March 7, 2022RIP Diane Hunt – Bay Ridge

Diane Hunt, a woman who loved Bay Ridge, died on February 17, 2022.

Hunt organized charity events for the St. Baldric Foundation.
DeeDee is known for being outspoken and truthful. She believed in respect for the police and common sense politics.
One thing people probably don’t know about Hunt is that her son, Jimmy was murdered by his friend in 1988. (See story) DeeDee belonged to a group, Parents for Murdered Children, who help keep murderers in jail and they fought against them receiving parole.
On 9/11/01, Diane worked as a secretary at Citibank in Manhattan. When the towers fell, a female officer assisted her. Diane found the officer and had an award made for her. (See story here)

Dee Dee loved flowers. She loved dogs and cats and always shared posts about missing animals.
.
On Saturday, March 26th there will be a memorial at Christ Church on 73st and Ridge Boulevard at 11:00 am.
Rest in peace with Jimmy. Prayers for her daughter and grandchildren.

March 6, 2022Coney Island Crochet Artist Created Ukraine’s Flag

Calvin Lee, a crochet artist in Brooklyn created a blue and yellow flag to show support to Ukraine and his Ukrainian neighbors in Coney Island. It’s such a kind thing to do!

See Calvin Lee’s video on TikTok here (you don’t need an account)

Lee crochets when he is traveling on the train. He created hundred of hats to give out in NYC to homeless people. I’m surprised there aren’t any stories about this thoughtful Brooklynite.

See more of Calvin Lee’s installations here.

March 6, 2022Brannan Put a Brush to Graffiti on Shore Road

Shore Road received a touch up today by Councilman Brannan. Hooray!
He wrote on social media that this graffiti bothered him. Why doesn’t all of the graffiti in the district bother him?

A Ridgite told me he doesn’t notice the graffiti. If you don’t notice it, you are sleeping. It’s all over and if you read it, some of it is hateful towards Asians.
Why hasn’t the graffiti been removed from Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights?
A Bay Ridge resident wrote this on Twitter:

This graffiti is in Dyker Heights. It was reported, but it was not removed. Children walk over it every day to get to school.

It’s an election year, so it might disappear soon.

March 6, 2022Noah Weston and Chris McCreight Battle for Democratic District Leader – District 46

Breaking News: Noah Weston and Chris McCreight will battle for Distict Leader of District 46.

Oh no Chris McCeight will be running for District Leader in our part of Bay Ridge. #Silent Chris would be the worst candidate for this position. He never speaks out against corruption.

If you are represented by Mathylde Frontus, you are in District 46.

The good part: Noah Weston lives in Bay Ridge. He supports transit riders, service workers and caregivers. Also Weston loves dogs and probably would have spoken up about this. (See here)

Chris McCreight supported Brannan and Gounardes (bail reform champion).

The bad: The word socialist is not on Noah Weston’ website, but it says it here. I asked Weston if he was a socialist and he didn’t reply. Noah Weston is further left than Councilman Justin Brannan.
Also, his social media accounts were all created recently. How strange! Weston worked on Khader El Yateem’s campaign, so it’s strange that he wouldn’t have a Twitter account until February 2022.
I have never seen Weston speak out against those holding office – maybe he has, but it’s not evident.
Noah was collecting signatures outside of Foodtown in Bay Ridge.

The District Leader position is an unpaid position. The District Leader is supposed to choose more candidate to run for empty offices.
Final thoughts: Noah can pet my dog. I wouldn’t vote for Noah because I don’t want the police to be defunded or any more bail reform that let’s people out of jail before they served their time. Even if Noah paid my property taxes, I wouldn’t vote for him.

March 6, 2022Where Are You Bay Ridge Community Council?

Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis was with the Staten Island Port Richmond Civic Association calling for the end to the bail law. Kathy Hochul refuses to do anything because she lives upstate and the changes to bail haven’t changed her community.
I stand with the Port Richmond Civic Association and surrounding communities who want public safety and are calling on @GovKathyHochul and the state legislature to fix their disastrous bail law. https://t.co/a586eEtWcO
— Office of Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (@RepMalliotakis) March 6, 2022
That made me question where is Bay Ridge’s civic association? The Bay Ridge Community Council website is gone – like intentionally removed – their domain is still active. (See here) Their FB page just has condolences, no meeting info.
Both Andrew Gounardes and Mathylde Frontus voted in favor of bail reform and both have refused to update the law.
While the law needed to be updated, so young people like, Kalief Browder didn’t get caught in the system, bail reform went too far.
There is a way to update the bail laws without letting repeat offenders abuse the system and people in NYC. Don’t let politicians or parties divide this community in that this is an either or situation. It’s possible to make a fair system.
Residents have asked The NCOs in Bay Ridge, “What can we do to help you?” The officers said they keep arresting the same people – several times a month due to bail reform.
The reality is most people in Bay Ridge do not know our leaders voted for this. Gounardes and Frontus are not telling Albany legislatures how unsafe NYC has become after this legislation.
.
Are you with them Bay Ridge Civic Association or do you just not exist any more?

March 6, 2022Early Morning Crash in Prospect Park And the Game of Politics With Iwen Chen

A BMW crashed into a war monument in Prospect Park West.
Two people were in the car. The woman was taken to the hospital and the man declined medical attention and left. He didn’t go to the hospital with his friend. (Story here)
Update: This afternoon I saw this tweet from Senate candidate Iwen Chen:

This Summer a child died on 12th Avenue, just blocks from Peter Abbate. Iwen didn’t say anything at the time.
Assemblyman Peter Abbate, who Iwen works for didn’t do anything! People in the neighborhood said that they reported this street. Abbate said he put a light there awhile back, but that must not be enough. THEN HE DIDN’T DO ANYTHING FOR THAT STREET. This is all Iwen knows – politicians ignoring problems like dangerous streets, so it may happen again.
Where is this “holistic approach” that Iwen is wrote about? It must mean politicians tweet messages of sympathy and then show a photo of themselves. Do not vote for this politician.
