August 25, 2021Governor Hochul Wants to Axe the Belt Parkway – Not True

The Buffalo Chronicle wrote about Governor Kathy Hochel wants to get rid of the Belt Parkway in Bay Ridge. (See article here)
Councilman Justin Brannan wrote in a closed Facebook group that the article is not true and that Governor Kathy Hochul didn’t say she wanted to demolish the Belt Parkway.
The Buffalo Chronicle shared this picture. I don’t understand why they would use their time to make this photo.

No one in Bay Ridge was talking about doing away with the Belt Parkway, but when people saw the article, they were interested in what that would look like. Many people were annoyed to hear that the article was not true.
Why would a Buffalo publication be interested in writing about Bay Ridge? Governor Hochul started out this week strong and there was a lot of great things to write about her.

August 24, 2021RIP Tamy Quema Guahiac – Driver Drove in the Wrong Lane – Arrested and Charged

Tamy, a 6-year-old girl, was killed by a car on 12th Avenue and 67th Street before 9:00 pm tonight.

“The little girl was walking through the intersection of 12th Avenue and 67th Street in Dyker Heights around 8:00 p.m. when a Lexus SUV turned left onto 67th Street and struck her, cops said.” (Daily News, ABC7 News and NY Post)

Pix News added on August 25th: “the pedestrian signal was in the girl’s favor as she tried to cross the street.” (See here)

The child was hit by a Qiuhua Zhu, (Seen here), a 30-year-old man, operating a 2017 blue Lexus SUV GX460.
Last night, it was said that the driver remained at the accident. (See here)
On Wednesday morning, the news revealed that he didn’t. “Police say Zhu initially continued eastbound on 67th Street and returned to the scene after traveling around the block.” (Source)
It gets much worse. The next part is horrible.
On Wednesday morning Fox-5 wrote: “Zhu drove southbound on 12th Avenue and crossed over the solid double yellow pavement markings, traveling into oncoming traffic. As the vehicle traveled southbound in the northbound lane, Zhu made a left turn at the intersection of 67th Street and hit the girl.” (Source) “Zhu and his passengers were not injured.”(Source)
WPIX reported today: “Police originally said the 30-year-old driver told them the little girl suddenly ran out into the street as he was turning left onto 67th Street, from 12th Avenue, and that he couldn’t stop in time.” (Source)
HOW AWFUL!
Another newspaper wrote that Tamy’s Mother was unable to pull her daughter to safety. (See here) There was no way she could have predicted a car coming from that direction. Please pray for Hiromi’s mother – the family lives right near this intersection. (Source)

“Zhu was charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, motor vehicle failure to yield to a pedestrian with injury, failure to yield to pedestrian, failure to obey traffic device, driving the wrong direction on a one-way street, improper left turn on a one-way road.” (Source)
The area was sectioned off with tape and NYPD vehicles were outside of 1175 67th Street with their flashing lights tonight. See video
RIP Tamy Quema Guahiac.
Prayers for this family. There is nothing worse than losing a child.
A fund was set up to help defray the funeral cost. See here
Neighbors near the scene said that this intersection is dangerous. (See here)
