Donate Toys for Christmas in Bay Ridge – Dropoff Locations – Toys for Tots
1) Olives and Pita Annual Toys for Tots Toy Drive has started. They will be collecting toys until December 13th. There are many dropoff locations throughout the community – see above.
On Saturday, December 13th qt The Salty Dog from 12:00 – 5:00 pm is this great event where you can bring toys:
2) Donate toys until December 13th to Olivia’s Foundation
4) Donate toys until December 23rd to Holy Cross Church
5) ALC Italian Grocery (8613 3rd Ave, Brooklyn) is collecting toys for children with cancer.
6) St. Mary’s is collecting new toys to distribute (not sell) and they will pick up.

Avoid Parking on Shore Rd From 88th St to The Gazebo – Lights Out – Thieves with Flashlights
A nice Bay Ridge resident gave the community a warning about parking on Shore Road, while many street lights are out. Last night, a car was vandalized around 2:00 am o, Shore Road.
The resident noted that multiple street lights are out on Shore Road from 88th Street to the gazebo (possibly due to the sewer line work that has been going on for several weeks).
Last night, the Bay Ridge resident saw someone with a flashlight trying to get into cars, while it was pitch black out. The resident called 911 to report the theives. They also reported the street light outages to 311.
Today, a detective from the 68th Precinct called the nice person who reported the thief. The detective told her that the guy smashed out the car windows and ripped apart the inside of the car. The police notified the owner. We are sorry that someone had to get this news about their car.
They gave the community a heads up: If you park your car on Shore Road between 88th St and the Gazeb,o be aware that all the lights are out and the vandals and theives are taking full advantage.

Another Cannabis Shop for CB 10’s Meeting on 11/17 – Safety Issues Do Not Make the Agenda
Community Board 10 will have a meeting tomorrow night at 7:00 pm at The Bay Ridge Center at 15 Bay Ridge Avenue.
Last week, a man attempted to rape another man on Shore Road. Five weeks ago, two teens that attend Xaverian High School were hit by a car on Narrows Avenue. Yet, neither of these issues make it to CB 10’s meeting agenda for tomorrow?!
Also not on the agenda: the flooding of Dyker Heights homes on 10th Avenue – when will it be fixed so the residents don’t have to keep clearing water from their basements?
But there is plenty of time to talk about another cannabis shop.

Work is Being Done By National Grid on 84th Street in Bay Ridge – Monday, November 17th
On Monday, November 17th National Grid is working on 84th Street between 3rd Avenue and Ridge in Bay Ridge from 6:00 am – 6:00 pm, so there is no parking.
This is awful news for people who live on that street and the streets around it because parking is going to be difficult.

Schnitzel Haus Restaurant Got a Warm Welcome on Bay Ridge Avenue
Update: They are opening on Monday, May 4th at 4:00 pm! WOOHOO!
Schnitzel Haus Restaurant got a warm welcome from a fellow business owner on Bay Ridge Avenue.
The Urbans are opening their new restaurant at 114 Bay Ridge Avenue, the former location of Casa Pepe Restaurant.
Many people in Bay Ridge love Schnitzel Haus because of its great food, BINGO nights, live music and fun events. This large place will allow them to have a great restaurant and area to celebrate!

Why Does Justin Brannan Keep Pushing BIDs? Coney Island Called for BID Modifications
There are 46 days until the end of the year and then Justin Brannan is no longer our councilman. Coney Island is in uproar again because Brannan is pushing a Business Improvement District (BID) in Coney Island.
Why does Justin Brannan keep bothering Coney Island? They need their NYC Council Representative to have the area cleaned up, get rid of the rats and not exclude small business owners on Maiden Avenue from the BID.
Justin Brannan is telling Coney Island that things can be done AFTER the BID is made. The people know that is not a good idea. Stop the nonsense, Justin.
A few years ago, Brannan pushed a BID in Bay Ridge and the 3rd Avenue Merchants didn’t want it.
The Bay Ridge business owners didn’t want a BID because they didn’t want to pay fees for the BID.

ALSO BIDs raise the taxes on everyone in the area (the fees are collected by NYC and appear as a separate charge on the property tax bill, it’s not part of the general property tax rate).
As the graphic above states, Coney Island is calling on Justin Brannan for transparency, diversity and inclusion. Specifically they want Justin Brannan to:

Why hasn’t Kayla Santasuosso stepped up to make sure that small businesses, women, people of color people and Mermaid Avenue shops are not left out of this BID?
Why hasn’t Santosuosso stood up and made a public statement because Coney Island keeps having to fight Justin Brannan because he isn’t providing representation to all the merchants in the area.

CB 10’s Art Deco Tour in Bay Ridge Was Today

This was a two-hour walking tour and about forty people attended.
The tour highlighted eight sights. Stops included:
1) The Splendor Apartments at 7502 4th Avenue – the black doors are pictured above
2) Doctor’s Row (although these buildings are not art deco)
3) The former Lincoln Savings Bank
4) The Lincoln Law Office Building
5) 434 – 79th Street
6) Bay Ridge Jewish Center
7) Greatly Hall
8) St. Anselm Church
At the end of the tour, the Ridgites had refreshments at St. Anselm’s.
