Vito LaBella is Running for Senate – He Stood Up For Brooklyn Being Gerrymandered

Vito LaBella is running for Senate District 22.

I know Vito LaBella and his work in this community. We are not personal friends, but I can tell you that he is a good person, a hard worker, he’s very postive and he believes in every person being heard.

LaBella is the father of three teenagers and that’s a good thing for this community because Vito has a lot of people he has to answer to!

I was happy to hear that LaBella spoke out against gerrymandering in July.

Hear LaBella’s views on how districts can be divided fairly:

Years ago, the Democrats in this community spoke out against the Republicans gerrymandering this district.

It was surprising to Andrew Gounardes, Justin Brannan and Chris McCreight be silent while Brooklyn was super gerrymandered into districts that have nothing in common. Why didn’t the Democrats just draw rectangles around area like they do update?

I was equally surprised that District Leaders, like Joanne Seminara and Tori Kelly would remain silent when these district maps were published. Why are they District Leaders if they can’t speak up for Brooklyn?

Vito LaBella said, No matter who does gerrymandering – it’s wrong. That’s the type of leader Brooklyn needs!

When Andrew Gounardes saw the new district lines, he should have voted against them, if he believed in democracy.

We should have seen Gounardes writing articles for the newspaper speaking out against super gerrymandering this borough. If he believed gerrymandering with wrong when the Republicans did it, he should have taken the high road and made fair districts in Brooklyn.

Instead, Andrew was silent because he fears being voted out by his existing community. Leading from FEAR creates a closed district, like we have now. People in our community don’t have a voice in the state government because Gounardes believes his position is just to back what the Democratic Party wants and he doesn’t present out our community’s needs.

Vito LaBella has been an advocate for parents in this area for many years. He’s represented parents who felt like their voice wasn’t being heart. LaBella has build a community with the parents in Brooklyn and they fought together. They stood together and won because they were united.

Democrats in the area will say they made they gerrymandered the district to help create an Asian district. If that was true, then they wouldn’t have divided up Chinatown like they did. With Asian hate on the rise and Asians in Chinatown asking to keep their district together, the Democrats should have done everything they could to strengthen Chinatown. It was divided to keep the area weak.

Vito LaBella put together a list of his top issues. His choice of issues shows he knows Brooklyn and is ready to represent our area!

Councilwoman Inna Vernikov Met with Trump

Councilwoman Inna Vernikov, who represents the 48th District in Brooklyn was in Florida and was invited to meet with former President Donald Trump. Councilwoman Vernikov represents Brooklynites in Midwood, Brighton Beach and Sheepshead Bay.

Vernikov is a Trump supporter and was excited to meet Trump. She said in a video that she received an e-mail inviting her to meet Trump. She said she was going to thank him for what he did for the United States, our economy, for world peace and for the state of Israel.

This Ukrainian-American politician is doing a good job representing her community.

Why Trucks Aren’t Allowed on the Belt Parkway…

I saw the video below and thought it was worth sharing!

When someone says they want to replace the overpasses because they are old…..the truth is trucks don’t fit under them and they are advocating for businesses or companies that need to do carting. Last year there was a proposal like this on the table, but it was withdrawn.

Click on the video below to see this – the person filming knew what was going to happen, that’s why they filmed.

Crazy Brainy Bin Store is Coming to Bay Ridge

Crazy Brainy Bin Store is coming to 8418 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge.

The store awning says they sells returns from Amazon, Target, Walmart and Ebay.

We’ve seen other discount bin stores like this out-of-state. They sell electronics, household items, furniture, clothing, bedding and toys.

On the window of Crazy Brainy is a long yellow sticker with the days and prices:

Friday: $10

Saturday $8

Sunday $6

Monday $5

Tuesday $4

Wednesday $3

Restock on Thursday

I’m surprised the Bay Ridge BID didn’t mention this new type of store opening on the Avenue. 5th Avenue could use this new energy!

Crazy Brainy was formed in February and they use an address on 60th Street and 17th Avenue. (See here)

What was in this spot before? A Beauty Supply store used to be here.

Scooters Are Getting Regulated Now

Breaking News…

In 2020, Councilman Justin Brannan and other city council representatives voted for Ebikes and scooters to be legal in NYC.(See here) Brannan and the other politicians didn’t anticipate what could go wrong.

That year, the pols were busy defunding the police and throwing ebikes and scooters into the NYC’s pandemic streets.

Of course other vehicle owners in Brooklyn thought this included all vehicles and started zipping around the neighborhood on motorbikes.

When people started dying from being hit by these vehicles, Councilman Brannan and the other Council representatives did not do anything. (See here and here)

When a 43-year-old Brooklyn mother, Xing Chun Rong, died earlier this month from being hit by an ebike, we expected to see Brannan and Senator Gounardes take action, but both failed this community. (Info here)

But the NYPD have!

Starting June 1, 2022, scooters and ebikes may not be operated unless they display the manufacturer’s label on the frame permanently.

The label must be displayed in a prominent location and include pertinent information to determine the intended classification.

This is a step in the right direction…..but ultimately the scooters and e-bikes are going to need to have license plates because some are used in crimes and criminals are getting away without a trace.

In Bay Ridge, a few package thieves ride on scooters as well.
