It’s Martin Luther King Day (see Brooklyn events in person and online here).
Today is also Betty White’s 100th Birthday and people are participating in the #BettyWhiteChallege by donating $5 (or more) to an animal shelter.
Sean Casey Animal Shelter is a fantastic no-kill shelter in Brooklyn. (Donate here) It’s at 153 E 3rd Street in Brooklyn.
Sean is at the shelter – even on his days off. He keeps the place very clean and the animals are well-taken care of.

January 16, 2022Martin Luther King Day – Things to Do in Brooklyn – January 17, 2022

1) The Bay Ridge Peace Action Group is having a vigil on 86th Street and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn at 2:00 pm – ALL ARE WELCOME!

2) Brooklyn Children’s Museum has a program to honor MLK – $13 a ticket – Register here



3) Brooklyn Academy of Music tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. begins at 10:30 am. Info and watching online here. Children’s program – info here

4) For Families with children with special needs, Kings Bay Y is having a program from 12:00 – 2:00 pm. (See here)

a) Donate canned food to the Food Pantry at 6753 – 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. They are there from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.

January 16, 2022Bay Ridge Can You Help Elliott Make His Goal of 10,000 Coats?

Elliott Lamboy started Coats for the Cold in Brooklyn five years ago.
Lamboy travels throughout the community and collects used coats from people who are no longer using them.
Each year, he increased the goal so he can help more people stay warm!
Coats for the Cold has been collecting for 76 DAYS this season. The drive is for 100 days.
Coats for the Cold has collected 7,890 coats so far. They also collected 700 donations of warm gear – hats, gloves, scarves and sweaters.

There are 24 more days left to the drive.
Elliott is 2,110 coats short of the goal.

January 16, 2022Bishop Brennan Will Be at St. Pats on January 25th for Mass an Synod

On Tuesday, January 25th, Bishop Robert Brennan will be at St. Patrick’s Church on 95th Street and 4th Avenue at 7:00 pm for a mass, followed by a synod session.
Bishop Robert Brennan replaced Bishop DiMarzio as the Bishop of Brooklyn in the Fall.
Parishioners from St. Pats, St. Anselm, Our Lady of Angels, St. Ephrem, St. Bernadette and Our Lady of Guadalupe are invited to attend.

Saturday Night Live did a good job with a fun spoof on Eric Adams and his swagger.
In Brooklyn, we are used to Eric Adams, but a lot of people are seeing him for the first time. Comedian Chris Redd got the new mayor’s outfit down well.
Mayor Adams saw the skit and agreed that Redd looked great. He shared it on his Twitter account here.

January 16, 2022Buzz-A-Rama, The Last Slot Car Raceway in NY Closed After Being Open Five Decades

Buzz-A-Rama was a slot car racing place located at 69 Church Avenue in Kensington, Brooklyn. Although it had been around since 1965, kids loved operating the cars and racing.
Many people who went there as a kid, enjoyed bringing their children to Buzz-A-Rama as well. (See photos of the place here)

Last May, the owners of Buzz-A-Rama, Buzz Perri and his wife, Delores passed away. (See here)
There will be a final sale of old vintage items on Sunday, January 16th from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Cash only.
Glenn was there today and shared this video:
It’s surprising that not one paper has covered this story, especially since Buzzarama has been closed for awhile.
RIP Buzz, a Brooklyn Legend.
