January 5, 2022Instead of Investing in the R Train, Governor Kathy Hochul Wants Bay Ridge To Use a New Train To New Lots, Queens

Bay Ridge straphangers thought that the infrastructure bill was going to bring some much needed help to the R train. Nah, the city snail will remain as is.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced the new Bay Ridge to Queens line named: The Interborough Express. (Story here, here, here and here)
Most people in Brooklyn don’t have a need to go to Queens – most people here need to get to Manhattan.
I have never heard anyone in Bay Ridge say they want to go to New Lots Avenue or East New York. Have you?
Safety – Bay Ridge vs. East New York. Bay Ridge is six on this list. East New York is 63.

The Interborough Express will run on 14 miles of existing freight tracks including the Bay Ridge train tracks (See photos here and here).
Online they are talking about a student in Queens cutting down their transportation time to go to Brooklyn College.

What politician wants this train? Queens Borough President, Donovan Richards is quoted in the paper. (See here) That isn’t good. See this story on Richards.

Where are our politicians on this? Senator Andrew Gounardes wrote “Game changer” on Twitter. He can’t speak out against another Democrat, even if Bay Ridge’s R train needed that money and commitment from NYS.

When new infrastructure is built, it has to be maintained. The R and D lines haven’t been maintained and should have been a priority. Our politicians should have been calling for it like other politicians were pulling for their communities.
Assemblywoman Mathylde Frontus and Councilman Justin Brannan didn’t say anything.
Anyone in Bay Ridge who thinks these politicians are working for us doesn’t have a clue what’s going on. Since you are busy, decisions are being made without you!

January 5, 2022Senator Gounardes Thinks Now is the Time for Press Release Politics

Covid rates are soaring due to Omicron in NYC. Thankfully, it isn’t as severe as the Delta variant.
Good people in our neighborhood are waiting on lines for hours to check they don’t have Covid, so they don’t spread it around.
We would hope our elected leaders were helping them get more testing centers and home kits.
NO.
Today, Senator Andrew Gounardes wrote an opt-ed for the Daily News because he wants to fool you into thinking he has done something. (See here)
Andrew doesn’t get it – this neighborhood is SO tired of press release politics.
Gounardes thought it was cool to tweet this today:

The property tax report came out at the end of December, why hasn’t Gounardes, Savino, Frontus and Tanousis worked on a plan to help Bay Ridge residents? They just don’t care. w
For Andrew, tweeting about an article to other Democrats is the objective of his job as a senator.
Gounardes wrote about harrassment in government. Yet, Gounardes didn’t speak out immediately to Cuomo when he was accused by many women. Senator Gounardes could have called for Cuomo to be impeached. Gounardes was silent and failed to do anything because he doesn’t speak out against his party – even when they are wrong! Cuomo can run for office again, if he likes.
In 2019, Gounardes told us he had a bill about sexual harrassment – see here.
Gounardes bill was to give everyone sexual harassment training. Governor Cuomo had someone else do his online training for him. (See here) Gounardes bill was useless. When the information came out in the news that Cuomo didn’t do the sexual harrassment training, Andrew Gounardes didn’t say anything.
Senator Gounardes was involved in another bill about sexual harrassment in 2019 (see here), but that created a loophole (See here) Last year, the politicians said they fixed the loophole with another bill. We don’t keep going with writing bills about sexual harrassment in the government.
Gounardes was silent when a woman was sexually assaulted at the 95th Street train station in Brooklyn. The news pointed to bail reform and when I asked Andrew to change the bail reform bill, he refused and claimed the paper was incorrect about it being due to bail reform. It’s the same paper, Gounardes used for his article today – The Daily News (see article).
No elected representative knews about this attack because Andrew never mentioned it to them.
In October 2020, when Mario Pope attempted to rape a woman in Bay Ridge, helicopters flew over Bay Ridge for hours. (See here) Andrew Gouanrdes didn’t have the decency to tweet or warn the neighborhood that this man could be still in our neighborhood. Do you think Mrs. Gounardes wasn’t warned? When the man was freed without bail, Gounardes didn’t tell Bay Ridge. (Source) The Senator is an advocate for woman’s safety in our community.
Politicians don’t know that Andrew Gounardes didn’t give his community a heads up when someone dangerous was in the community.
This is another Gounardes bill that didn’t pass: See here
Why isn’t Andrew’s wife, family, staff or friends telling him to help his neighborhood?
Finally, Gounardes tweeted about Hochul talking about term limits for governors. We hope Andrew supports term limits for state senators.

There is a real disconnect between our State Senator, our neighborhood and the current conditions going on in this city. Press release politics needs to stop.
