November 21, 2021Thieves Are Tasing Cyclists & Scooterists in Bklyn

The Brooklyn Reporter shared two stories of thieves targeting and tasing cyclists and scooterists in Brooklyn. (See news)

Last Sunday, November 14th, an 18-year-old female was arrested for allegedly stealing a man’s scooter on 20th Avenue and 86th Street in Brooklyn at 6:35 pm. “Cops said the woman tried to tase the victim when he chased her.” (Source)

Just four days earlier on Wednesday, November 10th and a mile away, a 14-year-old boy was tased by three thieves on Avenue S and West 13th Street at 6:45 pm. The thieves stopped the boy, punched him, showed him a knife and then tased him in the chest.

November 21, 2021CB 10 Needs to Change It’s Format for Speakers Because Wasting People’s Time with Nonsense is Unnecessary

The CB 10 Meeting this month was pretty bad this month! People can’t hold politicians accountable, but CB 10 could if they didn’t continue to allow “no news” announcements from politician’s offices.
When there is a meeting, people who are speaking are supposed to bring information. If they have no information and the political staffer just wants to waste people’s time with greetings, that should be done in the Zoom chat.
The first fifteen minutes of a meeting are important and Lori Willis should change the format because it’s not working! It was torturous to watch. Make the political staffers do their nonsense “Hi” message at the end of the meeting after the community news….or not at all.
Community Board 10 should screen speakers and ask for their topic before the meeting. Several elected representatives sent staff to say, “Hi” or “Happy Thanksgiving” instead of delivering information. It tells us how little they are doing for us.

Now you know why he had a hard re-election.
Michael Sheldon, staffer from Councilman Justin Brannan’s office didn’t have a camera on and then came on to say that he had no news to report. Sheldon didn’t want to tell people about the three seniors who were robbed while they were shopping in Foodtown? (See here)
Sheldon didn’t even thank people for voting for Brannan. Is that office on 3rd Avenue open to the public yet? Sheldon’s only message was to say, “Hi from the councilman.” Hey Michael Sheldon, do you know there is a hotel being built on 86th Street and all Justin Brannan wants to do is say hi? (See here)
A lot of members on Community Board 10 were appointed by Brannan so they are unwilling to hold Brannan accountable. Saying “hi” is fine with them. The members who have been on the board for so long should be speaking out against this – don’t Sheldon speak unless he has information.

Frank from the Department of the Buildings came on that said, “If you go to NYC BID System and don’t see a permit, check DOB Now, the newer system to see the filings for permits.” (LINK) GOOD INFO AND BRIEF.
Then there was more time wasting:

Basil Capentanakis, staffer from Assemblyman Michael Tannousis office said he sends his regards and to have a Happy Thanksgiving. Tannousis lives in Staten Island, so he SHOULD have news about his work for this community each month to show he has a connection here.

Nancy Lulu from District Attorney Eric Gonzalez’s office didn’t bother putting on her camera for the Zoom Meeting. Gonzalez shouldn’t send people who don’t want to show up for a meeting. Nancy’s only message was that everyone should go to the DA’s website and read the press releases. REALLY? There wasn’t one thing that Eric Gonzalez did that was worth speaking about?

Libby Silver from Senator Gounardes office came to the meeting without a camera. She had Tori Kelly’s name on the Zoom and didn’t understand that she had to change her name on the app, so that wasted time, while she had to figure out what to do. Libby didn’t have any news other than to say Happy Thanksgiving. Libby could have talked about the commercial parking around Poly Prep and the park on 86th Street or any other problem in the community. Why didn’t Senator Andrew Gounardes give his staffer any information for the community?

Congresswoman Malliotakis’ staffer, Lori was very brief. She gave the office number and address – that’s what someone should do! Eric Adams staffer was also very brief – no info.
The pandemic is going on long enough that everyone should understand what is needed for a Zoom meeting – a camera and a microphone.

Irene Chiu from Peter Abbate’s office was also is unable to be present for the meeting with a camera. Why did Abbate send her to meeting if she isn’t comfortable talking to people?

David Louis from the Mayor’s Office said: Sand bags are being given to communities. What David didn’t tell the meeting was that there are no Brooklyn locations to pick up sandbags (if people in Dyker Heights needed them)

David said he could share the information, but didn’t. David Louis didn’t share it to the meeting because he KNEW that there were no Brooklyn locations for the sandbag giveaway! (More time wasted!)
Mathylde Frontus’ representative spoke about a turkey giveaway for those in need on November 19th. Doris asked the staffer to provide a copy of a report that was promised at Frontus’ last meeting, but wasn’t provided. He said he would.

David Nussbaum from NYC came on to say, “Make sure you have working carbon monoxide detectors.” He didn’t offer the info for people to get a free detector (see here or call 877-733-2767)
Then a woman spoke about healthcare. That should have been a chat topic as well.

Then the meeting began:
1) There is no garbage pickup on Thanksgiving. Friday, November 26th is not a holiday and all parking signs are in effect.
2) The S95 bus is going to have a layover extension on 88th Street and 4th Avenue (here), since there’s not enough room for two buses right now.

3) There was talk about the new ferry, but the information wasn’t that informative.
4) Community Board 10‘s next meeting is on Zoom on Monday, December 20th.
6) A CB 10 member presented about the homeless shelter on 8th Avenue and 65th Street. She was unempathetic for the homeowners and business owners in that area who have been fighting against this shelter. No one else from Community Board 10 even made a statement for those home owners or business owners. Can you imagine being someone who lives in the area around the shelter and this information was just thrown at you without any warning and CB 10 didn’t do anything to help those voices from being heard?
7) Finally they spoke about BFCFC plans for the’ new development at St. John’s former site at 9818 Fort Hamilton Parkway. It’s building within the limits for the area. (See here)
DO BETTER CB 10….PEOPLE ARE COUNTING ON YOU.

November 20, 2021Why Was Gale Brewster in Brooklyn?

Ari Kagan won Mark Treyger’s seat in the recent election. Now Gale Brewster was in Gravesend. This is as strange as when Corey Johnson came to Brooklyn to hang out with Mark Treyger on the Boardwalk.
Brewster must be running for NYC Council Speaker and wants to secure some votes. In the evening, she was also seen in Staten Island at a party Max Rose gave to Debi Rose:

Staten Island also probably has never seen Gale Brewster until now.

November 20, 2021Who Left $10,000 In A Car In Brooklyn?

On November 19th, The Brooklyn Reported shared the story that a thief robbed a car on 4th Avenue and 88th Street on Thursday, November 11th. (See here)
The police said the car was parked at 9:00 and the doors were left unlocked.
$10,000 in cash, credit cards and golf clubs were stolen. I don’t know anyone who would leave $10,000 in their car.
