents. When more people drive when they are high, Gounardes will tell us it didn’t have anything to do with more accessible drugs. Then Andrew will tell us we need more camera lights.
We have a global pandemic going on! While tenants need rent, small landlords need help and businesses are closing, Gounardes thinks Brooklyn needs pot.

March 30, 2021Good Neighbors Reported Problems

Some children were throwing firecrackers from the overpass at 79th Street and Shore Road. Their target was an Orthodox Jewish family.
A neighbor warned the family and good Ridgites called the police!
The police caught up with the kids….so now they know them. Someone said their parents were called. I’m not sure if that is true, but the children know they can easily caught now.
Apparently these are also the same kids who were bothering Asian families at the park this weekend.
If you see something and you are unsure what to do – please call the police!

March 30, 2021Did You Want Justin Brannan to Vote to Abolish Immunity for Police Officers?

NYC Council abolished qualified immunity for police officers on March 25th. Councilman Justin Brannan voted in favor of this. There were three other bills for police reform, but this bill went too far. (Info about the four NYC Council bills here)
NYC is the first city in the US to do this. (See here)
I waited to write about it because I wanted to see how Councilman Brannan would explain his vote.
As usual, Brannan said nothing about the vote – as if it didn’t happen or he didn’t want people to know how he voted. He’s writes on social media all day long and he didn’t think this was important enough to discuss.
If this was a good bill, then we would see every council member discussing it with their constituents.
This law puts police officers at risk of being sued financially. In situations like George Floyd or Eric Gardner, we saw where this would be needed. But ultimately this is going to bring a lot of lawsuits against police officers because many people don’t believe there should be any law enforcement. This puts police officer’s family savings at risk.
We want police officers to act correctly to the community, but we also don’t want their families to be hurt by frivolous lawsuits either.
I imagine that insurance companies will soon offer policies to cover police officers from lawsuits (the same way doctors are covered).
Nicole Malliotakis spoke out against the bill and defended the police.
Currently, if a police officer acts outside of department guidelines and found to commit wrongdoing, they can lose their indemnification. This misguided law will make them personally liable in any frivolous lawsuit. This is another step toward dismantling out police department. https://t.co/9x7ZHlcnlK

I agree that this bill will also deter some people from becoming police officers.

March 30, 2021Has the 68th Precinct Shut Down the Bay Ridge Racetrack?

Drag racing has existed in Bay Ridge for a long time. Last Summer and early Fall it was the worst.
It has been a bit quieter lately. Has the NYC Highway Police and 68th Street Precinct closed the racetrack?

March 29, 2021Brian Fox – Who Is He? Why Is He Running to Become Bay Ridge’s Councilman?

Brian Fox was interviewed by the Brooklyn Paper. (See here)
– He’s a resident of Bay Ridge for many years
– He’s a local business owner in Bay Ridge
– He’s not a professional politician (This is a great thing!)
Fox didn’t find NYC Council’s response to the pandemic acceptable. Brannan failed to address the theft, vandalism, graffiti and general crime in the area.
Fox supports the NYPD and local businesses.
Surprising:
Fox said he would make the community more accessible to the disabled and elderly. That’s a good thing.
Funny:
Fox to the Brooklyn Paper: “The current councilman spends too much time on social media and getting into arguments with constituents on twitter.” That’s the #Truth
Fox says he won’t be on social media that much but you will see less crime, trash and potholes.

March 29, 2021What Happened to the Bay Ridge Socialists?

The Brooklyn Paper announced that both Justin Brannan and Brian Fox will not face a primary this year. (See here)
Only two candidates files to run for Community District 43 (See here)
The Bay Ridge Socialists vowed to run someone against Brannan last Spring. (See here)
Remembeer when Brannan said he wasn’t in his office, but there was a pizza delivery to his office while the socialists were protesting outside? He played that group of people, and they seemed pretty annoyed, so I am suprised they didn’t bring a challenger.
What happened to the socialists? Maybe they moved away due to the pandemic!
