Why Were Bay Ridge Businesses Left Out of NYC Council Budget?

For the last few years we have heard how hard it has been for the merchants to pay for holiday lights.

Last year, a Ridgite started a GoFundMe to raise money for the lights on 3rd Avenue and the community chipped in. .

NYC Council came out with the budget for this year. (See here, then hold down CTRL+F and type Brannan and hit enter to search).

Many NYC Council members made sure their business communities received money for holidays lights on their streets as they recover from the pandemic:

1) Councilman Treyger set aside money for the business districts in Coney Island. ($30,000 for lighting and gifts)

Why did Councilman Brannan leave our the business areas out of the budget?

Why Did $50,000 of Our Community Money Go to NY Law School to Teach People About Redistricting?

Councilman Brannan gave $50,000 our our district’s money to NY Law School to educate people about redistricting….that’s crazy! That’s the state’s job because they are doing the redistricting – not a local neighborhood!

$50,000 of our tax money is being given to a law school. #SomethingIsNotRightHere Is this for someone’s salary? Flyers to educate the public don’t cost 50K.

Why isn’t Senator Andrew Gounardes funding that?

Most people in Bay Ridge don’t realize that tax dollars are going for the Greenmarket on Saturdays at Walgreens, while taking money away from merchants who sell organic fruits and vegetables.

I thought the farmers who sold there paid to have a table! $6,000 gone (See here – page 182)

Why did Brannan allocate over $600,000 to a hospital and not tell anyone in the community? (See here)
