Sunset Park: “Latte Liberals Leave Us Alone”

Are the people that live in a neighborhood deciding what goes on with the neighborhood?

I grew up with Sunset Park and I am surprised what has been allowed to happen in that neighborhood. Rezoning and politicians siding with lobbyists and developers hasn’t helped the area.

The NY Post published an article about Sunset Park calling for latte liberals to leave them alone. See here

Michael McLeer and Other Artists Painted Cows for Gods Love We Deliver Fundraiser

Seventy-five artists in NYC designed cows for the NYC Cow Parade. Some are now on display in Industry City. (See here)

The Cow Parade hasn’t been in NYC for 20 years! In 2000, 45,000 people went to view the fiberglass cows because they are so whimsical.

Michael McLeer an artist known as Kaves is from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He is also the owner of The Brooklyn Firefly in Bay Ridge.

McLeer paid tribute to Brooklyn in his work: Betsy the Cow “Spread Butter the Brooklyn Way.” All around the cow are images of Brooklyn and some of his life as well.

The boom box is a nod to his early life as a rap/punk-rock artist and his group The Lordz of Brooklyn.

Coney Island was featured on the head of the cow that Kaves designed.

Ridgites will recognize the four roses on the cow.

McLeer painted a portrait of his mother and sister in Bay Ridge on the wall next to a Deli 92nd Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway. (See here) In 1994, his mother and sister were killed in a hit-and-run accident that has never been solved. His sister, Michelle was only four years old and four roses are on that piece as well.

You can see the rest of the amazing cows that were designed for the Cow Parade here and in the video above.

On August 18th, the cows will be put out in public places n NYC. Then on September 30th, the cows will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to benefit God’s Love We Deliver! This organization delivers food to people who are seriously ill and aren’t able to prepare food for themselves.
